Subject: Inserting Layers - Action

richcz3 ( ) posted Fri, 30 March 2007 at 3:28 PM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 5:02 PM

I have a work flow that definately needs an Action for batch processing. I need to insert a Safe Area layer as the top layer in a PSD. The Safe Area layer has multiple layers that are in a folder that need to remain editable. So copy/paste functions aren't the solution.

I'm using CS2 - Anyone have any ideas.

Thank in advance.

Hi Joe - Thanks for the links.

I have about 8 Actions I've made over the past two weeks that have saved allot of production time.
Where Action features appear to come short is opening multiple PSD docs and Inserting one into another. Imagine manually inserting hundreds of PSD layered files in a deadline. Yikes!

Inserting layers by "dragging" is not recorded in actions. It just shows documented selected.  I've tried the "Open" action (folder location) but having two "Layered PSD" files interact with each other is where the limitation appears to be.

I'm sure there's a work around here somewhere.

Here is a free script (link) that will insert multiple documents into one (each on their own layer). Photoshop has it’s own script that will do the opposite “Export Layers To Files”. So you could use the PS script to break up your layered PSD’s and  export to a folder…. Then use the “collect script” to grab them and layer them into your new document.

Don’t know if you can record a running script as an “action” (for batch processing) ..never tried it.

Might try asking over on Adobe’s Photoshop Scripting forum for something better…(some of those guys love to write scripts).

SWAMP - Wow that looks as close as possible to what I am looking for. It may just do the trick. It looks like allot of options can be keyed in . I think you're right I do not believe a script can be built into an action, but this script alone could more than offset the current drudgery. I'll give it a run and see how it goes. Thanks again. **
