Subject: ALPHA option in Imaged_Map field of an Image Map node

Mason ( ) posted Fri, 22 June 2007 at 3:16 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 11:05 AM

Has anyone ever gotten the ALPHA option for the Image_Mapped field in an image map texure node to work? The manual says it will use the alpha channel of a texture to blend with whatever is in the background channel but I have tried PNGs, Tiff, TGA and PSD files with no success, in both true color and index color modes.

Thanks for any help.

Nope.  I usually just use a Blender node:

Thanks. Yes I already have a tutorial on this method but am seeing if I am wrong that the ALPHA mode simply doesn't work. I thought maybe it might work with gif or png with transparent color but that is a bust as well.

it doesn't work AFAIK. at least not with psd files, not with tiff files. forcing interns who don't know how to use the program to write the manual is a bad idea IMVHO. it ends up with circular definitions and unexplained features. unfortunately, the ones who do know how to use it find that their time is better spent elsewhere.
