We are nearly ready to open just a little testing to be done :o) But you can sign up early for subscriptions that won't start till we actually open, details on the front page, Steve

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 6:55 AM

I signed up early. But I have a few concerns I posted on your forum. Not major...just some questions:-)

Dizzie ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 7:19 AM

Nikitacreed..I have replied to your questions at our private forum a few minutes ago..check the info out! :o) Dizzie..I don't think so..this is mostly a form to be notified in time..I'll check with allen myself and reply here as soon as I have a solid answer to that one! :o)

Woohoo! I signed up! And I'm not worried about cancelling my membership because Steve has always put out high quality stuff and I don't really expect that to change... Yipee!

Dizzie ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 8:11 AM

<<<<There will be a 24 hour refund window if you decide you do not want to be a member, this is protect us from users subscribing downloading a lot of content and then canceling it.>>>> an unscurpulous person can do alot of downloading in 24 hrs....wasn't there discussion about having a free section of limited downloads??? the quality is such that I would think the free stuff would give a person a good idea if they want to join beforehand and a 24 hr refund time wouldn't be neccessary since they are getting to try the free stuff....Just my half penny...:>) but I had to mention it cause I saw visions of peeps DLing like crazy....LOL

ookami ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 8:15 AM

That's right Dizzie... probably the same people who contributed to the closing of Poserworld because of their use of download accelerators.

Well..allen got here faster than me as soon as he forwarded the reply to my questions! :o) However...I think that Free section of Poserworld and Fairywoods won't need to be subscribed to access, although they'll update at same intervals with the subscription area. Please clarify if this IS so Allen to avoid further misunderstandings! :o) Besides..the new Free Poserworld and Fairywoods sites have nothing in common with the huge monsters you used to know so well(grin)..they will contain only 6 items per site the most on each update..new stuff as well as rotation of old popular models. BUT at the subscription area only new models will be posted as many as possible each time, they won't rotate but keep pilling up same as they used to do at the old sites! Hope this clarifies a few more question that might be asked! :o)

Allen..we must have posted at the same time! LOL! Since I do my best to keep this thread as short as possible (I'd dread to keep on it for a full week same as the last one!) I would also like to add some more important info that a few might have missed from previous threads and updates! ALL models & textures on the subscription area will be royalty free for any kind of commercial work for anybody who is a valid member. No more requests for use. However, this will not apply on the free sections..there, the usual rules of permission prior to any commercial use still stand as the unwritten rule of freebies requires! :o)

Rena, I think they meant that if you look at and dl the free stuff, then you can get a good idea of what quality the subscribed things will be. That way, you can NOT have the 24hr give back on the subscription. They will already have been able to make up their minds from whether they like the free stuff or not--and when they subscribe, that's it. (Hope this is what you REALLY meant Dizzie??) And may I say, YAHOO--glad to see you're close to opening.

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 9:57 AM

I got your reply and also replied again. Thank you for clearing that up. As long as people have a free section where they can get an idea of what they can get in the subscription section....then there really is no need for that 24 hour window. People will take advantage of it. My concerns were based on the fact that I had never really seen PoserWorld, so I had know way of knowing what I was supposed to be paying for. Now that I know there will be a free section to look at...I can decide whether or not I want to subscribe. Therefore...I wouldn't need a window to cancel my subscription. I really just think the 24 hour window is a bad idea. I liked to think people more honest....but lately I am being disappointed. :-

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 11:43 AM

Ok, you say pre-paid customers get in early, but all I see is a form that allows you to be notified. Filled it in and went to the forum and it asked for name and password. Also just an aside, If I already own Poserworld CD's do I get any kind of a break here? Otherwise it's like Catharina's site, paid, got in, already owned everthing there except the digital woman and the grey texture map....lol Course...the digital woman is worth the $5, just was a bit of a shock. I know that someone had asked about this before and you guys/gals said you were considering it but I haven't seen anything else mentioned. Nice to see you back, Marque

There was mention of former contributers? I had my Wizard coat remap up on Poser World (really proud of that honor!) Could you send me details regarding this? Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

JeffH ( ) posted Thu, 19 April 2001 at 7:05 PM

I have a question. Is it only Rena's textures for Steve's creations on the new site? I remember the old site had characters created with other people's props etc. Putting those behind a password/fee related site would create problems. -Jeff

JeffH..if there's ever been one concerned about proper full credit and usage of other people's work that's definately me! :o) Yes..old and new characters WILL be available..but not on the subscription section..but to the free PW and FW sites (though minimized to 6 downloads per update) which will still be accessible to anybody same as it used to be ..100% FREE! :o) I have revised the content of my page so you can enjoy large previews only if you really wish to, plus all readme me files of zips have been altered including full details of the credits required for each one of those free downloads, plus URLs wherever necessary! And no..you won't have anymore to go over at PW and grab the clothing..that will be included along in the zip of free stuff as long as it was created from steve! :o) I hope this helps to resolve this issue...

Steve and Rena : This is great news indeed. I really hope it works out for you, so you wont be bothered with running costs any more and concentrate on what you do best : ART. One minor suggestion though (which is targeted to Allen I guess :) Now that you have implemented your solution to stop massive downloads, can you please loose the right-click blocking ? Its really annoying if you want to save the thumbnail along with the .zip file (for catalog purposes :) and you can always find a way to get the exact location of each thumb by viewing the HTML code and save it anyway, so why the hassle ? Jon Tsagaris (Who is planning a trip to the bank as soon as he get his monthly paycheck to issue a check, so count me in :) PS Rena: Isnt it a strange coincidence that we spoke about this just yesterday ?

jonfe ( ) posted Fri, 20 April 2001 at 5:33 AM

One more thing Allen: Would you happen to know why whenever I browse through PoserWorld hosted sites (FairyWoods, PropsGuild etc.) the CPU utilization for my browser (mainly NS) jumps through the roof (over 90%) and my PC starts crawling like a snake ? I know it has nothing to do with the recent additions to prevent massive D/L (it's been happening ever since FW was added to PW) and it's not that severe with I.E. but I was just wondering... Thanks Jon

gryffnn ( ) posted Fri, 20 April 2001 at 7:33 AM

I agree that the 24-hour cancellation is probably a dangerous loophole that might cause you grief. However, hope you will post thumbnails and a bit of text description in the free section of what's currently available in the subscription section to help potential subscribers make an informed decision.

Jon Tsagaris..indeed it is! :o) GRYFFNN...what you said has already been considered. On both free section the link to the Subscription area leads to just a bunch of item previews of the models added on the specific update..so those we just want to take a sneak peek will be able to do so! :o) Somehow I get the feeling that the FREE section of PW and FW links to update your bookmarks.. will be announced to this forum right within this weekend's time! Marque, I think a membership for $5 is not to much, you downloaded 3 new textures sets that are exclusive in the member area and normal cost more that $20. I think it is not bad. ]For user that are new and never purchased my stuff from the store a membership for $5 with 14 best texture sets for download is not to much asked, and you all know how much work and time cost it to create new stuff. Wish you a great day Catharina
