Subject: The Great Painted Pubic Hair Poll...

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

...well, maybe not so great, but possibly of some little interest.

I've noticed that a lot of texture merchants (especially, I think, with V4 - but I could very easily be wrong) tend to paint pubic hair onto their textures and don't include an 'no-hair' option. Anyway, I was curious if this trend is in response to artists' preferences or not. Soooooo, do you prefer texture packages which:

A/ come with only painted on hair
B/ come with no hair
C/ come with both versions (not being a merchant, I'm not sure if this causes problems in terms of the larger file sizes or somesuch)
D/ couldn't care less

Personally, I only ever use either hair props or none in renders, so 'B' would be fine with me...

(I've flagged this as a 'language advisory' just in case...)

In my new V4 characters I offer both options.  In the V3 I'm reworking I'll do the same.

It's the strangest thing, really. V3 has geometry for both eyebrows and pubic hair, but most texturers ignore that geometry (trans=100%) and paint eyebrows and pubic hair directly on the texture.

Why??

With painted-on eyebrows,  the artist is required to use hair colors that match the eyebrow colors, or else the character looks like he/she has used peroxide or a color shampoo. Transmapped eyebrows that allow the artist to choose eyebrow color to match the hair color would be much more versatile, and both V3 and V4 allow this.

V3 has pubic hair geometry, plus a morph to bring it out of the hip, so using a transmap plus color on that geometry allows for any pubic hair color the artist wants (including no pubic hair at all) V4 doesn't have that option (a mistake IMO, But there are pubic hair props for V4 out there).
The versatility in color and style that's possible with the pubic hair geometry is cast aside when textures have pubic hair painted on.

So my preference is definitely for NO painted eyebrows and pubic hair, but WITH transmaps for eyebrows/pubes.

Hear, hear!

I agree with that. One thing I don't like on  V4  is the painted eyebrows  and pubic hair. I'm reallty stunned why DAZ did that.

I don't do full nudes so it doesn't matter to me. I don't even add the genitals to the scene for M3 because you can't cover them up with pants.

Prefer none with some option to transmap it in rather than painted into the texture.

If your pubic hair painting skills aren't horrible then I would like it both ways.  If your skillz are subpar in that area - just skip the hair.  On females Im never going to use it anyway.  On men I do.

Transmaps everytime for me! For both eyebrows and pubes.

V4.1 now allows for transmapped eyebrows (though few textures currently make use of it) but the pubes are still a problem. Then again most of the V3 textures don't use transmaps either, which is more difficult to understand.

The situation seems more complicated with male figures. If there' s lots of other body hair, simply transmapping the eyebrows and pubes seems a little pointless, but its certainly worthwhile for less hairy types.

With my latest texture for V4.1 I used the blender Node, and a pubic hair mask, in Poser 6 as an option to add or remove pubic hair, as well as change color. With the texture I am working on now I am using the blender node for both the eyebrows and Pubic hair. Unfortunately if you use DAZ studio, I don't think there is an equivalent to the blender node ;-(

I personally like having both options in a texture package. One option for painted on hair, brows and pubes, and an option to use transmaps/mask.
