Gimp can make gif animations. I haven't tried the seperate gimp animation package, but it's out now as well.

While GIMP is a great program, its animation package is pretty weird and hard to come to grips with. I wouldn't recommend it for such a purpose.

It is a older freeware version but you can get Ulead Gif Animator 2.0 here.
www.pricelesswarehome.org/2006/PL2006GRAPHICS.php#Editor:GifAnimations
or download it from here.
encoderx.co.uk/imageeditors/index.php
It is not as easy to use as version 5 is and if you get PhotoImpact from Ulead then Gif Animator comes with it so it makes it even more easy to use because you can edit things better. But they are not free.

I stand to be corrected here .... but AFAIK, Ulead GIF Animator has been v5 since Photoimpact has been at v7 .... and Photoimpact has now moved up thru' the ranks to v12.

Yea I have had version 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Ulead GIF Animator and I got Ulead GIF Animator version 5 with PI v7 and it was the first version that was so much more easy to use.  Now with PI up to version 12 I have been waiting to see if they will ever update Ulead GIF Animator to a newer better version but still waiting.

UrbanChilli ( ) posted Thu, 17 May 2007 at 1:45 PM

I've been using PI since v5 and is using v12 now. Didn't know they had a free version. Thank you for all the links, I have send them to my friend so he can try them all out.

I started with version 6 of PI and then got 7, 8 and then wanted a newer version but I got 98SE and they stopped support on it and I could not find any of there later versions that would work on 98 so I got PhotoImpact Pro version 10 from http://www.novadevelopment.com/ that is still PI but has other small things that are changed in it and this site tills you http://pircnet.com/pixl-vs-pro/ what it is like.
Had to pay more too because I could not get the cheaper upgrade price from Ulead.
Never really got that many added to things over version 8 either and using the Update on it is not like Ulead and only brings up newer versions and that is not what Ulead did.
Then it has other bugs like takes so long to open and that darn splash screen opens everytime like your see in the screen shot at the site above but there is no box to uncheck to keep it from loading even when there help file says there is.
I don't really understand why the PI is also sold under the Nova name because it's still PI and Ulead name is all over it still.
But Ulead had that Ulead GIF Animator 2.0 at there site till I thing version I think Ulead GIF Animator 4 or 5 came out.
I even got maybe a Ulead GIF Animator 1 or I think the one filter like the "Warp with Grid" that was a on a floppy I got and it was Shareware and that was the first thing I had from Ulead and I think it cost me $1.00.
