Looks like human actors/actress will need to find a new job, their days are numbered. Why use any human actors/actress when you can make 3D characters look like that! Think about it, no bad shoots, they do what you tell them to do. Not asking for a million dollars a shoot. Wow, I so want to see this movie.
Finally, release from the Hollywood Bull-Shit! Some of the stupidest, dumbest, worst garbage films have been coming out of Hollywood in recent years. Finally, films made outside the Hollywood mentality, in places like Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand... Matrix was made in Australia, Hawaii now is doing State-Of-The Art Movies, and the new "Hobbitt and Trilogy" EPIC is being made in New Zealand! Finally, the Pacific Age of Movies has arrived made by people with creativity and brains, not the mindless crap out of tintsel-town...
Hey Fox , I see you share my frustration with what has been coming out of Hollywood!!! I wonder whats going to happen when they run out of Old cartoons and TV series to remake into bad movies( flintstones, rocky & bullwinkle arrgghhh!!) and they realize that intelligent adults are tired of silly "Something About Mary" Clones thats the beauty of CG , its giving independent creative thinkers the power to explore their creative vision in a Big way!! this is a very exiting time to be into 3D computer graphics. Mocap
CG will expand opportunities for good actors, not reduce them. If you've ever tried to record your own dialogue for an animation you begin to appreciate what serious talent it takes to bring a character to life! We might not understand what it takes, but we all know it when we see it, and when we don't see it. What CG means is that gifted voice actors who don't fit the physical or age requirements of a role will be able to give voice and provide mocap of all those subtle bits of business that make up a truely professional, satisfying performance.
Just think of what virtual actors can do for the big screen. You can now motion caputure the best martial artists and dancers in the world. Dupliate an entire range of expressions. Not to mention the voice artists. The shear collaboration of talent that now is used is fantastic. Allowing realistic mindblowing effects, or subtle dramatic scenes.
I think it will diversify movies. It may also cut down on the ludicrous $20 million salaries that some of the top hacks are getting. It won't replace actors, but it will allow a wider range of possibilities of roles within a movie, and hopefully a wider range of movies as well. Boy, the work is gorgeous! I hope the females are equally realistic, not just breasts and legs.
The movie is being made in a mocap studio on the slopes of Diamond Head- its a really big facility dedicated just for this movie. Down by the Honolulu waterfront they have an office building with about 200 technicians from Japan, U.S. and Europe using SGI Octane's to fine tune every single scene detail, down to the nut and bolt... This is only the beginning folks. These people are advancing this technology for a whole series of new movies that would never have been possible before. Hollywood is going to get their butt kicked big-time. The reason why Lucas Films and Pixar do the fantastic work they do is because they are in Northern California. The Hollywood Mentality is so totally corrupt and stupid- I advise anyone- get the Hell Away From There. Join up with these new independent companies - they are the Wave of the Future, and it is going to be BIG! Move to Hawaii, Australia or New Zealand if you really want to be on the ground floor of 2001st Century Movie-Making...
For Final Fantasy, the digital backlot is not where you would expect it to be, in Hollywood - but rather it is located in tropical Hawaii. Next to the beautiful Pacific Ocean, Square has selected Harbor Court in downtown Honolulu as the home to more than 150 computer graphic artist from all over the world, including Hollywood, Tokyo and Europe. There, surrounded by state-of-the-art computers and software programs, artists are able to transform their vision into reality set on a computer screen... It is in this environment where Square is producing Final Fantasy as a successful and entertaining film with the leading computer graphic technology. We hope that the audience will enjoy their interactive journey through an epic tale of adventure...

Definately worth clicking on the Hi-REZ button to get the larger images. Should give everyone a target of realism to aim for. I like the care they took to make them look like "real" people, not just handsome and beautiful Hollywood types... I read that they used tons of high-rez photos of real people and composited them into specific characters, taking pieces from different photos. The production staff keep the photo albums close-at-hand as references. Like any good animation company, I think they use the hi-rez stuff only for close-ups, and have lower-rez versions for long shots, etc...
