I do have to admit that I do, also, occasionally, in moments of weakness, get irritated when I browse the Poser gallery and see that someone stuck v3, naked, with big nipples, on a freebie background and has 5 million "THIS IS SO COOL!" comments... But then... I go back and look at the stuff I started with. I started, originally, with Bryce (and old version). My first picture was water (cause rendering water was cooool!), a default terrain plopped in the middle, half submerged, and a dolphin. I then smack myself in the forehead and remind myself about throwing stones in glass houses.
Ultimately it's what the artist feels. If it provokes some sort of response from those viewing, then all the better!!!!
Of course, I suppose if I were relying on my art to put food on the table, some of my opinions might be different, at least slightly.
Attached is the first piece of digital "art" I ever created, back in 1997. Everyone starts somewhere! Hopefully in 9 years I've gotten at least slightly better :)

There! I've said my thing too (on page 3). Ha!!! ;o)) Edited: I might as well copy it in here... it could be relevant here too ;o)) _______________ Something to think about: I thought that ART had everything to do with perfecting your skills as much as possible... so I went to art school (college in American English) for six years. I learned everything there was to learn about various art forms and chose a specialisation in graphic design. The most important thing that I learned though, is that once you have learned everything, you have to omit it all to come to the essence... keep purifying, simplifying, focusing on that one pure 'message' and trash all the superfluous and unnecessary. And that can be the longest process of all... but certainly the most rewarding in the end. I have seen works where the 'artist' had put all his acquired skills all together in one image or work, and in the end I just ended up asking myself: "what on earth is he trying to say to me? That he can do it all..?" Lately I've been working with mentally disabled people. I've seen some incredible images, paintings, sculptures that they created. And I couldn't help myself thinking: "Here I am, coming all this way, from school, over 15 years as a graphic designer, only to find that these people are creating the art that I would so love to create, but can't, because I can't shake off all that damned 'knowledge' and 'skill' that I thought was necessary to go through first"... Don't let knowledge and skill be like a blindfold or a blinding sun... It's YOUR VISION that counts. If you know the mature works of Picasso, you probably know what I'm talking about...

Good art is defined in exactly the same way as good wine. If you like it, it's good, no matter what your tastes, how old it is or what went into it. If we ALL loved the same things art wouldn't be half as much fun, and I probably wouldn't have any comments on my work.....lol
I won't get into Tits For Hits, but thank everyone for the opportunity to mention it again.
The original and followed arguments aren't worth a damn to me, to be honest. We're individuals, with individual tastes, ideals and preferences. Why people waste as much energy as they do ranting in massive posts like that is beyond me - it simply means they are too ignorant to accept the fact. I'm not gonna berate the fact that they posted, coz that would be hypocrytical. lol. Live and Let Live.

Hey, Kort, Did I do well? Did I? Eh? Eh? Can you imaine the rant I would have posted a year or so ago?? Blimey, have I changed or wot?!? ROFLMAO............

IMHO....(if Ive read correctly etc etc....) its one of the reasons I stopped using poser, Bryce 3D S Max.... I honestly cant GET why anyone would argue, pass bad judgement or rant over something that comes down to personal taste and artistic opinion. It boils down to I see things one way, and prefer doing/using things how I see fit. Just because Joe Soap see's it differently... well...chances are he will :))) so damn what shrug who gives a rats bollocks????

Good points one and all. Gora...Steven Wright never mentions what side of the toast is up when strapped to the cat. (usefull thing to ponder for the week) :']

Well, if the butter is on the fur side the toast and the cat are voting for feet first!
If it is butter side up, the cat has a fight on its hands ( paws...sorry! )

If we anal-ise the situation... it might even influence the experiment if one had to use margarine as apposed to butter.... I havent even dwelled on the thought of using lard... Perhaps if one used a larger species of the cat family for example a White Bengal Tiger... and the slice of bread had the crusts cut off... would this interfere with the so called experiment... the possibilities are endless... brown bread, wholegrain... gee's imagine if you had to use french loaf...would the cat yell "CHIOTTE!!!!!!!!" (in a kitty language of course.....) as it were struggling the odds with the bread.
Who knows what fate holds in store for both the cat or the bread....
Lastly but not leastly (is there such a word?) what if the cat happened to be Garfiled... he may eat the bread before he lands???????
I certainly hope this gives you all food for thought (pun most definately intended)

btw, in certain ahem experiments, it was noticed that the cat(s) just about nearly always landed on their feet, from various heights ("apparently" you have to give them a hefty spin in the air and make the distance to the ground reasonably small for them not to. Gives them less time to react. allegedly. Although kittens do definately have less ability to do this. I've heard.)
The toast however, was reasonably random, certainly not enough to assume it ALWAYS lands butter side down. Although, this must revert back to Sods Law where the time you least WANT it to land butter side down (ie. last slice of bread, in a hurry etc etc) is when it will with the most consistency.
Considering the variation in weight ratio between butter/marg/lard (butter being of the median density of the three items mentioned and therefore the best test subject anyways) would be just about negligable compared to ANY cat used I consider this to be a moot point. Also, if you wanna be the one to try strapping toast to a tiger without something being eaten, that would surely be an amusing side to the experiment which would guarentee hits on You Tube.
I'd put my bets on the cat. Every time.
(",)
BTW, what sort of strapping are you talking about? I don't think it would affect the experiment, just wanna know if you're cruel enough to duct-tape it and leave the cat with a bald stripe?
P.S. I think we've gone off-topic here. Again.
When you starve with a tiger, the tiger starves last.
Nah...cruel isnt my middle name.... mind you.... I wonder what a Bengal Tiger would look like with a horizonal stripe round its middle... you know in fashion circles its a well known fact that horizontal stripes do accentuate "large boned" people..ermmmm....in this case cats physiques...and has the distinct possibilty of making them appear more portly... but then again why would one worry about stripes and appearing portly...when one has more pressing ailments like having buttered toast attached to one's back????
I do however have to agree with you, on the matter of physics (not to be confused with physiques) Bengal Tigers (being proven to be portly by myself: see above...) would not be able to be lifted very high... as I mentioned them being large: therefore heavy, awkward to carry, have a nasty habit of snapping wantonly at ones attatchments, and the purely coincidental fact that because of the buttered toast...chances are it would be slightly greasy making it rather slippery...no?
Which of course leads us into further debate, as to whether one would first attach the toast to the so called cat, and then attempt to butter the toast...OR... butter the toast, then attach to the cat???
If anyone has attempted this experiment, or has record of ANYONE who has... please let us know... I would hate to be accused of plagurism of anyone's lifelong study... or even worse cause a large cat to needlessly have to walk around with a "bikini waxing gone wrong" look...
