Bryce 5 is well into the beta cycle.. also, like most beta's, there is a NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with the testers. So for feature list.. we'll all have to wait and see. As for the upgrade, I'm pretty sure Corel will offer 2 packages.. full & upgrade. It would lose a lot of customer base if they didn't !!
The doctor says I have way too much blood in my caffeine system.
Due to the NDA, Bryce 5 beta testers are NOT allowed to distribute information about the beta or images created using the beta. So there won't be anything in the galleries until the product is released. It would be a colossal blunder for Corel not to offer Bryce 5 as an upgrade to Bryce 4, for a reasonable price - $99 to $129, I would guess. Forcing the established user base to pay $299 list for what's essentially an upgrade would doom the product.
doom dancer I meant the full version upgrades that they make after acquiring. The corel version of Bryce has like 3 new things and a really bad handling/rendering of volumetric materials so they did the upgrade thing for it. Bryce 5 has (according to the press release) several new features that will make old and new brycers want to upgrade...and most likely, even upgrade for a full price. My guess is it will be between 200 and 300 bucks (US). There is a NDA...but bryce5 has a release page already printed that previews some of the features... soft lighting plants terrain editor break away menus (but it still works the same? no new features here?) a faster render engine (not sure if the old one still exists too..side by side comparison renders were several percent faster on 5 than on 4) and other stuph that Ive forgotten was printed btw, Im not a beta tester...so Im not breaking any NDA stuph. When it is officially released, I will get a drop ship of it and do a quick review for everyone so they can determine if they want to get it. The "plants" feature is what I'm excited about. Vue has had it for forever, 'bout time that Bryce did. later BT
Yea! Shoot us out a link! All I can say, is if it is worth it, I'll pay the full price. But it seems realy dumb to not offer some type of reduced price to previous owners. At least Bryce 4 owners, I'm not realy sure how long Bryce has been around. Plants... sounds interesting! I surly do hope they scrap the old rendering engine. The only think I realy liked about is was its caustics and refraction!
I believe that the Mac version of Bryce 5 is optimised for G4 Altivec processors (dual as well!!) and OSX! - that should be a great combination! - I must admit, at least 'some' more complex modelling tools would be sensible by now, as to the render engine, sure please speed it up, but dont lose its quality!! - soft shadows, plants and built in motion effects would be cool also!

I signed up for the Bryce 5 beta a while back, and they said they would contact me later, but I havn't heard anything from them. Any one know what all is going to be included in Bryce 5 feature wise? Hehe, maybe Radiocity and some sort of REAL modeler!!! :) Also, Bryce 4 was the first Bryce series that I purchased, and it came from Metacreations. Will I beable to get a reduced price (if so, how much) sence Bryce has changed owners? (Correl I think). Thanks!
