Subject: Any help here ??? daz acting strange

Magick_Lady ( ) posted Tue, 06 March 2007 at 7:16 PM · edited Thu, 12 December 2024 at 5:55 AM

Hi everyone ,
Since a few months my daz|studio 1.4.16.0 is acting strange . Every time i click the poser 6 folder and within it the figure or pose folder , i get the message " error in daz exe and it needs to be closed " the other folders within poser 6 don't have that problem , the poser 4 & 5 folder don't have it and the daz directories don't have it either . It only happens on those 2 folders within the poser 6 folder . Anyone know how to fix this ? Tried to remove all directories and do search again but while its searching it happens again , same error in daz exe
Its really annoying :((((
Any help here ? cause daz support hasn't replied yet :(

Have you tried moving the folders outside of the Poser runtime folder? Im no wiz with Poser, but I have heard many say that you can only have so many folders inside the runtime before it starts acting wonky

Might wait for more expert advice tho..Im sure someone will come along pretty soon :) Sorry I couldnt be of more help

This is the basic Figure or Pose folder, not a sub-folder? What files (as opposed to folders) do you have in <Poser 6 folder>Runtimelibrariescharacter and <Poser 6 folder>RuntimelibrariesPose? Are there (probably recently added) folders in there with odd characters in the names?

There was a stage at which D|S crashed every time I opened a particular pose folder, and that turned out to be a bad thumbnail, but I would expect that (if it's still an issue) to affect two root library folders.

the basic figure and the poses folder within my poser 6 folder in my content tab in daz are causing the crash every time , and how can i find out which are the bad tumbnails then , don't remember what i last added in poser or daz ?
I'm willing to accept remote assistance on my pc if needed

Well, are there any files in those folders? You don't have to worry about files in the folders you can't even open, D|S doesn't look at the thumbnails until it wants to display their contents. If there are files, try moving all of them to another location, see if that fixes the issue, if it does move them back one by one until D|S crashes again. If there are no files, how about folder names? Again, if there are odd names try moving that folder out and see if the crashing stops.

Another thing you can do is try swapping the palette display mode - if you click the triangle button at top-right you'll get the options menu. I suspect you have Display as list checked - try Display as tree and then use the +s to expand the library trees until you get to the one you want: if expanding the Figure or Pose folders causes a crash, without clicking on the folder, then that sounds like a folder-name issue; if not it sounds like a file in the folder, and by not clicking on it you should be able to get to the things you want to use.

Try moving or copying needed content into a folder that contains a "runtime" folder.  DAZ did a nice scan of my harddrive, auto selecting product zip files that I had uncompressed.

reply to **RHaseltine :  got it listed as tree , i click the + of poser 6 en within the + folder figures and it crashes , with the + on folder poses it crashes too ................. the other folders +'s  like lights , hair , props etc within poser 6 + folder do okay. Isn't this a bit confusing :s
How can i find out now which file it is ?

Daz support adviced me to uninstall daz  1.4.16.0 and reinstall , but that didn't change a thing :s**

If it's crashing when you click the + then it sounds as if it's a folder name. What folders do you have in Poser 6Runtimelibrariescharacter and Poser 6RuntimelibrariesPose with non-standard 9for the US) characters in the names, that don't occur in the other (non-crashing) library folders? Do any of the folder names have spaces before the actual letters start?
