Subject: Conforming Clothing To Morphed Figures

I'm having trouble in Poser 5 and 6 conforming clothing to morphed figures -- specifically, standard and purchased costumes to morphed superhero bodies. Somehow I think I'm missing something basic here. Any help? Thanks Skeet Shooter

If the clothing does not have the same morphs built in, then you'll get poke through from the figure as it won't be able to match what's underneath.

In the same vein, if the morphed figures used scaling in any way, this will play havoc with conforming clothing unless you make sure to scale it appropriately (and a few more steps I don't remember to make certain things like shoes work properly)

There are programs like The Tailor that can help transfer morphs from body to clothing, never used any of those, I just do the morphs myself in max and go from there. You can also adjust with magnets in Poser, or convert to dynamic clothing and run a sim and get decent results from that.

Thanks, Realmling, for the quick response. I'm all-Mac, all the time, so The Tailor and at least one other option won't work for me. I use Poser in conjunction with Toon Boom Studio, Photoshop and Final Cut Pro to create layered, animated shorts, so the clothing has to move accurately with the figure in the animations taken directly from Poser. I had not used heavily morphed Poser figures until this project (I'm working on a superhero cartoon). I'll try to use the magnets, but I'm open to any further thoughts that you or others might have. Cheers! SS

That was my bane before I got Wardrobe Wizard.

Conforming clothes are made to fit the figure in it's default state out of the "box' so to speak.

It's hard to fit around poses where the body is not in a near vertical upright position, especially skirts and dresses.  I was so frustrated that I couldn't have my figures sitting down or in poses where a leg was off centre.

I am on a PC and tried The Tailor but had limited success with it.  And magnets are impossible for me for some reason.

A program was released last year called Wardrobe Wizard that will allow you to put clothing on a figure that Wardrobe Wizard supports, analyze it, and then fit that analyzed clothing to either the same figure with morphs added to it, or to any other figure that Wardrobe Wizard supports.

If you can afford to buy it, it's a real money saver in the end. Most of your figures will be able to share one wardrobe.

For example, there is a really great dress for MayaDoll, which I don't have. The dress is free but it would be a pain for me to try and scale it up and use magnets or The Tailor to try and fit it to another figure.  Someone else who has both MayaDoll and Wardrobe Wizard is going to analyze the dress for me and send me the .dat file containing the information (not the doll or the dress files), and so long as I have the .dat file and the dress, I can fit that dress to any of the figures that Wardrobe Wizard supports, without having to own MayaDoll.

Just wondering if you could use dynamic clothing instead?  I find dynamic clothing
move much more naturally in an animation.  And there is no problem with morphs
using dynamic clothing as it molds to the figure so the same clothing item can
fit on lots of different figures.

Thanks Acadia and dbowers. I have been tinkering around with the dynamic clothing and had the sense that it held some promise, but hadn't gone too far with it because most of the clothing I have is conforming. Acadia, I just checked out Wardrobe Wizard and since it is both Mac and PC I will purchase it shortly -- it also supports the characters I'm using. Whew!!!! I have a 6-week deadline, so spending a little money for the chance to save time and improve the fit is well worth it. I'll let you know of the results. SS

You can convert a conforming piece to dynamic. Export out an obj with parts welded and not as a morph target and re-import into poser for your prop. (make sure you have all import options unchecked)

Then you can parent it and get your cloth sim set up and you should be good to go.

Thanks again, Realmling. Also, I bought Wardrobe Wizard and it works really well; i.e., it works as close to perfectly as anything else in Poser. Kudos to PhilC, its author. I easily managed to get a string bikini well fitted onto The Freak (not that I do that sort of thing regularly, but it was an interesting image) to test its limits. It has very nice "auto-adjust" functions. He also fit nicely into a James pair of pants, polo shirt and shoes. I will also try converting conforming to dynamic clothing per your instructions, since even in this cartoon I'm working on I need some of the fit and flow associated with dynamic clothes. SS
