Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 05 9:36 pm)
Quote - Somewhere in your V4 pose files you should find a folder called "magnetize clothing" and inside that folder you will find a "magnetize to V4" file : select the clothing, click the file and your clothing should fit. Use the other, numbered files if you have more V4's in your scene.
I should have mentioned that I've tried the magnetize poses. My testing process for those is as follows:
The magnetize pose doesn't seem to do anything at all. :( (I'm using the un-numbered pose since I only have the single V4 in the scene.) I've also tried conforming the top before and after Helena, and morphing V4 before loading the top.
Thanks.

It's a common misconception (I thought it at first, too), but magnetizing the clothing does not give the clothing the same morphs as the underlying character. What it does is allow the clothing to work in a similar manner to the figure's morphform dials, which use magents as well as traditional paramerter dials to allow for more complicated mesh correction during posing (I think).
To give your clothing the same character morphs as your fgure, there are several options:
1: Use the inbuilt character morphs within the clothing, and set them to the same settings as your underlying figure - assuming your clothing has the character dials you need.
2: Use the cloth room to import the clothing obj and clothify it, moving from a zeroed, non-morphed version of the character into a zeroed, morphed version. Then (if you want to use that morphs again, you save out the new obj, then import it back into each body part of the original clothing item as a morph target, and THEN creating a full body morph for the whole thing so you can adjust the clothing using only one dial.
3: Purchase the morph magnets set from DAZ for V4, which basically does the same as step 2 above, but without requiring the cloth room to deform the clothing (apply the magnets to the clothing, create morph target for each body part, then create full body morph).
2 and 3 are time-consuming, but that's because it involves creating the MTs yourself. Although it sounds confusing, it' snot actually too tricky to do.

Thanks for the replies, and the link to the DAZ instructions. One question regarding this:
"...First parent the BODY of the clothing item to the BODY of the intended target figure, and then copy the pose from the figure to the clothing item...."
How does one "copy a pose?" Do they mean apply the same pose to the clothing (figure)?
I tried the magnetize with "Helena" using these instructions--same result, no fit. Genesis V4 works just fine however, so it must be something specific with Helena.
When I get (and have more time) I'll try some of jonthecelt's suggestions.
Thanks again.

I've made a "CopyMorphs" script that will copy morph dial settings from the conforming target figure (in this case V4) to the conforming clothes (in your case the bikini). The script assumes that the names of the morphs in the clothes match the names of the morphs in V4.
The script comes bundled with my V4 Warrior outfit in freestuff.
The script works on all figures, not only on V4.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
Quote - It might help too if you apply the morph and then apply the clothing AFTER. The Daz base clothing items should automatically fit if you are using a figure that is morphed using the V4 dials.
I've been getting a bit confused with the V4 figures/clothing myself. Some things work as noted in the quote above, some things don't. Some items can be manually dialed in using the main morphs under the clothing's BODY section, others can not.
The lack of consistancy is the difficult thing in all this, you have to go down a check list of options if they don't fit right on the first try! :)
One thing I've found with a number of pieces of V4 clothing (in Poser 7 at least, haven't tried P6orP5 lately) is that if the FBM dials under the BODY section don't work for a piece of clothing, the FBM dials for the individual sections usualy do work. It's a pain to have to adjust them all individually, but I've found this a fairly common problem.
Anyone have more insight on this?
if they dont work in the main body of the clothing then they have been set up to slave to V4's morphs. this is becoming more and more common as more merchants understand how this can be set up. Unfortunately it has taken a long time for merchants to figure out how to get around Poser's no crosstalk system, to allow this so there are still quite a few merchants who dont set up their morphs to work this way yet.
I discovered how to be more consistent after running into similar problems. (i.e. FBMs for V4 wouldn't work at the "body level")
It's hidden in the daz3d notes about conforming for V4
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/faq/0/-/?id=353
easiest way to make sure FBMs for all V4 clothing bind to the character (or, what I do...)
voila - all FBMs work (at least if they are supported), although it is annoying that you can adjust them at all, unless you go to each part individually and compound your morph values. but this works consistently for me.
hope this helps others..

I purchased the Deluxe V4 bundle when it was released and am just now trying to work with it all.
The problem I have is getting V4 clothing to fit V4 that's been morphed with a character morph (like Helena which also shipped with the bundle). I'm only talking about V4-specific clothing, like the bikini (DAZ product) that shipped with the bundle
Conforming before/after the morphing does nothing.
Is there something easy I'm overlooking or do I have to go parameter dial tweakin'? Everything I'm using is V4 or made for V4, so the morphs should all be available, I'd think...
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

ps. I'm using Poser 7.
