Subject: V4 vs Sydney Challenge

StealthWorks ( ) posted Sun, 17 December 2006 at 11:20 AM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 1:46 PM

There's so many threads comparing V4 to Sydney that I thought it may be fun to do a challenge based on that.

How's about posting your best Syndey or your best V4 character faces to see which one looks the most realistic and beautiful. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but hopefully the diveristy of faces will give the rest of us a clearer idea of which is the most versatile figure.

Note to make this fair there should be NO postwork but using textures and lighting is OK (after all thats were most of the skill comes in when using the raw Poser package). Also I think we should restrict to using only Sydney base and V4 plus the Morphs++ pack ( Lets face it V4 has no real face morphs out-of-the-box so we would be restricted to one face for her).

This hopefully will be a chance to stretch our creativity as well as giving those that are considering whether invest in another character the chance to see whats possible.

Maybe later we could do one to show off the body (although this will be harder as character realism  and shape will vary depending on the poses). But maybe just the face for now.

What do you think - any takers for the challenge?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sun, 17 December 2006 at 11:38 AM

I like the idea.

So can we use the Face Room on Sydney?

Yes, the face room is fine since that is where Sydneys face morphs are (correct me if I'm wrong though since I don't have Poser 7).

Oh and lets not have loads of discussions on which is superior based on Mesh density and joint parameters etc. (since I don't understand all that anyway!).  The proof is in what can be achived so put your money where your mouth is and lets see whats possible with just the included (or in V4s case the add-on) morph pack

Have fun and lets see what you can do with those gals!

OK I'll start the ball rolling with my V4 morph. (Maybe she's sad because she knows Sydney might give her a run for her money!)

Rendered in P6 with the standard light set-up and using the Wet Maps Texture pack available at DAZ3D.

Ok I'll play :)

Here's Sydney morphed in the face room, where I also tweaked her texture and added a blush overlay.  Freckles painted in postwork.

Thanks to Trekkie I've got her eyes looking normal!

Oh, and click on the image to see original size, this board does a horrendous job of resizing and compressing shudder

arcady ( ) posted Sun, 17 December 2006 at 8:06 PM

That Sydney is amazing, save that this contest said no postwork. :) But even if I ignored the freckles I think it would beat almost every V4 I've seen so far.

Thanks arcady, oops, I didn't even see that we weren't allowed to postwork!  Oh well, it's just a few pixels :)

But ok, just to play fair, here's one of V4 with no postwork.

Btw, I've uploaded the three Sydney faces to freestuff, they should show up within 48 hours.

arcady ( ) posted Sun, 17 December 2006 at 9:18 PM

Are you using the morph brush - create? I find it too 'impactful'

I try to set it very low, but the slightest touch and the figure is growing horns out of the lips, cheeks, or wherever I try from. Hopefully someone will write a tutorial on it .

I find that setting the magnitude to .01 or .001 makes it easier to work with. Also, with some exceptions, "relative to: screen" gives better results than "relative to: surface".

Lucie ( ) posted Mon, 18 December 2006 at 1:30 PM

Here's a quick render of V4 I did yesterday, hardly morphed, I just used one of the character presets (sorry I can't remember which one...) with a setting of about 0.6, the texture is the Standard by Daz...  I hope I'm doing this right, not used to posting images on  the forum...

Amazing work folks but I wonder whether the lack of Sydney entries is saying something about her capabilities compared to V4 hmm?  (then again maybe the P7 users are too busy exploring the new package)
Lucie - this is AMAZING. If I hadn't bought V4 before,  this would seriously make me consider it. BTW, if you ever do remember which character morph you used I'd love to know - this face is perfect for a render I have in mind.

Thanks everyone for posting - but please keep them coming :-)

These pictures help to figure better out what Sydney really looks like :)

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 18 December 2006 at 2:18 PM

I suspect a lot more people bought V4 than bought P7.  And some of those who did buy P7 are probably waiting for physical delivery.

Just to add a little something different to this white-girl party. :)

This is Sydney, made in the face room and a little morph brushing.

This render wasn't done for focusing on the face. I might go back and do a face shot for the thread here.

StealthWork, I just checked, it's the Lisa morph in the character presets, I didn't put the dial completely to 1 though, I liked it better with a lower setting.

Tried playing with the Lisa dial as suggested but it didn't come out anywhere as well as yours. Oh well guess thats where the skill comes in !!!

This is the first pretty face I've dialed with V4, she takes some getting used to.  Nothing with Sydney yet, but I do like her, so I'll try and do one up as soon as I get some time.

Great work so far, everyone!

Here is a render of Sydney, unfortunately not very hi q. I have done a few adjustments in the Face room to make her head a bit rounder. She looks a bit like Miki now.

Pjz99, I really like your set up and render!  Is that both characters?

kimber89 ( ) posted Wed, 20 December 2006 at 1:39 PM

Nothing artsy-fartsy, I wanted to try and see if I could get V4's face to look similar to Kalypso's Sydney.
I'm a novice/newb so I know it's not perfect and someone with a more experiance & skill could do a much better job!

I am really digging Syndey so far. I just got a chance to play with her tonight. This is her straight out of the box with her "ultimate" textures from the material room. I haven't given V4 a fair opportunity yet. I am sure they will both be very nice in their own way. It seems like DAZ characters get more vendor support than Poser characters. We'll see...

LaVonne ( ) posted Wed, 20 December 2006 at 9:24 PM

file_363167.jpg

OK, I was playing with V4. She's got some other great qualities. I find her facial structure to be more well suited for younger women or fairies. Her pupils are WAY too big for my tatste and need adjustments.

I guess I like both of them, it would just depend on the nature of my render as to which one I would decide to use.

Sydney has a "kick-ass" look about her. V4 looks rather young & naive.

Just my opionion!

Damsel ( ) posted Wed, 20 December 2006 at 9:42 PM

Wow...great work LaVonne! Here is one I'm working on now. Hopefully she'll be finished by the weekend. She finally made it through IPB. :-) For Vicky 4 Complete.

I know this is a V4 / Sydney Party… but this HiRes-Jessi wanted to crash.

This is the standard P6 HiRes-Jessi with extensive face morphs.

No Post Work !!!

I think She could give both V4 and Sydney a run for the money.

I am working on a new project using Jessi. If anyone else is using Jessi and would like to compare notes, send me a message.

Wow kimber89!  Now that's an idea!  It's very very close too :) Was this done using V4's morphs or did you also morph her yourself?

Lyne ( ) posted Thu, 21 December 2006 at 1:55 AM

I came in to find out WHO Sydney IS ... ah.. P7... nope.. don't have it... LOVE my P6.3 just fine and my V4 is doing well.... was busy with something else but did want to do a close up portrait of her from my latest gallery image....

I never liked the figures that came with poser, just my own opinion.

Thank you Kalypso! I morphed her myself using the regular V4 morph dials...alot of them :))). No other morphing tools like D-Former or Poser (I can't for the life of me figure that program out) and I don't think I used any preset character dials...I'll have to look again.
