Am I the only one who's tiered of only finding sexy and sassy clothing for my 3d people? Am I the only boring person here? ;-)

thefixer ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 5:05 AM

Nope!
Personally I'd like to see more of the futuristic and / or warrioress type outfits for V4 and Sydney, but haven't found much except over at Xurge's place!

Injustice will be avenged.

I want clothes from 1880 to ca 1910. I'm not making pornography or erotic pictures.

ashley9803 ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 5:23 AM

Here's my 2p worth.
Every-day streetware. The clothes you'd wear to the pub on a Saturday afternoon.
Seems we all want different things.

svdl ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 5:40 AM

There's some dynamic clothes for V4 coming up in freestuff. The package does contain some sexy stuff, but also an ordinary blouse and skirt, such as could be worn in an office.

Try Poserworld for best selection of clothes for all figures.

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 5:48 AM

i did try poserworld. I found no items under historical for M3 for instance. Maybe I did something wrong? I'm not going to subscribe to poserworld. I do not have the 65 dollars to do that.

lemur01 ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:07 AM

@dyret

The best way to search PoserWorld is to look under the character you are planning to use. Recent uploads for Mike3 included a set of 1800's work clothes.

I, too, would like to see much more in the way of historical costume and more day to day clothes.

stormchaser ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:09 AM

**Yes, I'd like to see some period clothing, would be interesting. I'm like you thefixer, I like the futuristic/warrioress type clothing. Xurge do some great outfits, but I think they would be better if they were dynamic.
dyret - If you've got V4 there's some new casual clothing over at Daz, only $1.99 if you're a member. I don't have these but there is a classy look to the top which could be of interest:

I'm not a platinum member. But I got daz's new teen age caracter because of her casual clothing. top, pants and sneakers. plus nice looking hair. The caracter itselv could easily go as a child so that could be useful i guess. But i need victorian looking clothes actually from vitorian to the gangster area reallly

stormchaser ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:33 AM

I must admit it's at times like this I'm glad I'm a PC member. I didn't intend to buy Teen Ashley but I was interested in the hair. With the discounts of being a member plus my free $5.00 monthly voucher I've just bought the character plus the hair for only $2.82. Now that's a bargain. I just hope the hair looks good in Vue!

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:39 AM

The texture doesnt look good in poser. It has a plastic quality to it. Me... I like the hi-res v4 texture. But then I must confess to beeing a bit of a red-head fan. Excuse my English. My spelling sometimes comes out bad. Like "sassy" ;-) I'm from Norway som just hoping you people understand me.

stormchaser ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:49 AM · edited Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:51 AM

dyret - Firstly, your English is very good. I've found that alot of non English people actually speak better English than those who were born here! I guess this is because you were taught the proper language, over here there is so much slang & local dialects that the true language can sometimes be lost. Just an observation.
Anyay, regarding the texture, I'll give this a test later. I do generally render in Vue so this will be more of a concern for me in this program.

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:53 AM

Ah... Someone who cares about language! Allways a good thing. Vue just seems like such a HUGE landscape to cover for me. I'm having enough trouble gettting to know the interface of Poser 7. Never mind my new music-sequencer!!!!

stormchaser ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 7:58 AM

dyret - If you can find a trial version of Vue, give that a go. It's like any other program really, a bit daunting at first but you'll soon get into it. If you really want landcaspes to go with your Poser figures, this is a great program. I like Poser's lighting but I find with Vue you can create really good outdoor renders.

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 8:02 AM

I'm actually doing a music project(for YEARS) so I find that this 3d thing just makes me just wanting to sit and make up the videos for my music instead of making the music itself.

By the way. Like your nick Stormchaser. Singing "Coming out of nowhere driving like rain. Stormbringer dance on the thunder again..." Just reminded me of that old Deep Purple song

stormchaser ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 8:10 AM · edited Sat, 24 February 2007 at 8:11 AM

dyret - Once you become really good at 3D you can produce a movie to go with a song you've made, now that would be really creative!!
Regarding my name Stormchaser, although I do like storms it actually comes from my days of watching the Manchester Storm, an ice hockey team that used to play here. Those were the days, watching a great game with a few fights (not me, the players) & then off a for a few beers afterwards.

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 8:17 AM

Aha... Now for the hockey. Not my thing. But beer.... That's a completely different story. I'm so lucky  as to live in the town wich who's brewery makes the best beer. Some would even call it the best in the world. Me myself (and I) have not visited whole of the world. Eh... Now I'm reminded of another song. "Ramble on" by Led Zeppelin. hm... Think I'll skip dinner and get a few beers instead.  My nick, by the way(long and winding) means "The Animal" or "The Beast". Wich I'm not.

ockham ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 9:04 AM

Dyret: Part of the problem, of course, is that most people want clothing
to be 99.999% Nude.

I've never understood that impulse; if they want nude, why not just plain nude?

Another part is that 1860's - 1890's clothing is very complicated.  Petticoats,
hoop skirts, vests, smoking jackets, weskits ....  all harder to make than
a 99.999% naked thong.   You should consider making your own.  It's
relatively easy now, with lots of tools available, and it's also lots of fun.

And what is the world's best beer?

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 9:09 AM

ockham.... That has been my exact thougts about the issue. I have actually seen naked people before so I don't need to MAKE them on my pc all the time. And putting naked people ine the scenes wich I'm doing for my music woul be simply stupid. Back streets of London 1880-1910 full of naked people!!! Now for making clothing.... I should really get on with music. Im trying to get the hang of the clothing room.

And.... I'm NOT among moste peolpe ;-)

Darboshanski ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 9:52 AM · edited Sat, 24 February 2007 at 9:54 AM

No you are not the only one that is fed up with sexy sassy clothes. There have been tons of posts and requests made here and in other forms for more natural everyday clothing and shoes. I agree with ashley on the street wear ( not hooker wear) and clothes you'd find people wearing to work, running errands, working around the house, etc

Maybe that is the key that these are just too complicated to make. Maybe it is indeed easier to have a strip of cloth around the top and enough of a strip to cover the bits. And I don't understand what 99.99% of nude is. I thought nude was nude sort of like being pregnant was being pregnant not being almost pregnant.

However, I will agree that modeling period clothing takes many hours of work and what the creator would have to charge to make worth wild people wouldn't pay the price for it. But, simple slacks, shorts, tanks, tees, sandals, sneakers, sun dresses, etc I don't see how complex they'd be. If some one can make kick butt pair of high heel sandals I would think it easy to make a pair of plain old flat leather thongs sandals. But this is only my opinion.

Here are some nice everyday stuff for V4 in case anyone was looking I have these and they have great possibilities texture wise:
Bolero set for V4
Casual for V4
Classic casual for V4
Cosmo dress for V4
Cosmo suit for V4

Cheers!

I must say that getting the teen ager Laura over at Daz was worth it because of the clothes in the bundle. simple top, pants and sneakers. Works well for any woman beacause of the morphs in the clothes

Hi dyret,

Norway is a beautiful country.  When I was there I visited Trondheim,  Tromso,  and Hel.  The sea,  mountains,  and aurora borealis at night were breath taking.  Someday,  I'd like to go back.  Sorry to go OT everyone.  Anyway,  if you post some pictures of what you would like,  maybe all of us modellers would be able to help you.

Cheers,

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 10:20 AM

Hel! Did you get so see the "godsekspedition"? pictures. hmm.... aha... well just a quick description for now.... Dresses for V4. suits for M3 and M4(whenever he arives) With the morphs so that the clothes fit without to much trouble. I'm really not good at fitting things. I have the eye for posing things but no patience with things that needs many small adjustments. Im finding myself using the p4 buisniss man and p3 skelleton in my animations because they're easy to pose

patorak ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 11:15 AM · edited Sat, 24 February 2007 at 11:20 AM

Yep,  I didn't get to see much though.  I was in the U.S. Marines and we were on an arctic training exercise with the Norwegian Army and the UK Royal Marines.  The first night up there my buddy Mouse burnt down our tent trying to light our yukon stove.  If it wasn't for the local townspeople taking us into there houses we would have frozen to death. They fed us good too,  the goat cheese and whale's tongue were great.  I'm still in debt to them for saving our lives.  How about as partial repayment I'd like to model something for you for free?

Cheers,
Patorak

P.S.  I did get a t shirt the says "I've been to Hel and back "LOL

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 11:20 AM

Free? aha.... hm.... I'm making a render of v4-v3(or was that the other way around?) with a v3 dress. Evn then the dress does'nt fit totaly. Never posted any pis here but I'll give it a try in a little while

patorak ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 11:28 AM

Absolutely free,  just post a picture or describe what you would like.  I'm not too good at vehicles though.  Also,  I don't have M3's morphs so you would probably have to use PhilC's Wardrobe Wizard to add the morphs.

Got it.  Here's what we are starting with.  Do we need Stacy 73 and Maveris's permission for this morph?  I think we should make this a full body morph,  what do you think?

patorak ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 1:23 PM

Hi dyret,

One more question.  Would you mind if we go through the process here in your post?  I was thinking we could do it like a step by step tutorial.  If not,  could you start a new post and we'll do it there.  Thanks.

Cheers,

Hi Everyone,

Before we begin this tutorial I would like to point out that Bloodsong has a similiar tutorial at
http://www.3dmenagerie.com/   it's under Goodies/Tutorials/Poser/Fitting Conformers to the Wrong Figure.  Also,  PhilC    http://www.philc.net/WardrobeWizard.htm  has greatly reduced the time this process takes with his Wardrobe Wizard.

Patorak. I've been out drinking a few beers. But NO. Go ahead with a tutorial. Also i was think, ing about the legal things but the net was down. So take this where ever you want it to go

patorak ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 6:04 PM

Thanks dyret.  I'll e mail Stacy 73 and Maveris for their permission.  Also,  I have to reinstall P5 and transfer everything to it.  P6 has a bug in the joint editor that causes the centers to fly around and this has really been slowing me down.  Anyway,  I contacted daz and got the low down on V4's spherical fall off zones.  I would like to post that as well.  In the meantime I'll continue working on your morph.

patorak ( ) posted Sat, 24 February 2007 at 8:44 PM

Staying on topic,  to answer your question,  it may lay in the fact that tight fitting clothes are easier to model and poserize due to the spherical fall off zones of the original figure.

Now on to the OT.  I'm still waiting on Stacy 73's and Maveris's permission.  So we'll start with the help I received from WillDupre over at DAZ.  I quote.

the inner falloff sphere for bend is very tight in the Y direction particularly on the underarm a few inches from the elbow, and the outer falloff sphere barely meets the inner at that position, any thickness at all in clothing will cause that spot to fall outside the two spheres. scaling up the Y on the inner falloff sphere slightly should fix your problem.

Here is a tip to see what is going on more clearly with falloff spheres. with the sphere selected go into Display>Element style and change the style to wireframe then do the same with the other sphere, this will turn your spheres into wireframes which will be a lot easier to see and see where they overlap on the clothing. unfortunately P6 has flakier joint editing tools than P5 (contrary to popular opinion I use P5 over P6 for this reason primarily) so you wont see the falloff spheres in color like you would in P5 which makes it a little harder to judge where they cross, also P6 has a maddening habit of making the centerpoint on the screen jump around as you change camera positons.  http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=784909   end quote.

If anyone would like I could post diagrams.

hmmm..I remember a dress like this for Dina, once upon a time. There was a site called (I think), Poser Fashion, that had period clothing from the 19th Century. Was probably for V3 and on back (there's been a lot of sites to keep straight..;) but the Wardrobe Wizard et al might be able to deal with that.

I know sex sells, but we got a glut of that in Poser.  I for one, want more practical fashions for my people.  It's not very good to try to show ordinary life BEFORE the aliens (pixies, face-huggers, brain-eaters, zombies, et al.) arrive and cause chaos, when everyone in the scene has on 'fetish-wear'!

My own personal preferences would be for every character to come with a long-sleeve shirt (with morphs or trans-map for tee-shirt), long pants like jeans with a couple of morphs for boot fits, and either boots or sneakers.  LOL--I know I'm wishing for the bloody moon on this, but I want what I want.

Naked is easy.  I just don't want the quick and easy path anymore.  I want variety!

As part of my Flea Film, I've been researching the Victorian Era in London and I can recommend the website Dictionary of Victorian Londn www.victorianlondon.org for sets there some nice ideas on the Dulux site.

For those suggesting that skimpy clothing is always good, I have one word for you.... Borat!

Andy: what is "skimpy"???? sorry I'm Norwegian.

My Norwegian dictionary says gjerrig, gnien, knegen / snau, trang
The English dictionary says "containing little excess" or "Insufficient".
For example a skimpy dress would be short, have narrow straps and a low front / back and showing lots of flesh.

Here's an example from www.angryalien.com

dyret ( ) posted Sun, 25 February 2007 at 6:34 AM

andy... i thought so. Your Norwegian dictionary's translations made me laugh.  But now I KNOW what you're talking about. I have now actually purchased the pharaoes of the sun over at DAZ and this dress seems promising to me. It's not at all skimpy. Or GNIEN(!) hehehehehe. Gnien usualy refers to a person beeing tight with his or her's money.

egaeus ( ) posted Sun, 25 February 2007 at 7:34 AM

I would also like to see more historical clothing AND more historical clothing from different class backgrounds.  There seems to be a lot of wealth worship going on in the 3D community.  That being said, how about instead of another mini skirt or impossibel /impractical "adventuress" ensemble, could someone create a realistic looking ruffled collar-style Renaissance outfit for Mike 3 or David, or Vicki 3 for that matter?  How about a non-ball gown style dress for 17th-19th century females?  Or if creators would like to work on one of those enormous dresses, how about going all out and making an ornate Elizabeth I gown? And most importantly, how about some realistic period HAIR?  For example, the only real example of the sort of ridiculously gigantic wigs worn by 17th and 18th century French nobility is Neftis' Pompadour hair.  Nice hair, but what if I want two women in the same scene?  They wouldn't both have the same hair style.

My feeling is that clothing creators are essentially making what they feel will sell best, so I don't imagine any of this will change soon.  But look at the popularity of the Aiko 3 Marie Antoinette gown from Runtime DNA.

A note to clothing creators:  If you build it, they will come.

Mike

egaeus ( ) posted Sun, 25 February 2007 at 7:38 AM

Oh, and I forgot to further suggest to those who make period clothing that you take a cue from Steve Shanks and Poserworld and put morphs other than body morphs in them.  More movement morphs than simple forward and backward and side to side would be nice.

Mike
