I would supply as many views as you can of the helmet...  when you say "this"  do you mean the helmet and shoulder pads or the suit as well...?  To get help be more specific..

MACROSS!!!! I have an old book from darkhorse... any way! check with royloo, I think he already has one... copy and paste:http://www.royloo.com/free.php he did me up nice with a cool yamato(starblazers) and some sweet macross(robotech) mechs and props! but free work? right now always! I like my ideas, but working for me, I dont push myself, so I dont learn. I cant ship a file or render out until I like it so I push harder on someone elses Idea, but not for long. once I get really, really, better than I am, I start charging! (gotta pay for MAX 9 somehow...)

witch program is the most user friendly and easy to pick up??i already got all royloo's stuff but thanks.

I would start with wingz myself . It seems to be the easiest to pick up.

what??? ill try wingz and see what happens.

pakled ( ) posted Sat, 16 December 2006 at 9:53 AM

having tried all 3, I found Wings the easiest. I tend more towards buildings and spaceships, things with curves tend to throw me (IRL too..;) Might make a stab at it, but can't promise anything.

We have a Wings forum here, lotsa helpful people, so give it a shot. All you'd be out is some download time..;)

5th Dimension has a backpack very similar to the one you're pointing out. I think I got it at Runtime DNA. I'm fiddling with it, but there will always be better versions coming out (the helmet, etc)

...and this is why I don't do organics..;) free if ya want it..never did well in Geometry..;)

Note- for some reason, one of my picture viewers has deprived Paintbrush (quickie job..;) of the ability to save to jpg. For some reason, it will do bmp or gif, and if gif, it 'de-colorizes' it. The colors are just material zones that can be used to Uvmap it. haven't tested it in Poser yet...brb..;)

and this is really, really, REALLY why I don't do organics..;p) It's the seams in the helmet. If Poser encounters bad geometry, it looks like a grilled cheese sandwich left in the microwave for too long..;) Go with the other guy, looks like his mesh works better..;)

ok..played with it some, and here's something. Note- one thing I've noticed in all modeling, especially with something that goes on for more than a season, is that they 'tweak' the models. A ship at the beginning of the series will have subtle changes over the end. I did use the reference pic, but it was actually more like 7 separate ships.  So I improvised. Here's the wireframe.

pakled- you have the basic shape correct, but it's flying upside down! ;) Don't forget the "aircraft crarrier" left arm and "battleship" right arm.   Check out the attached Google Image link for more shots of the SDF-1. Note that it can change from "ship" mode to "robot" mode.

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 20 December 2006 at 8:09 PM

ah. There were about 7 different ships. I've never seen this show/game/whatever, so I literally don't know my up from down..;) I knew these were 'transformers'...;)

I dunno. I'll take a look about making more of the ship, but as for the transforming part, that'll take someone better'n me..;)
thanks for the reference pics, tho.

JHoagland ( ) posted Wed, 20 December 2006 at 10:05 PM

These ships are from "Robotech", specifically, the first series, "The Macross Saga". This was a great anime series that focused on characters and a storyline... rather than on selling toys (like Transformers, He-Man, G.I.Joe, etc).

If you're going to make a transforming SDF-1, it helps to have either the Robotech DVD's or a plastic model or the comic book series.
We purists could also get into an argument about what the "correct" version is: should it be the green "organic" ship that crash-landed on Earth in the first episode, should it be the version without the "battleship" and "aircraft carrier" arms (seen in the first few episodes) or should it be the version with the arms.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Thu, 21 December 2006 at 3:14 AM

Isn't the history of this a bit complicated? As I recall, several different Japanese anime series were shoehorned into a single series for US TV.

pakled ( ) posted Thu, 21 December 2006 at 7:24 AM

well, I missed out on these. Last anime series I paid any attention to was someone digging up an old Japanese battleship (the Yamato), and putting it in space..;) I dunno..some of that stuff leaves me cold; physically overdeveloped 6 year olds (at least looking at the eyes..bit pervy for me..but I'm an old f*rt anyways..;)

scott8539 ( ) posted Thu, 21 December 2006 at 2:32 PM

in the macross version the sdf-1 had the space carriers on the sides then after an attack it did a space fold with the whole island so they used the air craft carrier and the sub aircraft carrier.any thing after the macross saga was from 2 differant shows.
