Subject: Suggested Gallery Policy (nudity)

Just had my first TOS gallery rejection for "child nudity". A clearly adult woman with huge breasts and massive thighs. A friend pointed out to me that her eyes may have been too big or her head not in the right proportion to her body.  Do me a faviour, it was an anime character.

Above is a suggested guideline for my new  "PRAT" policy, (Purely Rotund or Aged Tarts)
(I hope Rendo takes this with the intended humour it deserves).

Here's the thumbnail I went with for my most recent pic. I'm also going to leech onto forum threads and hopefully get more hits and comments that way. Why not? That's the way professional publicists get more attention for whatever product they're flacking. While others have left, I come for the controversy. It's in my blood. Without it, I go elsewhere and post pics of women being horribly tortured. I'm just that kind of guy, with a sick sense of humor. :O)

My opinion on all the banned pictures/thumbnails is that I have no problems with the site having some standards for want they want and don't want, they are just horrible at implementing them and continually shoot themselves in the foot by insulting contributors and customers of the site in doing so. There's a right and wrong way to do anything and management here is clueless in that regard.

And as far as setting priorities go and professionalism, how about having site software that doesn't continually crash my browser?

ashley9803 ( ) posted Tue, 30 January 2007 at 4:01 AM · edited Tue, 30 January 2007 at 4:03 AM

Don't want to turn this into a "bash Rendo" thread.
Just can't understand their implementation of their TOS.
Can't see anything in my gallery post that could possibly violate the TOS.
If it was the head, then all Aiko characters would fall foul to this policy.
I think we need some clear guidelines, ie, percentage of eye size in relation to head size, or acceptable proportion of head size to body size.
Let's say eyes represent no more than 5% of head size, or head must be 1/20th of body size.
You can see where it's all going, downhill with hell in a basket. Where it belongs.

The solution is simple..... ban all nudity.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Maybe I've been lucky in that I've never had interest in the anime head style or depicting anything that might resemble an underager.

From personal experience at having had pictures removed, never here except by me cause they weren't going over, it's often just a case of the wrong person having their finger on the button at the wrong time. I think most artists have a pretty good idea what is cool under any given TOS and try to comply.

As for bashing Rendo, hey if it'll increase my hit counts and comments, I'm all for it. Bash me if you like, it doesn't matter. Just do it on one of my renders. Things like "It could use more nudity," or "Her breasts aren't large enough," could be very helpful to me in my continued quest to waste time.

ashley9803 ( ) posted Tue, 30 January 2007 at 5:10 AM

As far as bashing Renderosity goes, I won't do it
They have been a great vector for hundreds (or thousands) of artists.
I'll just play their game and delete what they don't like.
I just  thought I knew what was cool to post, and what was allowed and what was not.
It's their call.

fls13 ( ) posted Tue, 30 January 2007 at 5:20 AM

"I just  thought I knew what was cool to post, and what was allowed and what was not."

Exactly. Nobody puts time into a render and posts it somewhere they know it's going to be deleted by management. And its' usually by some itchy-trigger-finger stooge/incompetent that does the deleting or overreacts to some jackass' complaint.

Images are reviewed by a panel of staff and removed, or not, on a majority decision.

None of us enjoy removing images.

As a general rule our eyes do not change in size from 1 year old to 100 year's old.

Realistic adult head is 5 eyes wide 7 heads tall.

Babies 5 x 5ish eyes.

Realistic adult body is about 6 heads tall.

Babes 3 heads tall.

Realistick adults legs 3 heads tall

Babys 1 head tall.

DC,Marvel comics our 8 heads tall

Image comics males our 9 heads tall.

They don't tell me every time they do this :-) But I can think offhand of at least 2 occasions in the last 6 months that I'm personally aware of.

(The amount of warnings given in a month would normally be anywhere between 10 and 25, just to put it in perspective. Average gallery uploads per month: around 18,000.)

No, don't do that. I've actually learned a couple things through this thread, about the thumbnail policy, I didn't read the fine print and did it wrong, had the pic pulled, fixed the thumbnail, pic went back up. That's good.

Also found out that there's an appeal policy if you disagree with a deletion decision. These things are good to know.

I had written on a thumbnail image for a new work: "This thumb does not show what is not allowed: a nude Vicky in a temple. No swords were harmed during the creation of this image."

The thumb was removed for being "censor-like".

Say what you will, Karen, but this is beyond what was intended, namely the protection of people who have time to browse the net at work and may not be caught red-handed looking at nude pixels. I was so shocked that I deleted my entire gallery as a few other thumbs would probaly get the same kind of treatment. If censorship goes that far, I'll go elsewhere. No more buying from us from the marketplace either.

Meanwhile I got mail, asking me not to give in, and reopen my gallery, but under these conditions, I don't know whether I can.

Thank you Ashley, I am 34 years old in a couple of months and feeling all of them this last week ;-)

Gongyla: again, people are focusing on one reason for the change. Censor-like thumbnails do not advance consistency across the site, nor a professional image.

I am sorry you felt you "had to" delete your gallery, but confess I can't understand why the requirement to provide a thumbnail that doesn't show breasts, buttocks or genitals, nor text that effectively states "come on in for all the nudity", would motivate you to do so. :-(

No really.  I want to know exactly what the difference is.  I'm not kidding.*

One is a standard, unsensationalist thumbnail which states "Content Advisory" and does not contain the words "contains nudity" (unless you refer to the nudity flag itself?) The other appears unprofessional and is inconsistent with policy across the rest of the site.

Gongyla, I'm sorry to hear you feel that way.

David, if more decisions were overturned by Admin, that would mean that the mod and coord team were making wrong decisions more often... Which would definitely not be a good thing.

Yes, I meant the nudity tag.  And no personal offense, but that answer is silly because all you've said is that Renderosity's "Come on in for all the nudity" tag is better based on some nebulous concept of "professional".

And, according to the merits of the case, she was most definitely in the right. (First of all, she wasn't driving, she was a passenger, and the car had stopped to let her open the the lid of the coffee mug to put milk in.) McDonalds was serving the coffee at a good 12 degrees C above the normal, hot enough, in fact, to cause 2nd degree burns. People sometimes spill coffee on themselves, and people who serve coffee should be aware of the fact, and not serve coffee that is not only too hot to drink, but dangerously hot. McDonalds was serving the coffee so hot because it was, in some way, more convenient for them. They were not only aware of the burn potential, but had settled out of court in a number of cases.

Maybe OT, but this bizarre thought occured to me.

Child Porn laws are supposedly in place to protect children.

If I do a nude rendering of a child, as far as I calculate, no child was harmed int he process.

If someone does a  nude rendering of an adult, but takes photos of a naked child as the texture, not only is a child getting hurt, but that person would be able to pass that off on any 3D site without anyone banning or complaining.

As I said, this is a bit OT.  This isn't about the Rendo rules on thumbnails, just a general thought about the laws that are supposed to protect our children.  It's a sick world and unfortunate that we even have to spend so much time worrying about such things.

(I'm flagging this post as the very idea is offensive.)

I just saw a post to the gallery of a semi-nude girl about to be dissected tortured by a masked man.
Maybe he/she will get a TOS violation warning, don't know.
And I don't really want ANY pictures censored here. It's just my personal view of things.
But it's funny how sadistic violence seems to be permitted (possibly), but Aiko characters with heads which might be considered as "child like", whatever that means, are a no-no.
Just another thing I can't understand about this site.
