Subject: Splitting older bloated runtime for P7 - any utilities to help?

leather-guy ( ) posted Thu, 04 January 2007 at 10:00 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 12:19 AM

Well, after putting it off thru P5, P6, and now P7, I'm finally going to try splitting my old P4/PP single (52Gig) runtime up into multiples - Anyone know of a utility that could transfer the geometries and textures into the appropriate runtimes if I manually split the libraries up?  as much bloat as I have, doing it all manually is not an option - Any python scripts or such out there?

Commercial or free - either would be appreciated. . .

There is actually no need to split up the geometries and textures (there are even advantages to have them all in one huge flat directory, avoids duplicates and indicates potential conflicts).
The way I have set it up is one geometry and one texture directory (in the P5 runtime).
Everything else is split over 9 runtimes at the moment (including one used as a temporary staging one). Things are moved around as required. For me CRPro is the best tool ever as it allows me to move things around and have all references fixed automatically.

jfbeute: do you mean if I put all the geometries and textures in Poser 6 runtime I could have the libraries in various other runtimes??? I am still reorganizing all my Poser stuff and if that is the case it would be very useful to me but I have to be sure I understand correctly before I do the change. ;o)

My system is to have one big texture and geometries runtime for all the new stuff, but I kept the old P4-7 folders unchanged. There is a bit of duplication but I figured it is easier when service releases come that expect things to live in the same place in the install directories.

I'll bite my tongue and won't say what I think about EF's wisdom on sticking with this system.

Ok, so I could have a runtime apart from the Poser 6 runtime that would contain all my geometries and textures then have different runtimes for the libraries stuff for all the categories?

Yes, you just need to keep search depth set to at least shallow as none won't leave the current runtime.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what that means. ;o(

Edit -> General Preferences -> Library -> File Search. It's set to deep by default, so just ignore my comment ;-)

leather-guy - I've heard Pbooost II, by hogsoft, is the tool.  I guess it like a WIndows Explorer borswer.  I hear if you click on the thmbnail for say a .CR2; and move it, then Pbooost will automatically move all of the geometries, textures etc. as well.  I think it works for MATs, and the like too.

Angelouscuitry - I've got that already -  Once I finish setting up my new PC, I'll install it and check out the newer features.
Thanks for the tip . . .

Once you get P Booost II set up, enjoy! You may want to hunt up the freebie version of Correct Reference, or spring for the Pro version. What that one does is scan the entire runtime, and find all the incorrect pathnames, paths with syntax errors, and gives you the list to correct (it can fix things itself, but I wouldn't recommend it, as once it makes an error, it is a pain to dig back out). This really cuts down on the time Poser searches for some resources, and makes things work much easier with external apps like Vue, that depend on accurate pathnames to find resources.
