Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 30 8:14 pm)
I just made an object in C4D to use in a Vue scene. I left scales in C4D default, which are huge ( a cube in C4D is 200 meters by default in my options), then I exported as 3ds and the size was correct in Vue6 (e.g. huge, really huge); Just tried obj, and the size is correct as well. Are you using real world units in Vue?
The answer is quite straightforward.
C4D has no concept of real world units - if you have a model 200m by 200m and change the units, all C4D does is change the suffix.
Vue on the other hand does know about real world units and scales accordingly. If you have set your Vue units to Meters then a C4D object of 200 units will come in at 200m. If on the other hand your Vue units are set to cm, the same C4D model will come in at 2m.
If your models are importing into vue at a very small size, just change the units in Vue to a bigger one.
What is when you re-import the obj into Cinema? Or to something else (Poser for example). What size does it have there? And maybe you have another modeller - maybe Blender or Wings3D (to name two free ones) - or Lightwave (I think I know you have that). Does it have the same effect?
What I try to come closer to is wether the problem is in the export filter from Cinema or in the import filter from Vue - in your case.
One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.
Becco_UK Just tried that. I increased the export from 1 to 10 and tried it and the cube came in at 2 x 2 metres. So I will try further tests.

I have made a model in C4D and it is huge, but when I import it into Vue, it comes into Vue really small. Is this because Vue works in Real world measurements? I have created a spaceship in C4D and it is huge. It fills C4D's working area, but it's tiny when imported to Vue. I could leave it small , but Vue's materials will be too large then. Most of the time I just increase the Export size in C4D, but I am wondering if there is another option I am not looking at? Q. Are there any wavefront (.obj.) import options in Vue? My C4D wavefront export options are set to 1000, but I may try to increase it to 10,000 or 100,000 and see if that helps. Just wondering if any of you use C4D and how you work it?
