OK as some of you may know I'm currently working on my postwork hair painting skill. Now recently I saw a gallery where the artist was talking about starting out painting with Paint Shop Pro brushes and then upgrading to a tablet?! Would anyone be able to explain to me what a tablet is?

I would give anything have something that can make my postwork process easier so I could have less of crossing my fingers, closing my eyes and praying to whatever god may be listening, hoping the end result will look like hair. Cuz thats generally what I do... sometimes it works but most times it doesn't LOL

So yes, anyone who could help me out would be greatly appreciated! :D

Okay a tablet is like a special mousepad that you use with a stylus (ie pen like object) to make for better precision when painting on a computer.  its like working with a pen and paper tablet, except your image appears on the computer, not the tablet.  As for brushes, in paint shop pro or adobe photoshop, there are different "paintbrushes" that give different looks.  There are a lot of free brushes out there for these programs that help simulate hair.

Most welcome.  I have a tablet myself, it makes a HUGE difference.   They aren't usually cheap, however sometimes you can find one used for much less on ebay someone has outgrown as they've moved to a bigger one.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe "Prog" only uses the standard mouse for his images.  So a graphic tablet is not a requirement for digital painting.

I've never been able to get psp brushes to paint hair well, so mine is done in photoshoop or painter.  

Maybe psp does do it well but I've never found any good settings

Me too, while I still use PSP for most things, as I am still getting used to PS. I think the settings for hair are much easier in PS - I can never get it to look smooth in PSP, comes out chuncky, even with anti-alias on.

Yes, that's exactly my problem - all I can get it jaggy lines.  

I must admit, I was a 99% psp user till I started using Photoshop brushes, then as I got more used to the proggy, now I'm at most a 5% psp user.  Photoshop is really much better for most things.  Though for some reason, psp has much better jpg saving options than ps.
