Subject: [I NEED HELP!] Poser 7 No Disk Error!

deano232 ( ) posted Wed, 24 January 2007 at 4:31 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 11:36 AM

Ok im due a project soon which i am creating on Poser 7.
I added a few props to use in the project and when i tried to load the prop on Poser 7 into my scene this message came up:

I reinstalled Poser but i still get the same message.
Iv tried deleting the props i added and adding different ones incase it was them particular props, but again when i tried to load some of the props i added, i got the above error.
The error only appears when i try to add some props that I have added.

I need help as soon as possible because iv already created most of my project on Poser 7 and have used the Talk Designer so i wont be able to finnish it on an earlier version. :(

Iv been told it may be a problem with my hard drive? All i can say about my hard drive is this:
- SAMSUNG SP1604N/R  (160 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133) -
and im running Windows.

Any help is much appreciated!***

Larry-L ( ) posted Wed, 24 January 2007 at 5:18 PM

The error message indicates you are trying to load from a disk; but your message indicates you are trying to load from your hard drive.  How did you install the prop?

YngPhoenix ( ) posted Wed, 24 January 2007 at 5:23 PM

deano232, It doesn't look like it has anything to do with your hard drive unless you're using an external hard drive for your Poser content(such as new characters, clothing, props,etc....). If that is the case then you could try moving the props into the main runtime-libraries-props location and see if that cures the problem.

nruddock ( ) posted Wed, 24 January 2007 at 5:40 PM

Check the item you tried to load for absolute paths (to textures probably).

As a quick workaround, if you have a CD or DVD drive put any disk in and the message should go away (unless the bad path is referring to the floppy drive which seems unlikely).

deano232 ( ) posted Wed, 24 January 2007 at 6:49 PM · edited Wed, 24 January 2007 at 6:52 PM

thanks for replying. I have tried putting a disk in, it lets me use poser a little longer without the error message coming up, but it still comes up.

The props i downloaded where in a ZIP file so i moved the files to the correct locations -runtime-libraries-props etc..
Im not using an external hard drive, i only have the one hard drive which the content is on and all of the content is saved in the main runtime-libraries-props location.

One thing i don't think iv installed right are the textures. I have moved the textures around into new folders in the -runtime-textures-..... to organize them, im not sure if that could be the problem.

Thanks again for the replys.

EDIT: sorry if this was posted in the wrong section!
I have just joined so havn't really looked around the forums fully.

YngPhoenix ( ) posted Wed, 24 January 2007 at 7:08 PM

deano232, No need to be sorry as you've posted in the correct section.  Poser 7 is still in its' first stages and should become less problematic when the next service releases become available. Try putting the textures into the recomended location as stated in the readme or you can usually go by how the runtime is set up when you unzip the file. I hope you get it worked out.

Inspired_Art ( ) posted Wed, 24 January 2007 at 7:18 PM

This is happening to my machine also.  Try running Adaware (check for spyware, etc)
Try seaching for "Windows - No Disk" on google. From my understanding downloading and running a program called  HijackThis should solve the problem

Thanks alot for everyone who replied. I still have the problem but if this is any help..

When the "Windows-No Disk" error is up, i went into the Windows Task Manager and clicked on applications, i right clicked on the Windows - No Disk error and clicked on go to processes.. The process which is highlighted is - csrss.exe -

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 11:09 AM

Have you successfully used that prop before? If not,t hen I'd say it's most likely (like nruddock said) a problem in the file, with a bad reference pointing to a drive YOU do not have (but the creator did)

So open the pp2 in wordpad and look for any file references.

Yeh i have used the prop successfully on Poser 6 and at that time i had all the same drives as i do now. Iv done some searching on google and people have had problems like this with other programs. People have said to run a scan on HijackThis.
I ran a scan and heres the Logfile if anyone can make anything of it :)

csrss.exe is an important system file (see attached link).

You need to be looking in the prop file(s) bad texture paths.
It seems likely that there is one (or more) referring to whatever drive letter your CD/DVD drive is (D: probably), so the easiest way to find the troublesome path(s) is to search for that (or "" as Poser format paths should only use ":" as the separator).

deano232 ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 4:35 PM

thanks for the help.

i don't understand fully what to do :S
My DVD drive is D:..but what do you mean by "search for that (or "" as Poser format paths should only use ":" as the separator)"
sorry im not too good at understanding things lol

jefsview ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 5:09 PM

I've ran into this a few times, and it's a BAD PATH FILE REFERENCE or Absolute File Reference written in the prop. I had a hellava time with it, until I ran my Poser File Organizer utility from Dimension3d. After a few runs throughs through the folders, it seemed to clear it up. Many items one downloads are written incorrectly, or are not cleaned up for distribution, including merchandise within this very store, RMP. There is another utility called Correct Reference (I don't have it, and don't have the link handy) that might be able to help you out.

I still don't know how to do these manually myself and must rely on utilities to clean up these irritating messes. But I do know that Poser File Organizer will work, or has for me in the past.

It's not Poser's problem, since I tested one of my old corrupted versions in P7 and it acted like P6. It's in the path file of the content itself.

Try out one of these utilities and help yourself out. And in the meantime, try a prop that isn't from in the same folder, i.e. from the same maker.

nruddock ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 5:14 PM

(Sorry about the double backslash the forum software usually messes with them)

The material blocks in Poser files usually contain lines like this one (a relative path) :-
    textureMap ":Runtime:textures:aDirectory:aTexture.jpg"

sometimes the "real" location of the file on the creator's machine ends up in the file, e.g.
    textureMap "D:SomeDirectoryAnotherDirectoryRuntimetexturesaDirectoryaTexture.jpg"

When Poser tries to load the texture if the path is like the above (an absolute path) it attempts to access the drive and directory mentioned, which very likely won't exist on anyone else's machine.
If the drive is a CD or DVD drive that doesn't have a disk in, Windows will complain.

What you need to do is edit the file to change the absolute path into a relative one.
The easiest way to find absolute paths is to search for ""s in the file, as the only time they are present is when there is a problem with a texture path.

nickedshield ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 7:49 PM

An alternative search is use textureMap, then read the whole line because a folder can be mis-named even though the path is correct.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Inspired_Art ( ) posted Sat, 27 January 2007 at 11:14 AM

Also, if you purchase CorrectReference Pro from Hogsoft, it will automatically correct any bad file references, which is what you appear to have....
