**thanks to everyone who answered my previous posts.  Karin is a WIP - lots of texture work still to be done.  I've modified the face/body morphs to my liking and taking on board suggestions from other posters.  One change - I've replaced the photographed eyebrows with transmaps - I don't usually use transmapped brows but these seem OK.  Thanks again for the help. **

I do have one question - how do I apply separate INJ/REM to head and body?  I've got both DAZ Injection Pose Builder 1.1 and 1.5 and get in a complete knot!  doh!

Hi Sheila,

What are the camera settings you used for the face shot?  The reason I ask, is that it appears the Karin's head is pinched at the top, and fattened towards the jaw.  For portoraits, I use a focal length of 100mm.  I can't remember which tutorial it was, but it is the setting professional photographers use for head shots.  Attached are 2 pics.  The first is with Poser's default focal length of 25.4 mm.  Notice the distortion of Laura's head.  The second pic is with a focal length of 100mm.  It looks way much better.  I hope this helps. -Starkdog

Oops,

I forgot to add that I really like the way your texture is progressing.  I like the idea of trans-mapped eyelashes and eyebrows, as they can be tinted to match hair color via material settings.  The link below takes you to a tutorial on RuntimeDNA for Injection Magic.  I'm sure that if you ask nicely, that Acadia has about 100 links to tutorials on IPB and Injection magic.  :b_tonguewink:  -Starkdog

**thanx Starkdog; I used just the face camera at default.  I've also reduced the hairline a little to take down the "domed head" look - that's probably why she appears "flattened".  Thanks ever so for the link, though whether Injection Magic will work I don't know - I have it but never used it. **

The Face Camera at default is too close for comfort (as are all the cameras at default, by the way). You are definitely getting some distortion of the proportions of the face as a result. Take the camera out to 70-100mm, which is the standard setting for a portrait shot, and then "step back" until you can see her face completely. You'll see the difference immediately. The Hand cameras are also at closeup distances and should be reset to around 100mm, though their placement doesn't create the visual jar that the Face Camera does. Most of the rest of the cameras should be at 55mm or "backed off" too. To understand the problem, imagine getting close enough to someone, with a camera mounted with a standard 55mm lens, that their face would fill the screen. If they exhaled, your lens would fog.

Probably what made the lips look too full... :)

**adjusted camera focus as suggested - this may (!) help give an idea of where I'm up to so far.  So much to do .............. lol**

Thanx so much for the help - it's much appreciated :smile)

Hi Sheila,

I really like the way this texture is evolving.  I also really love the high cheek bones and jawl-line on Karin, as I too, have high cheek bones- check out my avatar.   I can't tell from the body pic, but have you done any body morphs yet?  Keep up the awesome work. -Starkdog

Hi Starkdog, glad u like Karin's evolution!  I've done nothing more with the tex yet, am currently trying to get morphs as I want them, and as good as possible.  With the body - I've just adjusted the breast sizing somewhat and added some tone to the midsection - also put the feet in a more natural position, lol.  And thanks ever for that link to Injection Magic tutorial - even a divvy like me could follow it!

great improvements!  i especially like the eyebrows.  i've been wondering why most texture makers don't do that- it would make changing hair color so much easier.   i really love the pale texture of the face.  the forehead does seem a bit short to me ( i believe that in a perfectly straight on head shot, the eyes should fall in the middle), but that's just me.

very nice work!

Sheila,

I really do like the way Karin evolved.  Here is a pic of her contemplating on what to fix for dinner.  The softness of her texture combined with IBL lighting is incredible.  Thanks once again, -Starkdog.

That's a great looking character!  Her bone structure looks of German ancestry, so I'd go with a light skin colouring.

I just found out a little while ago about the camera focal length. I had been using them at default and for some reason one day I was working with a figure in face view and her head looked oddly shaped. I hadn't noticed it before so I asked about it here and sure enough found out that default cameras aren't optimal and was given the recommendation to change all my camera focal lengths to 105. I've noticed a marked improvement after doing that.  Took a bit of time to get used to after seeing distorted images for so many months,  LOL

Great work on the character, I can't wait to see the finished product.

Acadia,

Karin is half-way down on the freebies page.  I'd post a link to Barrowlass' site, but I don't want to kill her bandwidth. -Starkdog

Hi Acadia - just d/l Karin as u like - she (along with my other characters) lives on a great site, and AFAIK, there is little bandwidth restriction 😄
