Sheesh, it is too quiet in the Forum today. I hear my keyboard clicks echoing as I move around it. Why not post an image here that you like but will probably never put in your gallery, for whatever reason. I like the roots in this scene, but the compo is a tad dull and the image a little blurry, so this is the only place it will see the light of day...

good idea kort...

tumbleweed tumbles by

nice roots there... you get some weird trees around...

i title this peice Oasis... but it was taken on my A95, and isnt that great, i tried playing around with it but the sky just let it down for me. anyway, i just loved the fact that in the middle of all the shruberry in this scottish landscape there was this lush green pasture filled with sheep :)

Wow, I'm glad you did this Kort, I shot this months ago but with the Robin's head missing I just couldn't do anything with it.  I wanted to title it "Late for a Date" 'cause it reminded me of "Alice in Wonderland", LOL.

I love unusual trees and the "root" shot gives me hope that a couple of my trees will survive.

Rich, I just can't git enough of Scotish landscapes, what a beautiful country!

btw, camera took a shot and isn't working up to snuff, focusing problems, and my manual focus ability is still too slow and frustrates me, dang it. To the shop I guess.

TwoPynts ( ) posted Tue, 10 October 2006 at 4:04 PM

Manning, that is great. I see what you mean about the robin, so why not just crop a bit on the right side? Sorry to hear about your cam. :(

Firesnuffer ( ) posted Tue, 10 October 2006 at 4:18 PM · edited Tue, 10 October 2006 at 4:19 PM

Kort, I had thought of cropping the right side but actually the photo just isn't interesting enough(to me) with out both birds. Ah well, at the time I was trying to creep up on the robins when the rabbit bolted through.... just one of those deals that didn't work for me, I guess.

Excelent idea Kort.

This is a ferry called City Cat running up and down on Brisbaine river.  I loved to travel on it during my Brisbane visit a few yrs back . I could not make not one exceptable shot, as You can see , nothing right on a compo and on whole set up.

@ inshaala: The Original Oscar Mayer Weiner-Mobiles were used to deliver products to the stores back in the late 1950's - early 1960's. There are very few remaining, I've heard tell the Henry Ford Museum purchased one of them. There can't be more than a few of them left.

If you've ever been to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, then no doubt you've seen this guy.  He's known as the Urban Bushman.  He hides behind those branches he brings, and as unsuspecting victims walk up, he screams!  It's funny as hell to watch.  You'll usually have a crowd of 20 or 30 people across the street below Joe's Crab Shack watching the whole thing.  After he scares you, you tip him a buck.  If you don't, expect some rather colorful -and funny- insults.  He's been there for as long as I can remember, he's even mentioned on the Internet.

Quote - @TerraDreamer - and if he doesnt scare you?

Well I guess you'd just point at him and laugh, but he's pretty good at it.  He knows when he's been spotted or not and 9 times out of 10 will get a good result.  I've seen men scream like women when he yells.  He's considerate though, he never tries to frighten the elderly.

Some really great shots here, I am so glad this thread took off. No time to comment on all of them, but I enjoyed each one. And the stories. I've seen the Wiener Mobile(s) quite often here in FL, maybe they've made more of them? Since cloud scenes seem popular, here are two more with some neat 'piled up' low laying clouds. Be sure to view full size.

Hee hee , great idea to kick start things, post something you don't want to post...genius...

Here's one I wouldn't want to post in my gallery for obvious reasons.

I like it because we found my daughter starting to make this weird expression with her mouth, she was doing quite a bit, so before it became  a habit we tried to sort of talk her out of it  - without much success.

I had the brainwave of sneaking a picture of her doing it. She looked at it once and hated the photograph so much it was stopped immedietly!

I love the story of the Urban bushman, I hope you tipped him well for the shot Steve.

nongo ( ) posted Thu, 12 October 2006 at 12:06 AM

Thanks Kim, that old bear looks much better with a dark background!!!  He's a retired actor bear, who now resides in a wildlife farm. There's actually several retiree's from the movies and they're quite the show off's. They'll do all sorts of tricks for some bread !!! LOL!!!! I know some people who'll do backflips for a good piece of sour dough!!! LOL!!!!!!

Hello everyone.

Great idea..And some great, fun and interesting photos.  One little question.  What size are pictures for the forum to be.

inshaala ( ) posted Thu, 12 October 2006 at 1:06 PM

i have a feeling it is below 200k, i just go for around the 100-150k mark and it seems to accept it. i think they get resized in posts (you can click on them to enlarge), generally around the 500-700 pixel on the long side is what i tend to do..

TomDart ( ) posted Thu, 12 October 2006 at 2:18 PM

Yes, 200k is the limit.  I make mine about the same size as mentioned above and save, as mentioned, to just below the 200k limit.  Then, the upload goes just fine.   Am I an echo? Yes, yes, yes.

Thanks Rich..

This is one I took at the Exchange. It's a junk/recycle place for great picture taking.  And about that wienermobile I took some pictures of one a few months back ,here in Washington St that was here for a contest looking for kids to sing the jingle for a new commercial. It was cute watching the kids trying to sing about wanting to be a Oscar meyer wiener.

TwoPynts ( ) posted Thu, 12 October 2006 at 2:24 PM

They can be any pixel size as far as I can tell, as long as the total file size stays below 200K Wonderful images one and all!!!
