Subject: P7 Firefly Render is blank

ghoyle1 ( ) posted Sun, 04 March 2007 at 6:54 PM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 3:46 PM

I have P7 with the SP1 patch, and whenever I render with Firefly the result is a blank. Just the background color shows. Weird, huh? Any ideas?

Running a Pentium 4 CPU 2.66 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM, Windows XP SP2, NVIDIA GeForce 6200 256 megs DDR.

Thanks in advance,

Guy

allow Poser.exe and FFrender.exe in your firewall. (they use sockets to communicate when rendering which firewalls block)

Are you rendering a very simple scene. Just one prop. or maybe just woody. Super simple scenes are failing to render. Just add a figure and it should render.

Khai, that did the trick. Thanks!

hmmm now my firewall has let poser have access but still either blank or permant rendering issues.... this SR1 update is crap, and so far the worst poser update i have ever had, it has made my p7 useless... thanks EF

Right to make sure it wasnt anything like a firewall or antivirus i turned them off and rebooted without them... and still Poser 7 firefly renders blank, so there is nothing stopping it.... does anyone know if there is a solution to this.... as now im going to have to re-install P7 without the SR1 update..... grrrrrr

I've had this happen twice since SR1, once with Blu from 3DUniverse in a scene and once with a Particles 2 object in a scene. When I ticked the raytrace option, they rendered OK.

So far all other scenes have been OK so it sounds like what Nerd posted above regarding simple objects/figures.

I have tried rendering a simple sphere, then a cube, as well as V4 with trimmings and another with aiko3 all were blank...
my system specs are similar to those posted in the first comment...
im now about to re-install P7 and avoid SR1.... so no more saving in .jpg for me...lol

Another thing I've noticed: rendering a simple prop with Firefly produces blank renders but as soon as I uncheck Cast shadow it renders fine. Weird, huh?

have you tried turning off rendering in a seperate process?

shedofjoy ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 9:09 AM

i never had rendering in a seperate process on and i tried rendering with the basic options as well as with shadows etc on... and still no joy... i have now returned my P7 back to its JPG hating old pre SR1 self, at least it renders...lol
Perhaps SR2 will work.... or maybe P7 will be my downfall.... and i should wait till P8 lol

Rendering in a seperate process or not doesn't make a difference.

But that's not all, the Hardware shading enabled thingie isn't working properly either. Not that I expected it to be fully fixed but the new look is something else: load V4, apply a texture that uses shader nodes (ie the V4 Hi Res texture by DAZ or Alice by Aery Soul). Looks like this. Happens with clothing textures that are using shader nodes as well. I have to render once or only render a small part to make it look normal. But that can't be the solution.

And still P7 exchanges the transparency map with the texture map on some hair and I have no idea why it's doing this? Anyone else has this problem too? Not even applying the textures manually will help, it insists on using the texture map for transparency.

yeah, there has been one other report in P7X that SR1 screws up hardware shading. one needs to go into prefs and disable it, or switch to sreed, at least until sr2.

shedofjoy ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 11:15 AM

the hardware enabled shading worked fine for me, just blank renders.....
i will take SR2 with a pinch of salt... and now im on an SR1 diet and running my P7 as is
