Subject: ...Bryce 6 Boolean to Mesh Conversions...and B6 Scenes in Carrara...

...seems to me that with Bryce 6 Booleans to MESH now a reality- that this paves the way for the next version of Carrara to support DIRECT importing of Bryce 6 scenes- something I would really LOVE to see happen!

Of course, also needed is a Bryce mat to Carrara mat conversion as well- but if DAZ Eovia can pull off the B6 Boolean to Mesh trick - then converting mats should be within their scope of abilities!

While I am enjoying the new B6- having a faster Carrara rendering engine for Bryce scenes would be a great leap forward and really create the long dreamed of Bryce-RayDream link that was once the goal of MetaCreations.

... I also think having a TON of new Bryce mats in Carrara would be wonderful!

You can already get the mats out of Bryce and Vue for use in Carrara - just render on a cube(large) with high res/take into PS/PSP/Texture maker & make seamless & viola there ya go. This is what I do & works like a charm.  Water/glass & some metals will need tweaking, I just make notes as to the settings in those programs & convert into C shaders.

...Well I KNOW about that- as I have been getting stuff out of Bryce since 4.1 was released- the LAST present made to Bryce users by the Bryce programmers before MetaCreations closed down. They were thoughtful enough to be concerned that Bryce might NEVER survive the corporate meltdown and gave Bryce users a chance to Bail-Out- which is what I did when I discovered Vue 2...

Wolfie's Den has had this info up on his website since...1999 ??? I must have posted this link a hundred times for all those Bryce users and Vue users saying "How do I get stuff out of Bryce?"

http://www.wolfiesden.com/bryce/tut/old/med-export.html

It is NOT the same as actually having a REAL Procedural MAT to work with. That's what I WANT! (heh :)... and I believe that the DAZ Eovia team can deliver that ---as they are brightest group of programmers to play with Bryce source code since the original Bryce team...

Why do you need Bryce mats in Carrara, when Carrara's shader capabilities far exceed what Bryce is capable of, especially with plugins?

I think Veritas777 wants a 1:1 conversion to get his scenes as accurate as possible in Carrara.

...I also have a HUGE Collection of Bryce mats going back to 4.1 days- back when it took me a couple of years to figure out how to use the Bryce Material Room--- I would like to be able to use them in Carrara...

I also haven't gotten any real grasp on Carrara materials and how to make them. Getting a TON of new ones that I already made in Bryce would be REALLY NICE!

...I exported this spaceship out of Bryce 6 (it's one of the sample files) as a COB- using NOT the Boolean export feature- but just the Easter Egg Control-D thing...

The render here is done in B6 using the St, Peter's HDR file...

i don't quite understand why you'd need to port bryce scenes into carara, seeing as how it's equally easy to create them in C5. But anyway...

I think Carrara won the Carrara vs. Bryce Wars long ago.  Just because Daz owns both now doesn't mean they are now equals or even compatible.  Not really sure why Daz would even bother maintaining Bryce after version 6?  Some people need a car just to putt around in (like go to VONS or something) when they already have a great driving car.

Who would want to start learning 3D with Bryce when you could start with Carrara3dBasics?

I have never used any of my Bryce versions since I first got Carrara2.

Bryce has served it's purpose as a "learning" or introductory app I think.

I bought Bryce 2 ten years ago to do terrains.  Now there is Geo Control which does better terrains.  Bryce 5+ has stagnated into just a terrain/tree editor/renderer with model import and still uses that crazy KPT GUI.  Then it sees Vue which has already grabbed that kind of market which can do it all better.

What?  Bryce 6 is $6?  Nevermind what I just said.  Bryce totally rules now as a 3D app!
