Good for You. I too would like to do stuff like that but unfortunately the need to pay the mortgage and supply the world with Kiwifruit and avocados allows only a few hours a month just to keep familiar with Bryce let alone anything else. Enjoy your learning.

Cheers & Good Luck

great..maybe you can tell me what 'chamfer' means..;) I've supported people with Autocad on their systems, going back a coupla decades. At the time (Version about 2.47..yeah..that long ago..;) it needed every bit of resources that Dos 3 could provide..;)

I had Autodesk somewhere (probably in storage..;),

Your modeling is going to get way better, so say hi to us as you breeze by..;) have fun..

The first CAD proggy I used at work was AutoCad 1.5! At Uni we used McAuto (McDonnelDouglas Automated drafting system).

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

Good luck. I know you might be able to use some of your ideas for renders to I knwo ther eis one of us Brycers that use it for archtecture.

Have fun!
How long is the course for?

I use Bryce for architecture. Don't know anything about autocad. I just use Wings Models.

Autocad, the (almost) original Computer Aided Design program (I think that's what it stands for..;) has been around at least since the mid-80's. Last version I saw was 14.

A lot of 3d modeling programs take a page or 2 from autocad, and a lot of the commands you use owe their parentage to that. It's mainly used for making blueprints, walkthroughs, etc., or was back in the day. Mike and Sharon Custer of Sam's 3d use it to make their stuff.

Very cool, Fran.  I know my son would approve.  He posted an autocad image here a while back.

So you're going straight from banging your head against the wall to learning how to do things properly? Isn't that like...er.....cheating?

Good for you Fran. 8D

I've always been of the opinion that if you stop learning you start dying so go live a little and have lots of fun while you're at it.

A fillet is when you cut a radius on an edge.

A chamfer is when you cut a flat angle on an edge.

Wheeee!  Wow, so many replies.

The course is 52 weeks maximum, but people do it at their own speed so hopefully less than that.

I hope I'll still have some free time for making things in Wings, and that I don't get too confused between AutoCAD and Wings manouvers - which is always possible as I was once falling asleep in my chair and just caught myself thinking about middle mouse clicking to rotate the TV screen a little!  Lol!

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes... isn't this a nice place?

Sorry it took so long in replying - my laptop has had the motherboard replaced (again!) on Tuesday and then it died again on Thursday - a problem with seating one of the 4ram's - nice people replaced them with 2 new single gig rams - so now I have room for two new 1 gig rams if I want to upgrade - and all it cost me was the price of diesel to get there.

Price is a bit high but the engineer said wait a while as it's coming down soon.  Nice people.

Well.... yeah.

But hey, this course isn't going to cost me anything and as it's residential will probably save me money - certainly in food costs.

I only just recently even found out I was eligible for this course, because of health problems with spine, knees and shoulders I get onto it under the disabilities scheme - these are not severe enough to stop me walking and moving about normally - just if I do a job with constant standing, heavy lifting or repeated climbing of stairs - mostly discovered in my last full time job when I was working at the prison - a very boring job!

It was pure chance I found out about it and really thanks to the prison - since without that job I'd never have put restrictions on my details when applying for jobseekers, never had discovered I was eligible for contribution based jobseekers allowance nor have found out about these DEA courses, so much though I really got to hate working at the prison, I guess I should be thankful for it.

Ain't life odd?

Oh me too.  I guess that's why I like doing tutorials so much - good ones anyway.

And I intend to have a lot of fun - the college sounds like a great community.  They even planned to have some art clubs/groups thingies later in the year - with trips out to paint - I'd love to do those.  They are spare time hobbies that the college organises.

Oh well... if you think you're getting rid of me that easily, you've got another think coming!

Lol!

I might be around a bit less but I ain't a leavin'!

Besides, it hasn't started yet - I'm still waiting to hear of my start date - could be a couple of months yet.

Anyway, I like Wings, I ain't a stoppin' that!

Saw that model skiwillgee - it's gonna take me some time to produce anything that good in AutoCAD.  Nice to know it can render too - even if not brilliantly.

Thanks to all for their good wishes.  (makes me feel all warm and cosy)  Aww... you guys!
