It seems DAZ has released the 6.1 update.

From the DAZ email -- "This e-mail is to inform you that this product has been updated to Bryce 6.1! This update introduces MAC-Intel compatibility, as well as interface and control updates to the IBL lab, corrections to the included content, and many bug fixes, including fixes to the Bryce Lightning network render application. This update requires a full reinstall of the application."

schmoopy ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 4:36 PM

And DAZ's website immediately crashes, lol.  I'm looking forward to seeing what's new.

Death_at_Midnight ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 4:44 PM

Yeah I noticed too. I didn't see the update listed in my account page, so I sent them an email through their site and boom! Down for maintenance.

Looking at the DAZ forums, it looks to be $35 if you have a platinum membership. HDRI improvements, 10 HDRI's included, improvements to Bryce Lightning, and ability to set CPU priority.

jelisa ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 4:56 PM

And Mac Intel support ...

site is back up ... you guys are just too eager :P

Yeah,.........we shall see,............more will be revealed.

Woohoo! It's coming, but it's coming slooooow!

Man, it feels like Christmas all over again!

schmoopy ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 5:44 PM

Downloaded half of the installers and the site chokes again. :(

Death_at_Midnight ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 5:48 PM

Ah ha! So you're the reason why it's going slooow! ;-)

The new attributes to the IBL-HDRI part of the Sky Lab.

FAR more control. And, a lot more snappy/responsive when swaping out various HDRI's.

And most importantly (imho), when using an HDRI, you don't have to render with soft shadows on, speeding things way up.

not sure... here is what they wrote:

*You must download Bryce 6 from your Account page to get this update. Your downloads will be available until March 11, 2007. Please let us know if you have any difficulty.

I don't know what would happen...

Yeah, check with DAZ, I think any download can be reset, and downloaded again (?)

I am curious if this upgrade is going to overwrite my Bryce materials and presets as this seems like its own install.  Or am I going to have to move them all over again???

Ab~

Oh and its my B- Day :D have a great day everyone!

Guess what?  It is my birthday as well...  what a red letter day....  Pisces

every year in March and on the 7th.....   Happy birthday Vile....

jelisa ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 8:33 PM

Vile, as long as you didn't save any presets to the default categories that came with Bryce 6, then you shouldn't have to worry about them. We recommend that you back them up though, just in case. I installed v6.1 over my 6.0 install and it only overwrote the default presets, not the ones I'd added under new category names.

jelisa ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 8:35 PM

The reset DAZ did automatically expires on 3/11. After 3/11, you can just reset your downloads manually to get the updated files.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 8:37 PM · edited Wed, 07 March 2007 at 8:40 PM

But, yes....just in case if you have any presets in say your "User" folders, I would copy them elsewhere before doing anything (backup!)

Per Skondris' post I uninstalled/re-installed.

"Please completely uninstall Bryce 6.0 prior to installing version 6.1 to avoid any potential problems with the included content or the application itself, just to be safe"

Well, there should be a very different splash screen....

The new hdri options looks like a step in the right direction from what I can see of your picture AS. I wonder if they have done anything with the very old and out of date 3ds and obj importer. So I can import my 1000+ objects models :)

Analog-X64 ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2007 at 12:44 PM

I was wondering why the site kept crashing when I wanted read thorugh the forums.

Than I checked my e-mail and noticed B6.1 is out :)

They cant seem to handle the bandwidth when they release something new.

Death_at_Midnight ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2007 at 2:08 PM

At least not when it comes to the Bryce crowd :-)

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2007 at 2:48 PM

Shows you just how many current Bryce users there are out there.

**The new hdri options looks like a step in the right direction from what I can see of your picture AS.

**-Oh yes, there is now a new level of "complete" control. (Until we want more, of course)

Yeah,............an overall improvement,.......the render engine seems a bit faster also. Still getting some crashes though,..........but most of the major issues seem to have been resolved. I'm doing a test render now(just installed it).

There was one change to the .OBJ importer - it now correctly places any referenced bump map into the alpha channel (used to come into the diffuse).

Uncle_Riotous ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2007 at 6:13 PM

So how do I know which version I have loaded.  I registered for an upgrade from 5 to 6 yesterday and the file that I downloaded then seems to be the same one I downloaded today.  I've reinstalled but I can't see anything that says 6.1 only 6.0.1.

No it looks like I've downloaded the 6.0 update again.  It's odd it definitely says it's the 6.1 update on my download page and it shows as only having 3 tries left to download against it.  Odd.

I'll try downloading it again.

Uncle_Riotous ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2007 at 6:43 PM

Can you tell me what the upgrade file is called and how big it is.  Thanks.

jelisa ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2007 at 6:51 PM

Uncle Riotous, you may need to wait a bit longer, the cache servers are being recached and it may not have reached the one your downloads are pointing to. Try later tonight or tomorrow.
