I am currently working on a model that's practice, yes - but this one's NOT going in the delete bin. my goal is to continue to detail it up a bit - and then I'm going to work on creating a detailed interior for this thing and working "gull wing" style canopy doors.

I'll be offering this as a freebie for commercial and non-commercial art work - or if you just wanna play around with it, but it is copyrighted - and I do not want the model itself to be distributed except exclusively by Rendo members and others who I will entrust to host or distribute it on a non profit basis. Once the model is finished then you can use it in whatever image work you want to - again commercial or not, no strings - no catch 22s - no credits necessary and no royalties expected. I am just retaining ownership because this ship is gonna end up in illustrated stories, games, etc., of my own creation.

Once it's done it should be useable in both bryce and Poser 4+,because I'm exporting it from WINGS 3d in both .obj and .3ds formats. The only major problem is that I'm gonna need somebody to make this thing poseable for POSER and DAZ STUDIO users.

Here's another view. When I finally get this this out there I would LOVE for folks to come up with new textures, add ons, ect. for it (basically because I'm lazy and tire easily) lol.

I wanna make it so that figures like VICTORIA 4 and other Poser figures can be placed in it either in Bryce or Poser / Daz studio.

I made need some help scaling it - getting it poseable, and also making a texture map for it.

It's going to be "mostly" public domain in that If you write stories or make games or whatever with this ship in the illustrations - or even as a "character" of sorts - then it must be understood that it is a generic "stock" model - and most certainly will LEGALLY end up in other people's work - as it is essentially "suppose" to.

Yes I'm learning tom - but I'm a bit disappointed in this first try though - because I've just come to the conclusion that the models pretty plain jJane thus far and some of the vertices are screwed up. So - back to the drawing board. But here's how it looks untextured in a BRYCE environment.

It looks really nice. I really do like it. I also like how you present it skimming really close to the ground. It would be neat to simulate movement on the ground, all a few bushes blurring past, and you've got an awesome render for that awesome freebie. Even untextured.

you might look into making some of the edges 'hard' (Bryce does 'hard edges, Poser does tiny bevels...in the wine..;)  When Bryce imports the object, it will try to smooth it some (not as much as Poser, thank heavens..;)

the trick is to choose what edges you want to be sharp, and make them hard. The ones you want to smooth out, just leave alone.

another thing is you can select faces, and assign 'materials' to them. Once that's done, you can apply Bryce materials to them, and get a more complicated look to it. As long as you don't separate the inside and outside of the canopy, you can also make it transparent.

This is a great model, and I'm not even this far yet. Looking forward to seeing another person breeze past my technical level..;) keep it up.

you have taught your self modeling (wax-on)  and rendering (wax-off)... 

now go on grasshopper.. show us more  (patronizing)....

Really an excellent and effective design!! I think you really have the knack for this Mugsey. If you'd like some advice, or pointers on detailing the cockpit, may I suggest using the search engine here under the Wings category and typing in "cockpit". There have been a huge amount of posts dealing with this there over the last few years. Also feel free to stop by the Wings forum with any modeling-type questions. The folks there are very nice and helpful too.

Well, you had a good start. But didn't keep on with it.

Knowing your way around with the slide command can help improve details before smoothing, since then you can add "control" edges and the such. Tools|connect comes in handy as well for purposes of adding extra edges.

UV'ing in Wings isn't really hard, but it does require some patience. Since it still doesn't save any segmenting in progress, I suggest trying creating "auv regions" with mats. Sounds weird, but then you can save the surface groupings, etc. Of course this then needs to be followed up with selections derived from those groups...  Sure, it's extra steps. But it's a workaround that allows you to save progress you couldn't otherwise.
