Subject: Help: Missing pngs or At Last, Shrugged

deci6el ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2007 at 9:37 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 8:47 PM

Macintosh G5 Poser 6 and/or Poser 7 Problem: New product does not display thumbnail (does not generate png in library) and so I get "shruggy guy". Old problem, I know. Product in question: Sanctum Art VAP Extension 1 It didn't produce any pngs and there are waaaaaaaay too many variations to pick a file just by its name. I need that little picture! How do those pngs get generated? Where does it get the picture? Why do some products make the png but flip the alpha? What's a guy gotta do to manage something that intermittently comes and goes? I mean, some products make them and this is never an issue and then WHAM! Shruggy-ville! Sure, I could just load all 96 objects individually, resave, generate a fresh png and then move on to the 250 pose files and associated props but...well, I'd rather not. Does anyone know the secret core knowledge re: Poser thumbs? Or a link where such info is held? Any help, much appreciated, thanks in advance? (insert appropriate sobbing emoticon) My brain is in melt-down. I know this is an old question and I swear I searched the archives for a well defined previous answer but too many unrelated search returns.

It could be capitalization of the file names. Mac OSX is Unix based, so "file1.pz2" is another file than "File1.pz2".
Or do the .pngs not appear at all - not even in your file browser?

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

*"How do those pngs get generated?
*One of 2 ways - automatically when you save a model back to the figure or poses library.
Or you make one yourself, .PNG's in Poser are usually 91x91 pixels square.

Some vendors will make custom images - some vendors just save straight back.

*"Sure, I could just load all 96 objects individually, resave"
*Or you could ask the vendor to help you. Most folks are pretty approachable.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

get xShruggy, a utility that gets rid of that annoying shrugging fellow by generating png files from rsr's

If the product has the correct .rsr files then you can use a program like xShruggy to extract the PICT resource and save it as a .png. If it there are no .rsr or .png files then loading rendering and saving is your only solution. Remember we have a Macintosh Forum here at Rendo:-) LOL: Cross post, only the quick and the dead...

nomuse: LOL, thanks. That's why I left it for the end of the subject. What can I say, I have a "reference" compulsion. kaveman: Doh! I rarely remember to check the Mac Forum. My path is well worn between here and the Lightwave forum. Thanks, good to remember and thanks for the shruggy link. jerr3d: Likewise, thanks for the link. Update: I bought the VAP Extension through CP but went back to Sanctum Arts Home and checked out his FAQ. There was a note about using MacConverter which I don't remember doing for the original files and I had pngs for all those but WTH. I converted the new files, re-installed, suddenly I have pngs! EXCEPT! The MAT folder still has 20 shruggy guys and the folder just happens to still have 20 rsr's. Mystery solved! EXCEPT! The Armor Pose file has 11 shruggy guys and NO rsr's and it's missing 11 pngs. Wierdly inconsisitant. So, I guess I'm off to download xShruggy. It kind of makes me sorry I deleted 1,357 rsr's I found lurking around my HD last night. I thought they weren't needed. Thanks very much for all your very speedy replies. don
