Subject: Posing and dressing in Daz

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 26 August 2006 at 11:21 AM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 11:40 AM

I need to redo a pose, dress, hair etc etc that I previously had for Vicki.

Lost everything that might have had the links for the location of the previous pose, dress, hair etc from the last time I did the scene.  (Due to a total re-format of the hard drive)

So... I have Vicki, I have the clothes and hair I want to use, but it was such an incredibly long time ago that I first created this scene that I can't remember what I did or how I did it.

(I'd like to be able to do the same with Mike.)

Can someone run me through the procedure?  (before Wednesday next as I leave for college about then, and after that I'll be offline)

Please, please, please can someone help me?

Ok, here's a quick and simple step-by-step.

  1. Load base figure (in this case, V3), by double clicking on her in the figure library.
  2. Load clothing for base figure, by finding the clothing in the library, and double clicking to load it.
  3. Making sure it's selected in the scene palette, select the Parameters palette, and scroll down until you see a selection that says "Fit To".  If it is not already fit to V3, using the drop-down menu, select V3.
  4. Locate hair (it is usually placed in the hair directory, but some creators make it a full conforming figure rather than a parented prop), and load it by double clicking on it to load it.  If it is a conforming figure, make sure it is "Fit To" V3 in the same way we did it in number 3.

As for posing....well, everyone has their own way of doing things.  I personally prefer to utilize the Power Pose plugin (If you have it, it's the button that looks like a bone next to the Spot Render tool).  What you do is select the Power Pose tool, then, select the body part, and click, drag, etc.  However, you can use the parameter dials instead.  What you would do is start in your Scene palette, and select the body part you want to move first, and then move over to the Parameters palette and move the dials in whichever direction you want.

Hope that helps!

Trouble is I get as far as this point:

Quote - 1. Load base figure (in this case, V3), by double clicking on her in the figure library.

  1. Load clothing for base figure, by finding the clothing in the library, and double clicking to load it.

and the clothing doesn't show up, and nothing I do will make it show up.

Now I have a dim memory about V2 to V3... or was it the other way about?  but I don't know what that file looks like - the .exe file to install it again, I mean.  Since I think - not sure but I think the "Sentinels of Sirius" is for the V2 body?  Am I right about that?   or is that a Poser only thing?  That "Sentinels of Sirius" being the clothing I want to use.

Do you have a link to where you got the "Sentinels of Sirius"?  I'd like to see whether or not it's a clothing figure for V3, or maybe if it's just a MAT pose.  So long as it's not dynamic, or using shader nodes, it should work in DAZ|Studio.

Ok, never mind, I found it. Sentinels of Siruius is a set of Textures for The Sci-Fi suits for Michael and Victoria ;)

Quote - Features- 1 Texture Map for the Droid

  • 1 Texture map for the Sci-Fi Suit for Victoria
  • 1 Texture map for the Sci-Fi Suit 1 for Michael
  • 1 Texture Map for the Sci-Fi Suit 2 for Michael
  • 4 Mat Pose Files for Quick Wardrobe Changes

The reason you can't see it is because the figure it effects isn't loaded ;)

Lol, well it would help if you'd - or anyone else who might be able to help me out here - see what you make of this.

Now I've installed about 12 exe files and the only suit that was in figures and not mats is this one on V3 here. (see image above) As you can see although I've tried the "fit to" parameter I still can't get it to fit.

Mind you, at least it actually turns up.

But there's no point trying the mat I want (Sentinels of Sirius) until I can get this to fit - help?

That's because the bodysuit is for V2.  Try using the V3 to V2 figure for your character, and it should fit ;)

That's what I said before (sorry, I thought we'd dismissed that notion) - but where do I find the exe file for that to install it?  I don't know what it's called and although I tried searching on Daz for V3 to V2 and visa versa - nothing came up - so how can I find the file?

It should be in your base V3 installer.  It's included with the base figure.

I can't find it - is there maybe some content I should have installed - but didn't?  The fairy forest is there (that I never use) so that installed okay.  But only Victoria 3 RR LE, nothing else at all in there... actually not even M3 and I thought I'd installed him...

I'm stuck.

It's getting better... the V3 to V2 seems to have worked - thanks for that.  But I still seem to have some broken seams - i.e. bits where the suit doen;t quite fit still - I tried scale, ztrans and stuff like that but it doesn't work.  any ideas?

Do you have the V3 morphs?  You could make her a bit skinnier with those in a slight dial spin.  Other than that, which figure were you trying to scale, the bodysuit, or V3?  You may be able to get away with hiding those bodyparts (Go to the scene palette, and open the whole body tree.  Click on the Eye icon to the right of each part you want to hide, and they'll disappear ;) )

Um... I've got the V3 morphs, but I don't know which morph does what.

I tried the body hiding - which worked - up to a point - that point is demonstrated in the image above.

Either I get flesh showing - or no wrist.

Oh and I tried scaling etc both the suit and the figure.

Ok, I just had this whole thing written out, when I realized that the morphs don't work on the V3 to V2 figure :(  Damn.
Hmmm....have you tried scaling the individual body part?  For instance, just the forearm or just the upper arm/shoulder?  Also, do you have D-Form?  You could always use that as a last resort ;)

Only thing I haven't tried is D-form - I've hidden the chest, shoulder and upper arm it's just the forearm that's not right.

I have the D-form plugin... only I have 3 or more D-Form exe files - how can I tell which is the latest?

Since I can't find it in Daz Studio - odd that though, I was sure I'd already installed that at least once.

is D-Form maybe hidden somewhere obscure inside Studio?

You can either right click on the file, select properties, and see when it was "created", or, to make doubly sure, you can reset the download in your account at DAZ, and make absolute sure you've got the latest version.

I think I may have to do a reset - they all look the same to me.

I may get away without having to use it though - which is good - as I haven't a clue how to use it.

I do have another question though - is there any way to change the ugly eyebrows and lips she has at present?

Oh - and the good eyebrows have to show up in Bryce - pretty please?

Yup!  Since it's the V3 map, you can use any V3 texture on her ;)  If you need any, just search the Poser or DAZ|Studio freestuff for them, and you'll find 'em.  I've recently approved quite a few really nice ones for Poser ;)

Thanks, I'm half looking forward to it and half nervous.  Good luck to you too, for winter or spring.

I'm in Reading now, nice and quiet - Ian's at work, Lol!

I was just thinking... I dimly remember choosing hazel eyes from a list of various things - I remember lots of choices of eyes, now I don't see these choices in my content in DazStudio, so either I'm not looking in the right place (prefectly possible) or I just haven't installed it yet - actually, considering that I'm starting again with D|S that last is more likely.

I had an idea it might be "V3/M3 Head & Body Morphs" but I've looked all through there and those just change the shape of eyes, mouths etc or give you an alien head, asian, paler, young, older, etc etc shaped head.

So do you have any idea what all those eyes might be called?
