Hi all,

I'm going e-Shopping at Amazon, and want to get a book on P7. So, can I get some feedback on what is the best Poser 7 textbook around ?

I got both Secrets of the Poser Experts and Practical Poser 7 and I'd recommend the later in a heartbeat! Very useful book. Secrets isn't bad either, but I consider it more of a source of inspiration than a book I can actually learn about Poser from. Focuses quite a lot on postwork and I didn't really need any Photoshop info. As an inspirational piece though, it rocks! Practical Poser 7 on the other hand, contains a lot of tutorials and information that you'll very likely put to use immediately.

Same here, I have both Secrets of the Poser Experts and Practial Poser 7,  but I also have Poser 7 Reveled, I feel that the Practical Poser 7 is great but so is the Poser 7 Reveled, but the second one is not as extensive as Practical Poser 7.

Practical Poser 7 is incredibly straightforward, covers a lot of ground, and is useful for poser users of all levels in my opinion.

I agree. Practical Poser 7 is veryusefull.
I wouldnt suggest to buy secrets of poser experts. I am still mad about this purchase. This book is nothing else than a promotion for the artists who are shown in the book.

Also, can someone list the content of the Secrets of the Poser Experts DVD? Are there any characters, props, poses, textures, etc in the DVD?

The contesnts dont blows you away. They are some links ( Daz, Rendero..and all the other knowin places)
As character you have some swamp animals from CP. But these are in the P7 extra content from CP too. And kojil.
The tutorials inside, which are interesting , you can see on the web for free to. Some of them at the E-frontier side.
The images from the artist you can see here or somewhere else on the web at severval galleries.
The short interviews are not really interesting.
The tipps are really poor. Safe your money and buy you a another Poser book.

I love my Practical Poser 6 so I'd imagine Practical Poser 7 would be just as great even though I haven't rushed out to buy it. I don't find I use Poser 7 as much as I do Poser 6. Stability issues, cloth room issues and whatnot I just haven't kept up with it. I haven't even bothered installing the latest patch to check that out yet. I chalk it up to lack of motivation to change these days.

Practical Poser 7 is a good one. The tutorials are easy to follow . But one thing. the tuts are not really for Poser beginner and some of them you need other materials to folow the lessons. This is a point whit one i am disappointed. It is not self contained with all materials needed to do the tutorials. The face room, cloth room and other room tuts you can read at the Poser manual too. So in this point nothing new.
But if you looking for your character makes real. Some tuts could be interesting for you.
But i would suggest you at first read the Poser manual, and search the eweb for free poser tuts.
Maybee you can safe so some money. ;)

Practical Poser 7, hands down.

From a slightly different angle. I bought Practical Poser 6 less than a year ago, and found it extremely useful - I regularly refer to it and it's already looking very tatty!  My question is, is there enough new stuff in Practical Poser 7 to make it worth buying as well?

Poser 7 Revealed is not as good as Practical Poser 7.  But that is my opionion. Sharen

I didn't hesitate to buy PP7 as soon as it came out, even though I have PP6. Both are the class acts of the Poser books. I looked through Revealed a few times and saw nothing that would suggest it had more use than the manual. I'd love to have Secrets, but it's just a desktop conversation piece.

BTW, rumor is that a new version of BL Render's book is due. Also a major keeper.

And speaking of books, if you are thinking about Blender, there's a new book called "Introducing Character Design with Blender," by Tony Mullen (Wiley) that looks fabulous. I spend two hours with it at B&N yesterday. I can't speak for its professional accuracy, since I'm an armature (?) but as I worked through it I kept thinking, "Sure, yeah, hey I can do that!" His chapter on rigging is pretty overwhelming.

Yup and it's going to go into my shopping cart the moment it becomes available!

Practical Poser 6 and Practical Poser 7 were written to be sort of a bridge between the manuals and the "Secrets of Figure Creation with ..." book, which REALLY gets into the technicalities of creating figures. I figured I couldn't outdo what was already done so well, and left the bulk of those topics to those who have already done a fantastic job with it. It's the "graduate course" of figure creation. 8-)

So if you read PP7 and still need to wet your appetite for figure creation, I highly recommend getting BL Render's book when it becomes available, to take you even beyond PP7.
