Floating license means that you have a server that administrates your Vue serial numbers (licenses). So that you are able to run Vue on all computers in your network but of course only as many copies the same time as you have licenses.
Node locked indeed it the old way - the serial number is bound to the computer where you have installed Vue.

I run a dual boot system, one partition with XP Professional and the second partition with Windows x64 (64bit) edition.
I want install Vue6 in both partition because I usually use the 32bit environment, but for heavy tasks 64bit op.sys. allow better handling of 4gb ram I have.
Should I run Vue6 Infinite Node locked without problem ?
'floating licenses' makes sense on a local network with a lot of concurrent usage of Vue. I believe 'node locked' would work fine for a dual boot system (unless you find a way to run the 2 OSes at the same time, in which case I would like to have a word with you :)
I am not sure how using virtual machines such as VMware would affect licensing by the way. Better ask e-on for that one.
I'm fairly certain it's quite accepatable and legal from e-on's viewpoint to uses a single license across a dual booted machine since you can only use one copy at a time. They have also stated that you can use the same version on a different machine (e.g. a laptop) as long as you don't violate the EULA agreeement which states that it can only be run on one machine at a time.

Are you really sure that "node locked" is the same as the way previous versions of Vue installed? In reading the the descriptions of node locking - I wasn't sure what they meant. It seemed like a product activation type of scheme even though they never specifically mentioned that. The reason that I'm concerned is that I'm currently running Vue on a dual Processor system under XP and I will be loading up the Vue 6 Pre-release on that. When Windows Vista is available for sale, I will replace my Pre-Release Version of Vista (on my Dual Core 64 Bit machine) and load Vue 6, Poser, etc on that machine. If it is basically a re-load of the the software, that is fine - if I have to work around an activation scheme - it will just be more of a hassle .

Ok, the process may be differnet - with this activation. But the license agreement is the same. And that is what i meant.
I would not be too worried about the activation thingie when switching a computer, e-on in my eyes was always very helpful in those things.
Btw, i am in the middle of such a process, switching from a Mac G4 to a Macx Pro and go through this experience. The worst so far is Quark - wrong telephone number, wrong link in the internet, wrong everything. Will need to call them directly again i think. But then i think i am done - and plan to run a node locked version on the Mac and on the Windows side of this machine.

Wabe: I agree with the comments on E-on - they have always tried to do the right thing when I have had problems. That is why I only paused when I was reading throught the "node lock" info. I figured if I had any issues they could be worked through. Well, I'm going to try to install my Pre-Release Vue Infinite 6 Now. Wish me luck !

Well I just got the Floating version of Vue6 xStream installed on my Dual Xeon 5160 and I am having issues. I have 8Gig of memory running Windows XP 64 bit.
1. The content directory has issues, could this be because progrma was installed on my Raid 5 System instead of my Boot partition.
I could installed the 32 bit version of another machine and try it.
...sorry, didn't see this or the other thread on this- I also posted a thread on this as well.. I notice that NO ONE has a CLEAR answer to this so far... that is ---what will REALLY HAPPEN when Vue 6 Inf is officially released...

I sent another message to E-On about my License server problem, I am not sure if this 64 bit only problem, but the system keeps loosing its connection to server. Maybe it would work better if I installed the 32 bit system on machine.
I not too happy with the lock up at tender time, because it requires me kill the task and come back in. I thought it might be related to the fact that it looses connection in middle. One time I got message that it lost connection to server.
