Subject: V4 Character creation - is it as hard as it sounds?

spyder97526 ( ) posted Sat, 16 December 2006 at 8:54 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 9:47 PM

Well, I have looked about for different online resources looking to be able to create a character for V4 so I can sell it in the marketplace, but I have had no real luck in finding a definitive answer. Also, an answer from Daz isn't forthcoming, because I have left 2 threads that everyone just skips over.
So I will ask here.

How do I, or where do I go to found out how to, create a character (via INJ/REM or however its done) for Vicky 4 and save it?
V2 was easy, V3 was a bit more tedious but with having to buy a program just to do it, I never got around to it - but reading online some of the things you need to know to create a character I get the feeling I need to have knowledge on how to split an atom!
PBM's, FBM's, JCM's, PMD's...I honestly don't delve deep into the workings of 3d, I like using it as an outlet for art, and I would like to make a dollar or two if I can wow the R'osity community by making and successfully selling a character.
Do I have to know all of THAT^ just to do it?!
I have Poser 6, The recent Daz|Studio and Mat Pose edit (Which I dont think I'll need for a character, only for textures)...hopefully not too much more is necessary..

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You'll need Injection Pose Builder from DAZ to create the INJ/REM files for your morphs.  I can write up a quick tut on how to use IPB, including how to create a link library file for V4 if anyone wants it.

The most time in character creation is making the texture.  Most of the texture makers (myself included) have a membership at 3d.sk.  He has thousands of hi-res photos that we use to create photo-realistic skin textures which can take a long time to put together.  V4 has 7 separate texture maps so it's a tedious process.

As for making MAT poses, I prefer QuickMat since it supports the P5, P6 and P7 shader nodes.  MPE doesn't support shaders.

The basics are rather simple.   At least to my knowledge, though nothing i've ever created i'd call sellable.

Basically, create your character with morphs/injections, to the specifications you want it, then in your pose folder just make a new folder, and click the plus sign..... and it will direct you through it in the window to save the morph targets.

I've never made textures so that part I'm unaware of, just saving the finished character.

If you dont want the default non rendered V4 (or figure) in the library picture, render it out, then use the render as your background for the morphed figure.  Move the scene over, out of the picture, then save it.  It saves the morph targets, but uses the background picture as the icon in the library.  Much nicer looking.

err, realized i missed that, i dont know if that method saves inj's at all.  Just morphs.

Thanks for the quick responses :)
Yea, I had a subscription to 3d sk a long time ago, went back to see if he had anything new and it has sure grown since I was there last! I am working on a texture from some of the pictures I got from there from my last visit along with some of the merchant resources I bought from the R'osity store some time ago also.
So INJ Pose Builder will already be compatible for V4? I know it said 3rd generation characters in the advert when I bought it, and I was going to use it for V and M3. I'll have to reinstall it and check it out :)

Making textures is no problem for me, I love graphics work and all that's involved - its the gears and cogs of the 3d environment that stumps me and quite frankly, it causes brain fires regularly whe I have to start reading about opening channels in text files and deleting this and modifying that...
Damn, I smell smoke already...

IPB works fine for V4, all you have to do is create a new link library for her.

How do you set up a new link library for V4? Are you pointing  at the CR ?
The only sucessful new link I was able to do was Mil Cat.

-BrandyE- ( ) posted Sun, 17 December 2006 at 12:05 AM

Open IPB
Click on Create New
Then Click on Source File...
Browse to Curious Labs...Poser6....Runtime.....libraries....characters.....Daz People....Victoria 4.cr2
The File will parse, then you will be asked to fill in the information....and given a chance to exclude any morphs...

That's it...you should then have a link library for V4

Ok, I have two questions about INJ poses.

  1. I did a few characters for A3, V3, and SP now but I recognized that other characters often don't show the dial number and I want to have this for my own characters, too. Is this only possible for custom morphs? Is there a way in IPB to hide the dials or how is this done?
  2. What are the parameter libraries for V4, INJ channels(hidden)Daz  and INJ channels(hidden)Community  for and how do I use them?

I think it looks as if there are a few folk, myself included, who would benefit from an up to date tutorial on character creation then.

I don't know how V4 would differ from earlier iterations, or if there would be any differences with what revision of Poser you were using for that matter? 😕

If anyone who has the knowledge would be prepared to do one, pretty please?

TIA

Like I said earlier, I can do an IPB tutorial that would include V4 but you have to remember that, in order to use all the shader nodes for V4 you have to have P6 or P7.  She'll work in P5 and the P4 ProPack but you won't get the variations in the skin texture.

As for learning how to create skin textures, the best tutorial out there is available here in the MP and it's by btSculptor.  It's for the Unimesh characters but once you get the hang of it, moving to V4 is a snap.   This is the one I used to learn how to create skin textures.

No, I don't need a tutorial for IPB or character texturing... I only need an answer for my 2 questions....

Well shoot! I have INJ pose builder version 1.0 lol, seems to work alright but it takes a heck of a long time to load V4.
I'll have to get her all squared away and make some characters for her now. Thanks for the help everyone!
And Victoria Lee, if you decide to make a tutorial for the IPB and V4, please let me know cuz I would be grateful for the info on working with the new generation of characters :)

I just do it by hand using notepad.

Victoria_Lee ( ) posted Sun, 17 December 2006 at 5:35 PM

There's an update for IPB on the DAZ update page to 1.5.  If you can't find it, let me know and I'll send it to you since it's a free update.  I use 1.5 so that's the one I'll be using in the tut, which will include pictures.

Sorry Victoria, looks like I'll need a copy of that link, can't seem to find it out of all of the other updates lol
Thanks!

Spyder, if you bought your IPB from DAZ, just reset your download.  It will come in with the IPB 1.5.

Spyder, if you are only using the stock morphs that come with V4 for your character you dont need injection pose builder. You can save a Morph Pose directly in Poser which will save all of your morphs automatically. FantastArt, yes you could use those hide pose dials(and yes that is exactly what they are for, to hide the dials, they are created to go with the REM poses) to hide your morph dials once created but it would probably be easier to delete all the unhide poses from the pose file you create. in IPB

I tried but it wouldnt let me, something about how the information is no longer on the server. shrug Not the first time it's happened, I had the same thing happen when I was in the platinum club and went for the new Zicc robot model, if it's over a year, they wont reset it.
Guess that keep's the peer to peer thieves from getting the newer stuff when they never bought it in the first place. Makes sense, but its a pain in the arse if you ask me.
I'll just work with v1 and see what happens. Thanks anyways!

wdupre - I am using the stock morphs to make a character, but if I want to export it and sell it with a made texture, I have to find some way of stripping the information to make a INJ/REM set, and this is the best I have, like i said earlier, I'm no good at doing it by hand.

Spyder, no with V4 you dont need to use injections to distribute as long as you are using the stock morphs(in fact you cant use injections for the stock morphs for the simple reason that they aren't injection morphs). this is a new feature of V4 that it will save all morph settings in a pose file including full body morphs. all you have to distribute is the morph pose. the only reason injection poses were necessary in the mil 3 figures was becouse the base morphs came as injection poses, this is no longer true.

I created an INJ pose now for my new V4 character, because I'm use to it now from my V3 characters and I didn't know that it's not neccesary. It works well and was as easy as for V3. In facet it was exactly the same procedure. So how do I hide the morph dials now? Do you mean I only have to delete the unhide poses in edit pad? And how do I get the files shown in this premade folders. Does it make sense to put them there anyway?
Thank you for your help!

wdupre ( ) posted Mon, 18 December 2006 at 1:16 AM · edited Mon, 18 December 2006 at 1:18 AM

well V4 doesnt have hidden dials in the first place so the unhide poses won't do anything you will still want to get rid of them if you want to hide your dials, what those injection poses are doing is exactly what a standard pose would do, set the dial settings, nothing more. what you can do is go through your pose and add a line after the name of the morph that just says hidden 1 it will look sort of like this. valueParm FBMBodyBuilder { name FBMBodyBulder hidden 1

Thank you wdupre, I'll try this!

WillNC ( ) posted Sat, 27 January 2007 at 9:01 AM

Ok here goes.....I have created a new figure for the market place but not sent it in yet. The reason being is that I have noticed the alot of the V4 characters when injected place the name of the character in the Par Dials in the Community section. Does the new version of IPB do this or is there some special process for doing this. This will be my first total character pack and wish it to be not only nice but use the standard way of injecting and removing the standard morphs. Also just incase is it a requirement in the MP to for the injection to do this?

Thanks WillNC
