To breath in, scale the abdomen in z up a bit and to breathe out scale it down the same amount.

If you want to automate regular breathing (along with blinking
and other 'live' movements) try my Naturalizer script.

rememnber that breathing is an emotional thing as well... how we breathe is defined by the way we're feeling at the time. some people always use their diaphragm for breathing, and so the above methods should work. Others, especially when ervous or anxious, tend to only breathe from the upper part of their bodies - the shoulders rise, and the belly does very little movement. Think about what kind of character you're protraying, and what emotional state they're in. This will also help you to decide how often they're going to breathe. For background characters, or ones who are not involved in the action a great deal, then ockhams naturalizer script is great. If they're the 'hero' character, though, it's better to animate it byt hand. That way, you can put the breathing in at the required points, which tend to be a little more erratic - at the beginning of sentences, for examples, or in rectino to another character.

Ribs would also scale slightly in X for a completely accurate look of a deep breath.

Thank you all and thank you Ockham for the script.  You all are a wealth of information.

Also if you are using  the DAZ figures, they  have an inhale morph.  You could turn that morph on
and off to simulate breathing.
