Subject: vista sp for poser 6?

Does anyone know if e-frontier is going to get a sp out for poser 6 for vista issues? My emails to them go unanswered?  Wonder why????? :sneaky:

Quite possibly not.  Versions 5, 6 and 7 for the PC are marketed as being compatible with Windows XP, not once is Vista mentioned.  As long as the software requirements are listed for the product they have no obligation to support, or issue patches, for any software outside those specifications.

This is one of my major reasons for not upgrading to Vista, I am not going to run the risk of software incompatibility andI know it will happen.  The other being Microsoft are suppoting XP until 2014 and I will need a new PC long before then.

I did consider getting the upgrade, as I am entitled to a free copy, and setting up a dual boot but with not a lot out there in the way of AV and firewalls at the moment it seemed like too much hassle.

Does Vista itself not have an option within it to run programs as an earlier version? I know XP has that capapbility. OF course, not knowing what all the vista/poser issues are, it might be that that alone would not deal with it...

Vista has that capability but doesn't work well. I'm assuming that because they redid the whole file structure in windows the emulation is screwed up.

Vista support will probably come in sp3 for Poser7 or maybe not even till Poser8, I wouldn't suggest holding your breath waiting as you'll go blue in the face & scare people.

I emailed Poser about P6 Vista compatibility and they said 7 is compatible but many people are using 6 under Vista.

Shutting off the UAC often is all it takes to make older programs run in Vista. Much of the issue has to do with User Permissions. Some users are successful, and others are not. I think it may depend on which version of Vista and whether you have multiple accounts or not..

This is scary. My computer is at the store for repair. They said they might not be able to repair it and if they can't they'll give me a new one... Problem is they don't have new computers with anything but Windows Vista. And they told me you can't replace it with XP because the computer itself is built for Windows Vista and XP might not work well in those new computers.

Does anyone know if HP can still provide an older computer model with WinXP?

While my computer is gone I have a new computer to use. It has XP but it is a Media Center and I find I have lots of problems that I didn't have with my own computer. Granted, it is faster but the difference in speed is not enough for me to want to keep this one if I can have my own back.

That does not sound right. You can run XP on newer computer. It will run better than Vista will run most likely. I do not think there is a single Vista Only component. The other way around is true.. you may not be able to run Vista on an older machine.

Companies like HP and Dell most likely will not offer that, but local Stores might still have an XP Machine available.

I had to take the last computer they had that had Windows XP. All the other computers had Windows Vista. And I asked the tech there and that's what he told me. That if we install Windows XP instead of Vista in the new computers it might not work ok. I don't know enough about computers to know if it is correct or not but with prices like that, I would not take a chance. ;o(

Sounds like he's trying to muscle you into getting Vista, being that he's expecting you to not know enough to know he's feeding you a line of bull.

As ratscloset said, there shouldn't be anything hardware-wise in any mass-produced computer that would prevent you from installing XP onto it (I don't think there are any Vista-specific components being used for any but the most powerful systems, but I could be wrong).

Though, if you want to install over Vista, it would be better to do a full reformat of the main hard drive (or all if there are multiple, just in case), and then install XP on that clean disk.

Thank you (both of you). I'll ask more questions if the need arises. I still hope they'll repair my computer because I was very satisfied with it. ;o)
