Subject: Is there an easy way to strip out morphs from Face expressions

rreynolds ( ) posted Fri, 18 August 2006 at 10:14 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 4:17 AM

I've often run across Face files that have expressions I'd like to use, but the face files include character morph information such that it changes the character I want to use the expression on.

Has anybody developed a Face or Pose file that will zero out all the character dials without changing the expression dials?

Make one yourself! Load your character, make sure all morph channels in the head are zero, go to the Face pallet, click on the "+" to save a face, then click "Select Subset", deselect the expression channels, save it. The file should now contain data to zero all morph channels in the head except the expression channels.

Don't just use the "expression" dials. If you make zeroing poses with the above hieirachy editor method, you might want to also uncheck the speech morphs (Mouth O, etc) since expression makers like me use them to greatly increase the range of expressions possible on a figure. Some people also use face-shaping morphs like the eye/forehead/cheek crease dials as part of an expression. If you have any of my products, some (like Aiko3XprssnMagic) include poses that zero the settings on all the head dials except for the expression morphs. V3EyesMagic (PC or Mac) in the store here has a pose that zeros the settings on the 70 face shaping morphs included in V3's head morph pack, without changing any settings on either the expression morphs or those that shape/reposition V3's eyes. I'm using Poser 5 and there's no "+" in the Face Room.  I did try "Apply to Figure" in the Face Room. There weren't any options there to go to the hierarchy editor. Doing this turned Victoria 2 into the character in the image, using the default face that was there.  That was interesting though the neck is broken and dials won't fix it. I like the result and guess that the neck would have to be fixed in a modeling application.

I opened the hierarchy window and clicked on Show Parameters, but there are no check boxes to turn off some head features.

Do I need P6 to get the window in your screenshot? Is there something else I need to open. These are features I haven't played with, so I'm rather lost.

The face room is not set up for the non-Poser figures, like DAZ's Victoria, Michael, etc. So the break at the neck is probably due to that incompatibility. Sounds like you're going to the main Hierarchy editor window. Go to the face/expression library (not the pose library) and click the plus sign to add a pose. In the dialog that pops up, click the Select Subset button. Any loaded morphs will appear under Head, with the checkboxes - Elisa/gryffnn

"I'm using Poser 5 and there's no "+" in the Face Room." I meant the "Face" pallet not the "Face Room", but I forgot that P5 renamed the "Face" pallet to the "Expression" pallet (I still mostly use Poser 4).
