Subject: Dumb question time!

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 13 December 2006 at 6:00 AM · edited Sat, 21 December 2024 at 10:26 AM

I know this'll be a really easy answer but I'm having a shit day ok [:-))]

Why, when I zoom out does my main light drop onto the floor?

I know it'll be really simple 'cos when I zoom back in it goes back up!!!

Thanx if you tell this dummy  the answer!!

Hmmmm might need to use crazy glue™ next time!

hahaha ahhh man sorry....just had to lol... and uhm I never had
that problem with Vue infinite 5.  sorry ~ have a cool day hopefully

Never had that problem either - when you zoom out, do a test render. It could just be a display issue and not really happening physically to the light.

If it's happening physically to the light and it shows in your test render... I haven't the foggiest f---ing notion (wide-eyed, shrugs). If that's the case, email e-on.

Well, I suppose it's only because the light gets further away, and so looks like it's going down near the floor, but it's just perspective at work. To be sure, just check the light position in the object manager's numerics  tab.

I think Bruno has something. You can switch on/off something in the preferences. That lights and cameras are displayed always the same size. Maybe this causes this optical effect.

Funny to read something about physically happening in this case, shows how real we feel this all here. All virtual in a computer Lew! :-))))

Hmm! I only noticed this after I suddenly had to re-validate my V6Inf yesterday, apparently this happened because I made a change to my system according to E-on!!
Odd!!!
I'll look at prefs when I get home!
Thanx all!

hey Buddy .. i think its a optical illusion .. to check it, move the Top camera to the side and try it again with the main Cam .. when you think its on the floor ..check it with the top cam...

Hope this helps ...

@Wabe - yeah, I know it's not real ("Do you think that's 'air' you're breathing?") - it's just the only way I could think to describe it. ;-)

If the light actually drops in its coordinates, the test render will show that (shadows falling in a new direction, etc.). If the lighting doesn't change in the render, it's an optical illusion  of the display - or happening with the display of objects.

I tend to believe it's an illusion also, caused my the zooming away factor... but than again, there is no absolute certainty

wabe ( ) posted Wed, 13 December 2006 at 8:12 AM

Do we breath air? Of course i was only making a joke - and we all understood perfectly. Even I !

I know you were joking ;-) I was just reinforcing the joke with the quote - smiling when I typed it.

The quote was from "The Matrix" during the first training fight in the dojo - between Morpheus and Neo - he was trying to get Neo to understand that everything there is an illusion - even the notion that it's not really air he's breathing at that point.

There's some research statistic claiming that over 40 percent of any typed messages are misunderstood, or the intention misread - a HUGE part of our communications is "reading the other person" through body language, verbal inflections, facial expression, etc. Totally lost reading type.

Don't worry - I knew you were joking ;-)

not to forget that 95% of the problems sit in front of the monitor - my favourite words from an old support technician i once spoke to.

Of course nothing to do with this thread!

LOL, I know it is probably an illusion, it's just that I never noticed it before having to re-validate it last night!
Now that could well be down to me not really taking notice, I will check when I get home in a couple of hours!
Thanx!
