Subject: Poser import crashes Carrara

garryts ( ) posted Tue, 24 April 2007 at 12:01 PM · edited Sun, 09 February 2025 at 7:48 PM

Hi all, i hoping someone out there can help me with this... I'm using TransPoser to import Poser figures and clothing into a Carrara render - I have created a 'master' scene in one file, and I am importing each figure (plus associated clothing) into their own file, which I then save and later import into the 'master' scene file. (simply my workflow) Anyway... All was well until I came to dress Vicky - I'm using Daz's "Victoria 3.0 Fantasy Sci-Fi Uniform"... The top/vest (whatever) crashes Carrara whenever I import it. The pants, however, import no problem. (I know, you think I'm over-dressing my Vicky! lol) The files for the top work perfectly well in both Poser 6 and Daz Studio... All the same, I have tried re-installing the original files.. When importing into Carrara I have tried disabling the morphing options and so but Carrara still crashes.. Anybody seem anything like this before? Know of a workaround? For what its worth, I'm using an intel Mac, 10.4.9, 2Gb RAM Thanks, Garry

Hello Garry, I'm running a similar configuration and haven't run into that issue. Hey, your'e special today! Does the top come in by itself ok. (import a scene without V3) I do know that there have been occasional "problem" files that transposer doesn't like. You don't mention if the file imports with the Native importer. Have you tried that route yet? You can always try resetting the Carrara preferences. Occasionally things get dinged up in those. (Edit => reset preferences) Post back and we'll get it figured out. Mark

Hi Mark thanks for responding - I was beginning to think that no one loved me! ;-) The top - with TransPoser - imports into the wrong position (too low - 50% below 'ground') and Carrara becomes unresponsive and dies in less than 15 seconds... This is with both a new (empty) document or one that includes other imports. With the native importer, the top never completely imports - at the moment you would expect the top to appear, the document window clears and Carrara dies... I tried resetting Carrara preferences - no difference. I beginning to suspect that I should give the problem to Daz Support and use another product... Garry

Attached Link: Report a bug

I can guarantee that the developers are interested in correcting all content issues. Not all add-on Poser/DAZ prodcuts are created equal and it looks like you found one that misbehaves. E-mail them or give them a call. I am aware that in the devopment cycle for C5 there were some significant import issues with certain add-ons. But that was before DAZ aquired Eovia and the developers didn't have access to all content for testing. Let them know so they can give it a spin, and fix the issue. Mark

Just to be sure - I reinstalled Carrara and Transposer, trashing the old prefs too... However, importing the top still crashes Carrara... I'll raise a bug report. Thanks for the help, Mark Garry

I had a similar problem with another item of clothing.  It turns out that in my case at least, when I tried to import it without V3,  Carrara could not properly adejust it's placement.  On a whim, I tried uncomforming the item from V3 and saving it alone again.  Without being conformed to V3 it worked.  Of course this did some weird things to the item's pose but I was able to convert it to the vertex modeler and redo the pose that way.  I hope this helps.

Rich

PTW I use the PC version of C5 and P6 so it may not work for you but it's worth a try I guess.

Thanks for the suggestion, Rich... I did try this and unfortunately I didn't work for me :-( I have raised a bug report with Daz - I suspect it will be a C6 fix! Garry

I have had exactly the same problem with the exact same item of clothing.  It has to be somethign with the clothing item since it seems to be knocking out macs and PCs like mine.  I just switched to the unimesh scifi suit with a custom mat I made for it and she imported fine.
