I am greatful for your support. I am still trying to restore my web site. However,, the owner's of the server aren't responding to email either, so something bad must have happened.
I'm not the only one gets depressed when artists don't appreciate free stuff. There's a definite heavy bias on some sites towards commercial models.which is why it just isn't worth making stuff any more. Ironically though when one takes the trouble to thank some commercial modellers they don't seem to have any desire to respond either. Next time I'll post my news on 3Dcommune where people value all contributions, however small or insignificant. It says a lot about 3D art that my site stats read tens of thousands of downloads and not a word from anyone! You bet modelers get discouraged. Same with designing card models, a few nice people support the modeller but thousands couldn't care less.
If you think I'm being unreasonable, ok, you try offering or selling stuff and see what happens.
Yes, I'm having a dissapointing day!
Sorry, I've hit a bad low for a few days, so feeling very negative. I really do appreciate people's comments here. I get very down because I'm a full time carer and get very angry with the UK health system because it's deliberately rationing health care and makes many people's lives a nightmare. Never bothers the rich, does it!
Oh well.....grumble grumble
GOOD NEWS
My site is now updated and it seems that all the 3D models are now available for download.
APOLOGIES TO MY SERVER PROVIDER
They weren't able to answer my e mails because they were stuck in my outbox so never got sent.
However, I was unable to access my site due, they say, to the control panel being re-located to another server, which I knew nothing about. So I guess that works out at 50/50 on blame for this mess.
Seriously, life was sooooooooooo much less stressful and happier before they invented computers.
I didn't see this thread till now, but want to assure you that I very much appreciate your freebies! The generosity of people like you (and I see others in this thread alone :)) who are talented enough to create these wonderful things and then share them is incredible!! Thank you all!!
Please don't feel unappreciated!!
So sorry to hear about the issues with health care. We in the US face our own frustrations with the health care system here, so can relate to some degree.

Hey Zippy, I know exactly how you feel about providing free stuff. I did so for years, and about the only emails I ever got were gripes, with very few thank yous. I think folks forget how much work (and even expense) can go into making stuff for Poser users, be it free or for sale. Particuarly if they do quality work like you do! I think its great you have toughed it out this long. Hang in there if you can. Its not always easy being "a nice guy". Folks tend to take "nice" for granted.
Rob
Hi Rob...hey, you got my cat!
Commercial modellers are on the whole 'nice' folk too. I think they must get taken for granted too.
No, I'm gettin' too old for this lark. These younger people are streaking way ahead of me. I'll give them credit, they deserve praise because they can do lots and lots of things I can't AND never will, so they deserve the money they get.
As for commercial sites like this one, they can't survive without money. Just a pity though that freebies are always in the background. I shouldn't complain really, there are kids and adults all over the world who may never ever use a computer, ironically because they save up to get money to buy one then when they have one they lose all the money again trying to keep the damn thing going! Somewhere up there I think God is having a good laugh! Mind you, I doubt even God can keep his going either:)
I tried a few components, and although they did (after hunting for the textures) import - there seems to be something odd going on with the openings - where you'd expect doors or windows to be.
(and some odd shadows - if that is shadows, [scratches head, puzzled expression]))
Am I missing out a step?
(nice looking village otherwise.)

The door, windows and shadow problems suggest to me that your software isn't importing the geometry properly. I can only say that no one else has mentioned this problem to me before.
I strongly suggest you consider getting Poser 7. All of the old shadow problems of previous versions are now gone. Lighting and rendering are so much better it's hard to believe it's Poser, and it's got volumetric light effects. Needs a lot of RAM though. I've tried Daz Studio but don't like the interface.
Hi zippy, I have a lot of your freebies, they are wonderful, please keep them online :)
Posette, and no else ! Posetteforever
I just visited your site and you do amazing work! I'd love to get the Oak tree and and a couple of buildings for a series of renders I'm planning.
I've bookmarked your site and I hope the server problems get solved soon.
Hope your mood lifts because of these kind and appreciative posts.

Hi Zippy,
I think I have ALL your models. ;o))
I wrote to you a few years back about them. I have just started really enjoying making images with all the stuff I have and I always give credit where it is due, as long as I can find out to whom it is due that is. I think it is weird the way it goes. I offer freebies too but although mine are certainly not as much quality stuff as yours, I've received many emails thanking me, showing me renders using my freebies or requesting something specific. I am sorry that it is not the same for you. Your freebies are just great so the only thing I can think of is that the people who use your kind of models are not as grateful as the ones who use the kind of freebies I offer. ;o((
P.S. Sorry if it is not clear what I wrote. I speak French.

Thank you Francemi
Peuplez ou comme un modèle particulier ou ils pas . Beaucoup de l'encavateur juste d'artiste tout qui vient le long et probablement n'emploient jamais bon nombre d'entre elles.
People either like a particular model or they don't. Many people just grab everything that comes along and probably never use many of them.
I'm glad you liked them anyway:)
Well I doubt very much that most of the people who download your freebies don't use them. You have such a wide range of models to choose from and they can be used in many different kinds of scenes so I think I'll stick with my theory: people who download your models use them but are just ungrateful... as sad as this seems. ;o(

Oh, you'd be surprised Francemi how many and how often models are used if you check the picture galleries on 3D sites. Many of my models haven't been used in pictures. I expect I could be wrong as artists like making pictures that never appear in galleries. Too nervous perhaps? which is a shame it'self. There should be much more encouragement for beginners.
I agree with you on this: it sometimes take more than a year for a beginner to risk uploading an image in a gallery. There are of course many users who don't publish their work at all, ever. I know for the last 2 years I used Poser almost exclusively to create images for my greetings cards. I know I used at least 2 of your own models in such images that were never published because my objective was not to publish them but to create nice illustrations for my greetings cards. ;o)

Quote - Well to be honest Fran, getting Poser 7 is why I don't have any more money now either, but it was worth it!
Thanks again for comments. I've had emails too sharing my concern over feedback for modellers. Anyway, my stuff is staying up for the forseeable future.
Well we buy what we feel we need - when we can afford it. I'm trying to save up for something in the software line, but I'm thinking ZBrush or Mudbox - to improve my modelling skills or maybe Vue for vegetation. I use people figures so rarely that Poser really isn't worth all that money to me... not just yet anyway.
Glad to hear your models are staying up - you have a good eye for architecture, t'would be a pity to waste it.

I buy things when I don't need them and can't afford them...which is exactly how I got started making models, and I'm still paying for it all. If I could go back again I would never buy Poser or take up modelling. It's really only for the rich. I am quite happy now making card models and writing, both of which are very cheap hobbies. Writing is the cheapest because it is virtually free for anyone with a basic computer and internet connection. Words can create images in the mind that art could never achieve and every picture would be different to each person.

Well as I just don't have the money in the first place, for me "can't afford" simply means "do not have" - and has done for some time, in fact when I wanted to start modelling Poser was just for people only, nothing else at all, and very hard to use,.
I've still got (somewhere) the free version of Poser (3 I think) that came free with a magazine - almost impossible to manage!
So I turned to Wings3d which was then free - and still is - and to my utter amazement I could actually use it. So I've used it ever since.
P.S. I too write, now and then.

I use Daz for that very reason. Poser is still beyond my budget, so the free stuff that is available is a real bonus. There are some good modeling programs available for free, like Wings3D (which I haven't used) or Anim8tor. and a new one I've yet to try called Art of Illusion. Once I have a collection of models, I'll put them up as free items, mainly because of people like Zippy who set a good example.
I just found your site and spotted two things I can use immediately! I really hope you don't decide to trash the site. I'm not much for commenting usually but your posts made me want to ask, are you pushing verts because you love it or for praise? It's a rhetorical question, something to ponder. From my point of view you don't need anyone's validation, your work speaks for itself. The workbench is just like the one my grandfather had and I fondly remember many hours sitting and watching him work. I tried making one myself but my modeling skills are not to the point I desire yet, so imagine my delight on seeing the bench ready-made. Please don't jump ship to the other site. I've a few issues with a smart-aleck site admin there so I would miss the opportunity to view your forthcoming works.
Hi Zippy! Yeah I hate computers and BAAD CD technology that fades very important digital files away so they can't be used. I hate the government officials, and my condo association management and the medical system and I hate being unemployed since February and still no work prospects. And I hate..... But with regards to yur offerings and gifts to the community I can assure they are appreciated as any gifts are. I just don't come to the forums too often and slow connections cripple my desire to pursue threads and whatever comes down the pike at me from them. Not visiting makes me oblivious to problems but NOT ungrateful! :) THANKS! :)
I rarely drop by this forum, so forgive me for not saying this earlier... THANK YOU for all the incredible models you created for Poser users! I'm one of those lucky weirdos who got Poser as a gift, and every expensive thingy I own is thanks to gifts from generous people or thanks to prizes from various contests. Without ability to buy or to model what I need, I rely on freebies - and your creations are true gems among all the free things one can get over the net. I can't remember how many times I used your blackberry hedge or trench wire props, not mentioning other buildings or the oak trees. If you don't feel like keeping them coming, please at least don't trash your previous hobby and let the people enjoy the stuff you made.
Sorry to hear about how you feel. Hope you at least really enjoy things you're doing now :-) hugs

Someone (one person) has kindly told me that most of the 3D model links on my site are not working. I am fixing this now. However, due to it being a Saturday the server is too busy for me to upload the corrections until very late tonight. I can't even access the server to shut my site down.
Please DO NOT try and access my freebies or site until Sunday morning as it will take me a long time to upload and check the links are working.
I'm affraid this error was due to my trusting software to update automatically when I switched my site from one web authoring program to another. It's very annoying when software doesn't do what it claims but at least it should be reassuring that it would probably be just as impossible for any nation to start World War 3 !
Thank you
zippy
