Hmm... - not trying to be too pedantic and/or critical but:
The object looks more like a halbard than a spear (spears are for thrusting into people from the front, halbards are used to slash...
Weapons like this are generally classified as "pole-arms" (there's also a pole-axe: an axe mounted on the end of a long pole)
IMHO, the pole part is to thick and/or stubby in realation to the "business end".
The whole point (pun not intended) of polearms is to do damage from a distance.
Ummm.. give me a moment...
Found via a google image search for "Polearm"
(Alas, it's in French, so I can't be sure exactly what each one is, but it gives a good idea of the proportions..)
Hasten to add, you've made a good start though!

"Renderosity people are sooooooooo picki pikci....."
LOL!!. No, not trying to be picky, just trying to help.
If the proportions are correct, then the object looks better 'cos people recognise objects more by their proportions than by their actual shape (although both are used in the recognition process)...
Consider the differences between a coffee-table, a cafe-table and a dining table.
Even taken in isolation, with nothing else in the scene to provide scale, people would usually be able to descriminate between the three. 'Cos the proportions are different..:-))

depends on what you start out doing..my first Wings pic was glommed-together primitives..;) There's a lot of ways to make a spear. Don't be afraid of mistakes; you can learn just as much doing wrong as doing right (and I should know..;)

I do liek criticism from tiem to time it helps me improve. I don't always heed it and soemtimes it is an art to knwo when people are leading you astray and when they are pointing you in the right direction. The pic Diloma attached was very nice and I think you can use that for a referance for great follow up to your spear.

I cheated on my metaphysics exam by looking into the soul of the
person next to me.
