I've not gotten e-bote either, but I thought it was because I accidently hit spam. I asked the moderator what to do but got no response. I hope I'm not banned this is the best thread! I still think you guys should post most of these out front. Andreas is fine, but between, the young Prince and his new job photographing every gorgeous women in the country he's got his hands full. This one is for BibbyBear...from Wales.  This rose is a small bit of the entire wild and rambling bush brought over to the USA many years ago when my grandparents grandparents came here. Whether the rose is Welsh or from some other part of Englnd I really do not know.

I do know this rose is difficult to tame...well, being Welsh.  This year, many trees and this bush had started leaves and buds then a sudden cold snap took it away. The rose bush has bloomed only perhaps 1/4th of usual..with blooms coming at odd times and not all at once as usual.  So, instead of the full radiant bush, here is one rose taken in less than ideal lighting.

This one is for Chrissy.

BibbyBear ( ) posted Thu, 14 June 2007 at 1:18 AM

Oh Tom.... this is beautiful and I accept it graciously.  It may not have blossomed as you would normally expect, but perhaps it has saved it's strength to concentrate on this one solitary rose in the hopes that you would photograph it to show the world it's glorious colours and undeniable beauty.
You have been a angel with your help and advice on my photography, especially with exposures (specifically spot metering - FANTASTIC tutorial BTW!! - go check it out folks!!) but your love and kindness means so much more.
Thank you again my dear friend - I shall treasure this old Welsh beauty forever.
Hugs

A lovely Wild beauty. I love the lighting, the shadows dancing with the petals give it much appeal.

[]This is NOT my photo. I got it as an e-mail. There are @ 20 cats, all painted in different ways from stars and stripes to plaid. Yes really. It costs @ $1500.00 to have done and lasts @ 3 months. It does say post anything.

That link isn't working any more either, but this one just did. If it stops, just Google, "painted cats". Bizarre stuff, though I am willing to bet some of those were postworked in later.

LOL at Joe's flying car. Great postwork on it. I'd like to see your Times Square shots.

Nice photos everyone. Tom's flower has such lovely sunset-like lighting, and your false color IR looks great Kort.  Nice abstract images, Awjay. You have a real flair for it, I see.

And LOL at Mamabobbijo. It's the thought that counts...  ;^P

Did you see?!? I have an avatar! rainbows sent one of her photos to Goha, who sized it right, and created a few of her own just for me, so I'll have spares, then they sent it to me and walked me through posting it.
I really had little to do with it but I'm still amazed I didn't manage to muck it all up somehow. Sorry I'm done crowing now.

James you take the most interesting shots of what may be the most uninteresting things. We never know what the big picture is because you seem to find the most interesting bits. That plant though, I can tell what the whole is and it's still cool.

Where's the picture? This one is not worth 10,000 words since threre is no image..just text to count the words.

A military photo journalist..I met one today.  This man goes all over the world and has learned to sleep on his personal time clock. There is not time enough to reset from jet lag from the Middle East to England to some other distant place.

These folks are few in number, yet it is a career field in the military. I am talking USA here.

The conversation started because one of his sons had a D200 Nikon in his hand.  I asked and the story was learned.  They are issued both D2 and D200.  He once used a Nikon F3, preferred for its ruggedness over later models.   They go into the "whatever zone" with an active camera, two extra bodies and a bag of lenses...and a laptop.

Images are sent directly to the USA from cam through the laptop via satellite dish.  They may then quickly be told to get a shot of this or that since all is GPS and their location is known to the ones receiving the shots.

As far as I know, in his branch of the military, there are 12 photo correspondents.  interesting to me.           TomDart.

Bungee Kid...the next pic is also relevant to the where of this all.  A fairly nearby small city was formed very quickly in the early 1940's, the intent to develop usable nuclear fuel for the atomic bomb.  This was a Secret City.   There is a festival each year there "sort of" based on the origination of the city but it is for fun and some historical stuff.

This kid was in harness to bungee cords above a trampoline. He was having a fine time, indeed.

This lady represents the many military folks who worked in red clay mud everywhere around the labs and the housing.  She is representing a WAC, in the USA that was Women's Army Corps.

She is lovely enough...wonder if the guys back then were so luck. Nice smile caught my eye.

As for the city today, all sorts of business is there and a national laboratory.  Most of the research and development is dedicated to all sorts of science but nuclear stuff is the root of it all. The medical world has benefited greatly from research done there as have nuclear physicists from all over the world in their studies.  There is a very mixed population with more Indians than one would expect and many Japanese.  Well, we know those folks are generally on the ball in computer sciences and other scientific  issues..the ones living there certainly are.

TomDart ( ) posted Sat, 16 June 2007 at 9:49 PM

The shot of the kid on the bungee thing...when I see it, I think TwoPynts posted it..  Why, simply because he has posted some fine kid shots.   Time for bed, thinking is not for me now.

Wow! Very cool stuff, thanks for the larger picture Jay, but it is fun to guess too. I love the new one has a sort of oil painted feel. I've been to the secret city. As a member of the last graduating class of WAC's ever. there is just the army now. Kort the skyline has a 3-d feel to it. Very neat. Looks like a cool place to be Marlene, in the summer anyway. I've been to NYC many times, I've never seen it so empty. Sounds like you had a very interesting conversation Tom.
