Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 03 10:43 am)
Hi Nightmare. I had the same problem until i Split my runtimes into figures, so each figure has its own runtime. ALso I use this from HogSoft, makes life so easy, you will spend more time 'Posing' than looking for MATS etc.

Any more info tat you require then let me know
The base folder structure for a runtime folder is as follows: Runtime ---------libraries ------------------Character ------------------Face ------------------Hair ------------------Hand ------------------Material ------------------Pose ------------------Props ---------textures Poser 6 and 7 support sub-folders. So, for example, you could further break the Character folder down with several sub folders, e.g. Runtime ---------libraries ------------------Character ----------------------------Figures ----------------------------Base Clothing ----------------------------Historical Clothing ----------------------------Sci-Fi Clothing ------------------Face ------------------Hair ------------------Hand ------------------Material ------------------Pose ----------------------------Clothing MATs ----------------------------Eye MATs ----------------------------Hair MATs ----------------------------Poses - Animated ----------------------------Poses - Static ------------------Props ----------------------------Armour ----------------------------Firearms ----------------------------Headgear ----------------------------Melee Weapons ---------textures That should help you organise your runtime. Also, I suggest multiple runtimes.
Nightmage,
You can move library files to different subfolders that make more sense to you, as long as you remain within the same runtime. Because it is the same runtime, it will still point to that runtime's specific geometries folder (CR2, some HR2 and PP2) and that specific runtimes textures folder. Remember that CR2 can only be read in the figures library, PP2 in the props library and so on. If for instance you move a file with the CR2 extension to your props folder it will not even load into your library palette.
It's only when you start to move things from one runtime to another runtime that you will run into trouble. The CR2 (or PP2/HR2) will be looking for its OBJ file in this new runtime's geometries folder, unless you edit the CR2 to point to the new runtime, the same is true for texture files.
There are utilities (and Hogsoft's Correct Reference is one of them) that allow you to change from relative to absolute references within your files. But as it stands, most items default to using a relative path.
Yep, I use sub folders which are easily navigable using the small black triangle in top right of your library.
Whatever you do, don't rename or move any of the top level folders!
Others use multiple runtimes but on a persoanl level I found that unsatisfactory and much prefer sub folders!
Injustice will be avenged.

Thanks for the info all. Just knowing what folders are safe to move and rename helps a lot. I will have to check http://www.hogsoft.com when I get home, for some reason it is blocked from my work location.
I'm with thefixer on this one. I have one colossal Runtime with lots of sub folders. Each to their own, though.

Here is my method of getting organized."It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi

Hi folks,
I hope someone can help me out here. I use poser 6 still and my runtime is out of control. I’m spending all my time trying to find this mat pose, or that prop, or this figure, buried in all kinds of non descriptive names. I end up with dang little time for making the art.
I would like to be able to move the folders around to make things easer to find but I’m not sure what can be moved around safely. Is there a utility that lets you safely organize your runtime or is there a guide to what folders can safely be moved?
Thanks for any help.
