Given the lack of response from RDNA over the last few polls they've ad over there, and given that the combined Poser votes far outnumber hte total DS votes, I don't think that there's any cause for concern.

I think sales will have a much bigger impact than a forum poll :) If they were silly enough to stop supporting Poser so well, people would take their business elsewhere.

Speaking of polls, I wish our forum posts had a poll feature.

As for RDNA's poll, it sort of skewers the results to be able to only vote for one. I think there's a lot of users that use more then one application. (And it's especially true for figures, as I glance at the other polls)

Don't take it too serious please, a poll doesn't always reflect the way things are. I just noticed that the D/S users are making an effort to rally together and vote their, so I figured some Poser users might like to do the same.

I dunno what they use polls for, but perhaps they peddle the results to somebody, with the implication that said polls somehow reflect the preferences of the audience whom the content providers are targetting. however, said polls may be compromised by clever tricksters, or d00dz getting all their pals to vote one way, so I doubt anybody with any real- world experience would believe the results.

I don't think it's any secret that DAZ would be over the moon if DS overtook Poser as the app of choice for peeps and if that were to happen [and looking at the poll it doesn't look good for P7] then it would make sense to cater more for the top used app. and that would be to the detriment of Poser users ultimately!!

Obviously we're not talking in the immediate future but 2, 3 years from now??????

Of course polls can be rigged, always are, it's just another version of the buddy system!!!

I'm a Poser user since V1. I did not buy P7..this is the first upgrade I have not purchased right out of the blocks.
CL needs to get their act together or they will be losing it. The more that people start using DS, especially when the new versions of Poser aren't exactly the best releases, the less likely Poser will continue. DS is getting a lot of support,  a lot of plugins for it. sooner or later they will surpass Poser if they keep at it.

BTW, I do not use DS other than to export into Bryce. My poll vote goes to Poser

The poll got a mention in the DAZ forums, hence the sudden spurt in the number of votes for D|S.

The fact that the Poser options are separated, while the Vue/Bryce/Studio ones are not, does suggest that the poll is meant principally to find out which version of Poser people are using.   The wording leaves something to be desired:

*This week's poll is all about software... what are you rendering in, what is your favorite, what do you enjoy the most.... all that stuff.... so you tell us... what is your favorite rendering program.

*So they have three questions, with potentially different answers (I tend to render in Poser 7, but I prefer Vue), but you only get one vote...   And can there really be anyone who prefers Bryce for rendering?

I wanted a check off for Carrara.

Yes, I was struck by the fact that there was no Carrara option.   I think that that is meant to be captured by the final choices:  "Other - HighEnd" and "Other - LowEnd".   Into which category Carrara falls, however, I don't know.

Welp, until I upgrade to XP, I'm pretty much locked out of D|S' later editions...;)

I have 3 versions of Poser installed & D|S will never take over on my machine, for me it's just so much scrap code.

I use Daz Studio for small things once in awhile. There's nothing wrong with either program so I don't see how it's taking over anything? Why so much drama over it? It only renders & does nothing else and hardly animates. I don't see it as a threat to Poser and neither should anyone else. It's a small free program for beginners who don't have a lot of money to spend or maybe none at all, to get into 3D. I haven't upgraded D|S is a long time because it lacks animation tools. Until they get a few more bells & whistles I won't upgrade.

Daz Studio hasn't kept up with Poser at all since it's release they are years behind it. They don't add anything to make the users stick with the program. And I dont have hundreds of dollars to spend on plugins or shaders.

Both programs are good to have though.

DS is good for cartoon renders and high end renders, let's be honest it's a free program and has couple fault's, but every other comercial program has hicups.
I use vue, bryce, studo, poser 5, 6, 7 and carrara 3 and 5 pro, and those programs still have flaw's in them left from previous edition's, the big joke is for all it's superb capabilitie's C4D 10 was realesed with major flaw's that were in 7, 8, 9, and when you spend £500 to £850 or $850 to $1500 on a program that still caries a flaw in some option's.
I say good luck to DS as it's a pain to pose figures as use poser for that but after all for a free program DS is superb.
I dont mind DS having flaws as for a free program understandable, what get's me is the bloody comercial program's you buy that still have bloody bug's when realesed, so i dont care if DS takes over.
Maybe make the idiot's who program comercial program's take the bloody time to get them right.
And let's not have the crying for god's sake ya dont no wat ya talking about, jesus as was said by 1 bod at a software house we will realese a game with bug's to make money.
As the people who purchase are to stupid to boycot the program, at least lot's of people boycot vista for a change.
If people boycot just 1 major 3d program because of it's bug's it will make the other software houses take note, until then they will still realese faulty software for the poor smuck's who buy them.To beta test and send emails reporting bug's to be fixed.
So good luck to DS a free program but a superb free program even with some of it's fault's.

Considering DS is free I'm a little surprised by the poll result so far - the combined Poser vote is at around 50% with DS vote lagging behind at around 35%.

I would guess that while D/S may be attractive to new comers then it's the better software that eventually gets purchased and used - in this case Poser.

The only thing that's free about D/S is the equivalent to the pose room in Poser.  Everything else you have to buy.  Including magnets (DFormers in D/S) and a plugin to load morph targets.  Dynamic clothing is coming however...you get the viewer for free with ver2.0.  If you want to do any tweaking, you will have to spend $50 for a plugin and more if you want to create dynamic clothing.  If you add up the price of the plugins for the features that come standard w/Poser It's more than I paid for my P6 upgrade.  

One thing to keep in mind: DAZ has an out clause in their tellware.  D/S will only be free so long as content sales pay for it.

They're statistically invalid, and don't target the market at well.  They're making lots of assumptions about their market that can't be made.  Such as, those that shop there actually take the time to participate in polls, as well as those that go directly to Content Paradise to buy their content. 

I realyl doubt DS is taking over actually.

I don't think RDNA is going to support DAZ Studio users anyway, regardless of the poll. Their store has looked like a high-end department of Content Paradise for well over a year now and they offer better products for the G2 figures than CP does. I'll still vote anyway, even having MAT poses for DS would be an improvement.

Anyway, I'm not responsible for what others add to this thread, seems like some would like to blame me for everything going on around here, but that's way too much credit for me.

I use both.  As far as I can see that was an opinion pole. Creating art shouldn't be about the program you're using, it should be about the art, the idea, the inspiration, the vision,  the program is just a tool to get it into a form that can be appreciated by others.

Umm, I was kidding of course for those that took my words as war. 

I don't expect Studio to take over any time "soon" but I'm glad it's getting a bit more recognition.  As for the comment about it being "scrape code" I think that was uncalled for.  It's a viable posing app with plugin-ability with more & more scripts every month to expand and extend it's usefulness.  Poserite's depend on python scripts to extend and expand Poser's useability just the same!!   Folks that cops an attitude & snubs anyone that's not a 'Poserite' really needs to pull their heads out of their @$$es.  It's a program, a tool, that's all it is and in the big picture of life it's really quite a minuscule reason to give attitude.    I enjoy spending time working in Studio, I do not in Poser.  It's purely my choice.  If RDNA chooses to support Studio in the future that's for them to decide, if they do not then it's prospective sales lost to them for the seeming snobbery of it all!

unfortunatly, merchants want to know what your using so they will be able to determine if it is worth their time to make those special files for P4 (rsr), can they afford to drop P4 and 5 support and create only mc6 (material collection) file for use in P6 and 7, or take the time to create DS materials, or perhaps even create materials in other programs (if they can even do that).

Merchants want to know where the market is and some things just can't be determined by sales alone.

sure, poles are inaccurate, can be intentionaly skewed, but so are sales. sometimes you just need to get all the info and compare it as best you can.

I realize some will use the pole for statistical information that will lead to further development of products for sale at different sites as well as for further advances being made to programs themselves. I use both, I'm equally good/bad with both. From my standpoint, I don't care which they create materials for. My earlier post was an impulsive, from the gut reaction to a 'don't let DS users take over' line. An us against them attitude seemed to hit me wrong, or I took it to be an 'us against them' attitude. My apologies.

All the DAZ Studio users want is for RDNA to make sure their products work in Studio and hopefully include DS MATs. You're acting like they will drop Poser support and switch to D|S-only content, (which of course they won't), so according to you, it's time to rally the troops against DAZ Studio users. You are basically no different than the Lightwave and MAX users who put down Poser users just because they use Poser and not a high-end program. I don't criticize Poser, CP, or the G2 figures, and I am damn sick of having to listen to you on multiple forums bashing DAZ and their policies, prices, and quality. If you have the right to complain about them, I have the same right to complain about your rambling.

What's all of this talk about a pole, anyway?  Are you going to hit someone with a large wooden pole because they use D|S -- or alternately, because they use Poser?

Or does RDNA have a pole which they use to hold up the tent that they use for an office building?  Is that what's meant by the "RDNA pole"?

Perhaps we need to take a poll in order to find out about all of this..............which sort of a pole do you prefer?  A D|S pole, or a Poser pole?  And would it be less painful to get hit with a D|S pole, or with a Poser pole?

Personally, I would like to hit you with my Lightwave pole -- but unlike in the movies, light sabers just don't work all that well in real life.  The technology is not yet perfected.

Edit -- it might hurt some to get hit with the LW box.

The choice between D|S and Poser is like a choice between various flavors.  Everyone has different tastes.  In such a matter: to each his own, that's what I say........

DAZ is a fine company.  Poser wouldn't be what it is today without them having done a tremendous amount to popularize the program with their characters -- they've contributed a lot.

E-frontier is a fine company.  Poser wouldn't be what it is today with them having produced it.  So they've contributed a lot.

I will not attack the folks who make the items from which I have derived so many hours of pleasure.  ANY of the folks.

BTW - if anyone wants friends, then it's best not to go over to that potential friend's house and proceed to tell them what lousy taste in decorating the potential friend's wife has.  Such remarks tend to generate bad feelings -- and angry responses.

Studio needs Poser content makers without Poser modelers DS is dead in the water. It can't takeover anything so to me, the poll is a waste of time, but, gives folks something to do and talk about. Without Poser content there'd be no Daz Studio. To use DS you still need Poser. DS cant save Poser file extensions like .cr2 so it's pretty limited.

It has no exporting, only importing. I'm not sure why they made it that way but but it stinks for those that want to make their own stuff in Daz Studio for Poser & can't. I find it to be a let down that you can't export & the way it saves scenes is useless they make you save the scene in a data folder with the extra objs and maps so you can have a 1GB data folder with one saved scene. Thumbs down on that.

Not much effort went into Studio in my opinion. Im not bashing it or either one. I just wish Daz Studio would add more things to make it Poser friendly.

I love my DS!!!!!!  I have a 20 minute bus ride then a 35 minute train ride to get to work (then repeated backwards to get home) and I would DIE without my DS on the trip!!! 

p.s.  I voted "high end" as I have MAX8 and have rendered Poser characters in it but mainly use Carrara 5.1 Pro for Poser renders and IMHO it's pretty high end quality wise for me!!!

DS isn't actually free. The base is, but if you want to get any real usage, at least from what I've seen you have to own the plugins. I like DS but I also like Poser so not going to vote.

One point from a business stand point is do you really expect an individual that is using a free application to spend mad money buying content? More likely those people are cherry picking the poser community for freebies.
