Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
Yeah, that's a real shame your leaving but I've also been wondering about this. Has anyone looking at the "Most Viewed" images in the Poser gallery? Many of the thumbnail images there break the TOS but for some unknown reason, they are allowed to stay. So why is Rosity leaving those thumnail images alone in the "Most Viewed" section?
This is one of reason why I won't upload my artwork here. I use anime figures a lot in my renders. Although I seldom do nudes or even half nudes, the TOS is too restrictive for my liking. I use kids & teens and often make young adults my art would surely get yanked, not worth it. Everytime I see one of these threads on here I'm glad I don't do art galleries for the public.
Sorry that happened to you :( And sorry to see you leave the galleries :(
Aiko is one of those figures where her face can look anything between preteen to adult. Unfortunately many morphs for Aiko tend to make her face look very young and child-like. And when people look at a figure (human or 3D), it's the face we primarily use to determine whether someone is underage or not.
While the body may look adult, if the face looks like a child's face (and many Aiko morphs do), that image is considered "child" by the site staff, regardless of what the body looks like. It's the big eyes and round face that gives that perception. And unfortunately some merchants really play up those features when creating characters for Aiko.
Months and months ago certain figures were deemed "child" by Renderosity and as a result none of those figures could be used in erotic, nude or semi nude images. Aiko had been in that category initially. However, Aiko is an animi character and was created to be an "adult", and after much protesting Aiko was removed from the list and images of her were decided on a case by case basis depending on the setting, her facial age, body type etc. *It's very subjective. * Given the problems that many have with child nudity violations when using Aiko, I'm almost sorry that she was removed from the "child" category.
I know that while some really do see that the Aiko character they created looks 12 years old when they upload their naked Aiko image, that some really do feel that the characer in their image is "old enough" to be considered adult.
Unfortunately it's not our own perception of the character that matters: the decision ultimately rests with what the site staff think of the age of the character and the "facial age/appearance" is a big deciding factor in those decisions.
I hope one day you reconsider your decision and bring your images back to the gallery here :)

The thumbnail policy for "no nudity in thumbnails" was established January 24, 2007, and all thumbnails going forward could not contain nudity in them. Thumbnails prior to that change in policy were not required to be changed. If you look at the dates of the image uploads in the "Most Viewed", you will see that the thumbnails with nudity in them were uploaded prior to January 24, 2007. That's why you see what is perceived as "thumbnail violations" in that area.

Oh OK. Well, I guess I didn't really need to go change any of mine because they were uploaded before that date. Oh well, better safe than sorry.
Aiko/Hiro seem to be outlawed here because of their age, such a shame really. You can buy the products for them just don't upload any to your gallery or they'll yank it? That's the impression I'm getting. I don't understand. I see nudes all over this site & half naked Vickie's but don't use Aiko/Hiro because it's against the TOS?
To all who have read and responded - my thanks for your time and thoughts in this matter
I am glad this thread hasn't degenerated into another Renderosity-bash as this was never my intention - I am simply tired of the overly-restrictive rules here and will take my pictures elsewhere
I think, apart from my own troubles which I'm not about to air in public, the time to move on has been precipitated by some of the IMHO craziness over the thumbnail policy. I was looking through the galleries recently for the first time in a long time, and I simply don't have the time to look through every image that may be interesting but which has either a generic 'adults' thumbnail, or for which the artist has been forced to create a frankly ridiculous and unrepresentative thumbnail. I shall follow my favorite artists but don't expect to add to them very often. And looking through my favorite artist list I see a number of others have removed their galleries too. It is so sad to see Renderosity coming to this.
I truly regret that I feel the need to close my gallery here as this was the first place I posted anything, and I've had some wonderful comments and even made a couple of friends through it, but the time has come to move on.
Once again, I shall remain as a poster in the forums and as a purchaser of content, but I don't consider my pictures belong here any more.
My humble thanks to all those wonderful and creative people who have fought the fight, and who remain behind, you have my best wishes

MartinW - Sorry to see another one go. Unfortunately I never got round to seeing your gallery. I personally haven't uploaded anything which violates the TOS (I'm not saying yours did) but it does anger me when I hear of those people's which were pulled when there is so very little to complain about. Child nudity, I agree is wrong, but when a character is not meant to depict a child & is not lifelike then there really shouldn't be a problem.
I don't think it is just here. Let's face it, the North American attitude is very, " Rectious Clinchious." It is very common to see major freakouts and accusations over Japanese type animie figures. BTW, I'm Western Canadian so no need for any North Americans to jump on that.
Not much can be done about it. Moving to another site may be the best option for a bit more freedom of your art. I understand, I post some of my other stuff over there too. Good luck.
Can't blame 'Rosity for being worried. Myself, I'd be very curious to see a government prosecution on an Aiko scene-- would be fascinating, since she's arguably not any age at all-- she's a stylized human, not even an image of what a real human could be.
The problem for a business is that while Croc would find this interesting from a legal perspective, its not so "interesting" if you're the guy with the $100K legal bill.
And counting on a US Attorney to be "understanding" of expression in new media is a pretty thin reed, especially when you could be brought into Court in pretty much any jurisdiction.

Thats a secret.
I could tell you, but the post would only get deleted, and I'd get a warning or banned.

To preface.... 'way back when, Elves were depicted in the Old Tales, as 4 1/2 feet tall, or thereabouts.... to my question about all this..... So, if I were to post, say a young dwarf... 40 - 50, or so.... no facial hair yet...... this'd be considered possible TOS violation?.... how about an Elf as described in the Old Tales?.... even in full battle gear... with armour? Granted, you have to draw a line somewhere, but is it really necessary to take it to the irreducible? Lou.
"..... and that was when things got interestiing."
Hmm, soon, it will be just half naked Vickie's in temples in the galleries. All the images will look the same, with or without cloths. The gallery is already bland as it is and starting to look like rendered clones of the same females over & over again. Nothing will standout from the crowd. Bland & boring is the name of the game thanks partly to the TOS.
Yeah, same thing happened to me. I also got one of my images pulled for the same reason and I wasn't even using Aiko, I was using a V4 character sold here at Rendo... (I didn't pull my meager gallary though - yet).
I think you can blame this whole restrictive TOS on the Puritanical, phony born-again, conservative and ultra right wing influence. 'Art' and the conservative right-wing idology that is prevalent with most "management" of any kind, in oak panelled board rooms, with PTBs in general, never did mix, never did see eye-to-eye... and never will.
If it were up to them (the self-appointed custodians of our morality) more than half the stuff on public display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, The National Art Gallery and other notable museum in this country (USA), would be banned. (I'm not even going to mention the Louvre, The Hermitage, The Vatican Museum (Yes, The Vatican) and other world class museums through-out the world)

In response to those who have taken the time and consideration to post to this thread - and to prove I haven't tossed my toys out of the pram and fled in a huff - in no especial order we have:
Gongyla: I know where you are coming from, but my beef isn't with the merchants but the TOS here
Beryld: I agree
Dejadues: I agree
PJZ99: I agree
Crocodilian: scary but probably true
Drifterlee: I prefer the opposite end of the scale..just looks better to my aesthetic
Guslaw: I know what you mean - so many books, pictures, etc., would not be allowed if they were being created today
FWIW I don't have any problem with anything that protects children from being abused, brutalised, made to grow-up too soon, etc.
FWIW I also understand R'osity's position in that they need income to keep the place running and are somewhat beholden to the card merchants' ideas as to what is or is not permissible
Overall - I'm glad I'm in Europe where things are a little less 'intense' than they are in the US, but sadly we're catching up
Just my 2c/2p/2d/fill in currency of choice in small denominations only

This is just a heads-up for all those who enjoy my pictures that I am removing my gallery after having had my latest image pulled for TOS violation
You guessed it - it was a naked Aiko and so was deemed to break the TOS in respect of child/teen/etc. nudity
IMO this picture was not a TOS-breaker, but this place is too pedantic, unimaginative and restrictive to keep up a gallery here - it's Renderosity's playground but I'm not going to play here any more. I'll remain active in the marketplace as a customer and the forums which are an amazing source of help and inspiration, but as an artist I'm out of here
For those who like my pictures you can find my other galleries at R__otica under MartinW and at DA under Clee-Hill
My thanks to all those who have made my pictures favorites of theirs and good luck to those who remain
