Yikes! Is there any consistency to how often that happens? DAZ|Studio would do stuff like that to me when I obscured the viewport while rendering bot Poser never has (still does not). I have seen it leave a little trash on the viewport while rendering with P7 but when it finishes it goes away.
This is the first thing I've really rendered in P7. That's from the exported render too. I used the 'default' camera because I didn't need anything fancy. Poser 6 took FOREVER to render the same scene (and at a much reduced resolution too! the original was 9" x 12", in P6, I dropped it to 600x800 LOL). The artifacts were not present in the P6 render. Quite frankly, I am starting to suspect texture filtering as I always have that off by default in Poser 6. My poser 6 always froze with it on. I'll post an update if that makes a difference.
Oh no, here we go again. I can't tell you how many times I had to learn all about Poser 5 and 6 rendering issues. Reflection artifacts, refraction artifacts, shadow artifacts, texture filtering artifacts, smoothing artifacts, displacement artifacts. I know at least a dozen perfectly reasonable situations and settings that will ruin your render in ways that no other software has ever accomplished.
Searching forums endlessly, doing thousands of test renders, then after mastering what not to do, explaining a gabillion times to all the newer folks how you should never turn this dial too low or too high, otherwise perfectly ordinary and simple squares do not render correctly.
Poser has the quirkiest renderer I've ever seen. I had hoped P7 would clean things up a bit. Those artifacts look totally different than any I've seen before. So I guess we'll be learning a few dozen more things you should not do in Poser.
I think if there was an awards category for software containing "the most built-in features you must never use", Poser would win hands down, year after year.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
If I had been using a camera, I would have said there was dust on my lens.
Just shooting in the dark...... could that be some sort of filter effect..... like you said.. dirty lenz...

Funny thing is I saw someting like this,(just not quite, mine were multicoloured squares) in my first serious P7 render. BUT they all disappeared once the render was 100% done. And they didn't save onto the final render. I was "LIKE WTF?!" when I saw thenm but they disappeared.
It MAY have to do with the viewport being obstructed during the render but I'm not sure. In my case they didn't actually apear on the saved render...

Oh and Bagginsbill.. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a case of Poser using a renderer which is actually capable of a LOT, but they just fail to explain how to actually use it? I mean look what the Mathmatic scripts can do in the material Room. And Stewer has often told us about amazing features which are actually present in Poser. Just no one knows how to use them :o)

Unfortunately, mine stayed with the saved render. I posted pretty much the same thing to E Frontier tech support, letting them know they totally disappeared with the P6 render of the same scene. Working on turning off texture filtering on all the textures right now (sloooow process, lots of textures). I need to figure out how to create a wacro to turn texture filtering on or off with one click. Maybe someone can help me with that? LOL
I'm still debating, do I upgrade my poser from 6 to 7, or do I take that money and put it towards carrara...

Conniekat8: It may be worth it to you to put your money toward Carrara. The renders I've seen with Carara are beautiful and you can still use Poser 6 for posing. Myself, I really do LIKE what the Poser 7 render engine is capable of. Just a few kinks to work out grins
I think I'm waiting to hear some feedback on modelling 'brushes' (I forgot what they called them). Coming from some other applications I use for work, it really bugged me in poser that I can't just pick up a few vertices and move them where I want them.
I agree with you on the renderer.

screams Okay... so I changed lights because I hated the lighting in the initial render.
THE ARTIFACTS CAME BACK. Not only that but even WORSE than they were there before but also in the exact same place. Texture filtering is OFF. :blink:
I'm not sure what to think at this point. I'll wait back to hear from E Frontier on the initial issue and then update them on what happened after changing lights. Even if there is some trash like other folks have seen when rendering, it should disappear in the final render.
Ack. Hmm. I'm starting to suspect even MORE that the artifacts are from multi-threading. Only mine aren't clearing up the way other people are reporting they're clearing up for them. Curioser and curioser. I've started a diologue with E Frontier. Maybe something good will come out of my frustration. :huh:

Me? I like to do a variety of things in 3D. I did a quick demo of Carrara and it appears to do a somewhat decent job of importing Poser content. Modelling and rigging human characters or animals in 3d is my weakest link, so I like to use poser content for that. But I like to create my own scenes and model my own props (usually in 3D studio-which I use for some terrain modeling work applications).
At home, for fun things,I like something where environment and lighting setup is little less complex. (For example, I love the ease of bryce)
Seems like Poser and Bryce are too little, and 3d studio for a while is too much. I'm on a path of learning 3d studio more too... But for home use, it seems that something like Carrara or perhaps Vue would be a decent solution when you cross price with performance. I spend a few days demoing carrara and it seems like it has potential.
If I could only take a piece of Poser and a piece of bryce and a piece of carrara and piece of vue and piece of max, and some plugings, I'd have just what I have in mind LOL!
As you can see, I'm sort of undecided and wanting to keep a some options open, but above are thoughts that keep bouncing around my nead...
