Subject: "Homepage" issues - Double names-choices?

TallPockets ( ) posted Wed, 13 September 2006 at 8:32 AM · edited Fri, 04 October 2024 at 5:25 PM

''Do you wish to view the homepage for username evilstoy or 1010''?

Hello:  Would anyone have an explanation for 'why', when I click onto 1010's ''homepage'' link, it asks me this???

THANKS, in advance, for any/all help ....

MUCH appreciated,

TallPockets.

Its due to the fact that "1010" has all numbers in their username and each member has a member ID that is a number so its causing a conflict

Yup, but the member ID is a numeric data type while the member name is a string. Oh sorry, it's PHP, it can't distinguish between data types.

Then again, this can be solved by scanning the member name column instead of the member ID column. Hmm, tricky, you'd have to make the links consistent. Why would you abandon the chaotic mixture of user IDs and user names in the programming? It would make this site less unique, since all other sites already have this consistency.

SVDL: Would you be so kind as to speak to TallPockets like a 'third grader' and explain all that in 'ENGLISH"? WINK.

StaceyG: Hello, kind soul, and THANKS for your reply. MUCH appreciated. Does this mean that this 'choice' in the above example will 'always' be this? Or, can it or will it be corrected?

BTW: I posted in a few threads in the 'forum' yesterday. I got 'one' ebot notification ("slow site speed' thread, only)  when someone had 'replied' in ALL my  thread postings.

Thanks, in advance, once again.

My best, TallPockets.

This is on the list to look into and resolve.
