NO, a 2d image can't be changed into a 3d object, unless you get some extremely expensive photgrammetry software. You can create vector shapes in PS though and import them in Vue to be used with 3d text. The vector shape will be used as splines to create the outer shape of a 3d object when used with the 3d text editor. Provided you use Vue 6 Infinite, not 5.
Adobe Illustrator could do this(lots of $$$ involved) but you would need a modeling program that could handle it(as AI would create a vector item as Bruno has stated) - Wings 3d(free) I know can. You would do an outline of the item you wanted then import into a modeling program to refine it. It's quite tedious. You'd be better off using a billboard, in this case, unless of course you are versed in modeling.
I think you could import your bitmap image into the terrain editor and create a 3D object there.

Any suggestions gratefully received. I am new to Vue, although I have used Photoshop for a long time to produce artworks. I am trying to import a fairly complex shape (a tangle of tentacles) created in photoshop as a layer into a scene in vue infinite. Ideally I was hoping there might be a way to make this a 3d object? Is there a programme that would automate this process? Or is this impossible? Or is it a better idea to integrate this shape after the vue scene has been rendered, and imported into photoshop?
