Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.
Ahh yes! templargfx the guru of making cars shine! He has a great freebie here for car materials.
You might find some more links in this thread:

If some renderosity links don't work, tag the numbers at the end of the link to this one and it will work:

Quote - There was a thread here (I think) about how to accomplish this, but I can't seem to locate it anywhere.
The material setting presented was this, but the reflect node plugs into something off screen.
When rendered (in P6), most of thematerial is reflection white.
Has anyone found an alternate mat settng, or can locate the original thread?
Kind of looks like the node offscreen is some sort of image map, hence the image in the
PoserSurface node preview window. I guess he was trying to create some sort of false
reflection.
Yeah MungoPark beat me to producing the link - took me a while to find it in my bazillion bookmarks.
The node that isn't shown is just a photo of some buildings with a lot of open ground and sky.
The way the reflect node works, is that it will render a reflection of whatever is in your scene, but if the reflection ray travels off into infinity, it plugs in a value from the background attribute. If you leave that white and don't connect it to anything, then it returns white, which is not what you want.
So plug in a photo of distant trees or buildings or whatever. Any nearby objects in the scene (like a hot chick) will show up in the paint. Otherwise it will reflect an imaginary surrounding from the photo.
Of course the best thing to do is really put objects all around the car.
When carmakers produce an advertisement, they usually set the car up in a studio with carefully placed white and black objects in the area. This works in Poser too, although it takes a while to set up. But these objects will really highlight the contours of the car.
Just put black in the reflection node background color. Then place a big white rectangle overhead, and maybe some white spheres and such in different places.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Templar's link to his car material no longer works, and I didn't see his material collection in the freestuff archive anywhere.
I came up with a simpler one that renders muc faster, but I'd ;ike to compare appearances to them to see if his are worth the additional render time.

I got hold of templargfx (John), and the reason his car mats are absent in free stuff is because he lost his hosting space. I've offered to host them for him and they should be back in free stuff once he uploads them there again. In the meantime anyone who wants them can get them directly from the above link."It is good to see ourselves as

are, especially the evil side of us.
