How do you remove the base of a terrain?  I was trying to do something from a Peter Sharpe tutorial and I can't remove the base the way he said to.  I tried raising the clipping bracket, but the base stays.  Why is that?

you need to click on the Terrain canvas at the icon next to the downward pointing triangle on the top right. This opens the terrain canvas even more.then you will see to the right a long gradient filled box  almost the length of the terrain canvas with a huge bracket to it's right.Click on that bracket and hold and push it up until the background in the canvas turns red.

This removes the 'base 'of the terrain.

What if the canvas doesn't turn red?

It SHOULD turn red..Can I get back to you with some pictures later I have to go offline for a while.

Sure, I'm sure that this is just something that I have to reset.  I restored to defaults again, but that didn't do it.

Drag your cursor upward in the area to the right of the gradient bar, not the gradient bar itself, and you will see the black areas being replaced by red as you are "clipping" the terrain, or lattice.

Excellent!!!  Thank you danamo.  I was wondering why it wasn't working the way it should have.

This time I think I know.  I had tbl with this when learning.   Put your pointer on the bracket itself, not the bar.

Don't worry about it skiwillgee, you tried to help and I thank you for it.

also if you pull the top bracket down anything white will turn yellow and it will flatten out those areas, like the whitest whites turn yeloow and will be flat not pointy.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

grasshopper1980 ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 5:16 PM

Ok, thanks, that might actually help with what I'm working on.

clay ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 5:18 PM

ohh also make sure if you do you use that function to set your terrain to solid otherwise anything that is yellow will "punch" a hole in the terrain.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!
