Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 30 6:52 am)
Well....I was coming to post the below here, but got tied up moving around in vue 6.... I thought, while waiting and hoping for a call back I would TRY installing... and....
The software itself IS just under 600 mb...the content WITH it then adds up to about 1.3 gigs.... so I had to find out by TRYING the "small on hour download" of vue 6 - to see if it would indeed install... IT DID!! I just wish e-on would have stated that the size of the program itself was "only" this amount, so I did not think I had a broken program or bad download...especially after e-on sent me TWO download e mails TELLING ME the first one was a bad one! Sheesh!
The next step after activation is to get the latest updates for the program and the content... then burn all to a CD. e-on Oregon DID call me back and help me undertand it all... Rick was so kind...and said the program would not have "activated" if it were not a completed download! Whew!
NOW what I can't figure out is why each window is taking SOOO long to update... I turned off the open GL and made stuff "wire frame" right away... and it was going okay UNTIL I brought in a poser figure... gosh for THIS THING I think I do need a manual... I don't understand the import options (except for the frame part.. LOL!!) and it kept saying a message that it would take a lot of resources so I kept UNCHECKING the poser import thingys... I think it did not want "shaders" which is silly anyway...
But once I got my figure in (the famous Irena and monster) vue acted like it had a ton of stuff and soon I just sat back and watched it select and unselect stuff for a WHILE - because in my own mis-understanding at the non-response I just kept clicking... erg! Is this a known thing or is there some thing I can uncheck to speed things up in the 4 view? It took ages to resize and move my dense mesh red-highlighted figure!
Also I can't seem to have as much control over the sun...I am using the old BLUE vue 5 and old controls... thought the brown was better but NOT for my eyes.. I can't SEE the TINY white words.. at least I got used to the blue and it's icons etc...
I did find the eco paint thing...but I already had tried the old way... at first it thought my stuff was not registered... (bulkey confier 3) but then the others were okay in that set... but took AGES to come in... I got my buccaneer palms in okay...and Linda's Lush pasture and weeds...but the same old trouble with two plants in the old eco way...populate one and it badly affects the other... so that is why I decided to try PAINTING... well I could put a palm here and there, but no way could I paint the grass... I need an eco-painting class!!!
The renders in FINAL are remarkable! Slower but at least no odd dotty surface like the default vue 5 one... and* *I think that the render takes longer in the cloud setting...that third one over... so I force myself to be patient... and long for me is prob short for most folks...
Anyway...the lighting is a bit hard to control, the poser figure moving and I am not sure I chose the right xyz format? I want it the "old" way/direction but with dyslexia... all I could tell it was "Y is up"... in one option area...
Guess I better TRY the PDF and hope it has pictures... !
Okay.... back to it....! :)
Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!
Ah, ok, so its 1.3GB unzipped - thats good to know :)
Out of curiousity...
I have one PC for internet use (if anything goes wrong, I just reformat it) which I'm currently using to download the v6i installers, and an entirely physically separate PC for doing 3d stuff on. I presume I'll be able to install V6i on that second non-internetted PC ok and "trouble free" as thats where I want it to go...... will I???

Yes - what i did was to write all onto a DVD (Installer AND Extra CD. And installed from there simply. Even the autostart worked on Windows side.
The only little difficulty will be the activation for you - the easiest is to do it directly online. But it should be possible via email too (I have not personally tried out, therefore the "should").

Ah thats good to hear. If its the same as the V5i activation, that was simple enough, though a bit of an adventure (At the time I was installing both LightWave and V5i at the same time and having to go logging in and getting activations and dongles and ... for both programs ... well it was quite an adventure ;)

Out of curiosity... or more curiosity..... the bits you are meant to download with the downloader program - how big are they individually?
I tried downloading today on my home PC while I was at work and the PC crashed sometime during the day. There's one 327MB archive.zeon file sitting in a temp directory. Restarting the downloader and it starts at part 2/2 and seems to be making an archive0.zeon file.. I presume thats normal..... maybe...hopefully .....

I don't think anybody really knows because the management of the parts is done completely by the downloader. The total is the approx 590 MB.
So to me it looks like that indeed you got part 1 and part 2 is downloading. Let's cross fingers it will end in a good one that you install and play with over the weekend!
And aren't dreams not only nightmares on prosecco?

Depends on how much prosecco you drink (prosecco is a brand or type of wine isn't it?) ;)
I'm old fashioned - I like my download links to be links lol. These new fangled downloaders are all black magic and voodoo. Though it does sound like I'm doing a good test on how robust the downloader voodoo is lol

> Quote - Just now got the first email....still validating payment.Your stuck with waiting until Monday.
Just don't get it, they have major motion picture companies buying their products, think they would get it together and figure out how to do orders automatically. The whole purpose of using a computer is to automate some of this stuff. I bought all my vue stuffage through them they should be able to automatically look up the info in the database and get the money and send the download link...lol Oh well. You guys have fun I'm off to clean my den.

Major motion picture companies no doubt buy in bulk using a purchase order (with 30 days to pay), the rest of us just have to wait for them to process the CC transaction.
I have to agree with Marque. I've recently bought ZBrush 2 and an upgrade to C4D, both more expensive than the upgrade to V6. Both purchases went as slick and quick as you could hope. In the past year I've also bought several other bits and pieces of software approaching the V6 upgrade price. With none of them did I ever have to jump through so many hoops as with e-on.
It's not just validating payment. What's with three long numbers to get it working - a serial number, an INST code, and an activation code? Even Microsoft don't do that! And even then their server gets it wrong and hands out the wrong numbers, as it did to me and several others apparently.
Frankly, great product but weird company. You'd think they were actually trying to make it hard to buy.
Steve
They must do it by hand. When I first got Vue 4 the gal forgot to add the last 3 digits, wasn't able to use the program for a week and no one at the vue number in Oregon could figure out why. They need to hire folks who can do customer service and they need computers that can handle customer service. I go through this every time I buy something from them. I don't think they care, they are selling their product and that's all that counts to them. Most companies have the money out of my account before I hang up the phone or close the web page...lol

OH good grief,... I got my e mails, my serial number and downloaded the content first...then started the downloader exe... and got this tiny e-on progress bar... It went only an hour and I got 586 MB and a sceen asking me if I want to INSTALL vue 6! I said no, because it is supposed to be a 1.3 gig download? GOOD THING I DID NOT GO OVER NIGHT! GRRR.
Anyway, HELP! The lines are busy at e on ( I am in calif - same time zone as Oregon...) left a message...but I also got messages on my computer saying I could not download again... well pooey I clicked the downloader again, made sure my firewall granted all access and now I am starting over! I can see it building a temp file in my windows temp of MY user self....and now I also have this 568 mb folder called vue 6 infininte install in the folder I said it should download TO...
When downloading I saw par 1/2 and then part 2of 2 and one other I forget... but why would it quit?
I also had gotten TWO e mails saying to click to download and then one that said DON'T USE THE FIRST E MAIL TO DOWNLOAD... USE THE SECOND ONE..AND IF YOU DID NOT GET A SECOND ONE CONTACT E ON... arrrgggghh!
I carefully looked at hte TIMES on the two e mails and chose the later of the two for this process... suppose I still got a bad one? Of course all e mails say DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS e mail....
I am so STUCK...here I wait all this time for a fast download (and it is) but then it is all messed up!
OR is that 568 the full program and if I add the content CD mb to it I would have the "1.3 gig" download?? Should I try to install anyway?? Yegads this is CONFUSING!! :(
Lyne
Well and the support PHONE message says they can only help with the INSTALL... not with anything else... is my situation a "anything else" when I am not really installing yet?
OH and my ziped content and what I do have only adds up to 954 MB...
