Didn't even know I was missing did ya? My computer died and I was MIA for the longest three weeks I've spent recently. And to be honest, I didn't even get out of bed for that time. The computer, my art and writing, are the only things that get me up and moving in the morning, as sick as I am. Without it, I not only have no motivation at all, but I'm completely cut off from the world. I also lost a LOT of files.

On a brighter note, there's a trailer on line for my movie CARNIES. I can't see it myself because it requires quicktime and that's a program I refuse to have on my computer. I'm told it looks rather good, though.

welcome back, bone. I couldn't view it, either, altho I got qt on this machine. I think it was trying to load it too slow or something.

**Welcome back Bone, sorry to hear 'bout the Lost Files but it does happen...sigh. I'd also recommend the QT Alternative..works well...the dl for that trailer crashed my browser with the error message displayed here.**

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound

o.k., it's the h264 codec. qt 7.x or better. in my case it just said "contacting the server" or something, which I assumed meant the server was slow in responding.

Heya bone,

Mobo, CPU, or HD failure? In any event, sorry to hear it. Congrats on the flick!
Why have such a problem with QT? I don't particularly like their upgrade policy, but aside from that, I've never had a problem with QT and Windoze.
Of course, I could be intentionally ignoring a problem, 'cause I have to have it to view some LW  vid toots I bought. ;)
Got 'puter problems solved? How about vid card? I have a geForce FX 6600 (AGP) I can't use anymore, since I went PCI-e. If you want, I can send.

My hard drive and video card both went at the same time. My computer guy essentially built a new puter using the case of the old one and the parts that were salvagable. It's not what I'd like ideally, but it'll get me by. I dream of having a computer that's everything I need someday. It has a Radeon 9550 vid card with 256 mgs of memory. I have no idea how good that is. I prefer GeForce.

My problem with quicktime isn't that it's a bad program. It's that when you try to uninstall it, it leaves hundreds of files on your hard drive that can't be uninstalled. I have a problem with ANY program that does that.

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

True - QT buries itself deep, as anyone who owns a license to a previous version and tries to upgrade, only to find out it's not incremental, can attest to (making their purchase invalid), but if it's a memory concern, it can be disabled through the command msconfig.exe. and eliminating it from the startup programs.
That could screw with the .mpg codec, though, so might not be a great solution.

I'm not sure either how good ATI is with graphics programs OGL, although I have heard that ATI is better suited for games than programs, for.whatever.reason. shrug

The PNY Nvidia GeForce FX  6600 (AGP) vid card I have is, literally, sitting on a shelf, never to be used again, and I bought it right before my old puter ded, just a few months ago. It's 256 MB VRAM , and plays Oblivion about 3/4 of the way to perfect. ;)  I also have a Gainward GeForce 5700, which is great for graphics, but sucks for games. Also 256 Mb RAM
Also, I have some DDR400 (PC3200) RAM sticks sitting around - 3- 512MB modules,and  2- 256 MB modules.
You want any of this shit, just say so here or  in a PM, 'cause it's not going to do to anything here but collect dust. Price: Free - cause I'm too much of a geek to let it lie around, doing nobody no good. ;-)
