Anyone see this when using AO in Poser 7. IBL AO or just AO with any light causes these faint lines in the shadow areas. The lines exactly define the bucket size that I use (16)

You can only see them in the shadow areas? It’s the hole render in my monitor. Les noticeable outside the Shadow areas. I would get bucket lines some times in P6 AO or not. EF never gave a answer other than something is wrong with my PC?

Can You reproduce the effect at a different bucket size. And what are the Specifications of your computer.

Yup....bucket size 32. They are not as obvious...but still there. I only notice it in the shawdows. ASUS, Intel, ATI 9600XT, P4, 2M8hz, runs video rendering software no problem.

These are artefacts from the irradiance cache. What is the irradiance cache quality in the render settings set to? You could try increasing it and see if the lines go away. Also, the irradiance cache is less efficient when you're rendering only a small fraction of a large scene. For example, this being just a 5cm bolt in a 200m wide bridge would be such a case. If you have things outside the visible scene that are comparably large (including the ground plane), hiding them can improve things significantly.

Thanks Stewer.....that appears to be the case. Increasing the IC "smooths" out or removes the blotchiness of AO shawdows. A bit of a resource hog so save the higher value IC's for final renders. The example pic shows AO with 0% IC to 100%IC

Thanks again....

I experienced the same thing, but I when I lowered my rendering quality settings they went away but things still looked grainy.  So I will have to try this, increasing the IC.  Thanks!

Depth map shadows are probably set on individual lights in the first image.  You might try switching to raytraced shadows for each light.

Actually using only one IBL with AO, no shadows enabled. All other lights turned off.
